If you watched Nintendo's conference yesterday, you quickly realized something along the lines of they won't. Nintendo has 4 great 1st Party games coming out this year (Star Fox, Kid Icarus, Mario, Mario Kart.) and Luigi's Mansion 2 on the way. That alone is an insane line up. They also have 2 Resident Evil games, Tekken, atleast 1 Metal Gear Solid game and Animal Crossing, Paper Mario and Smash Bros. all on their way.
I could see them bundling in a year or so, a price drop probably won't occur for 2-3 years. Look at Nintendo's price drop history.
If, and that's a big IF they feel pressure approaching PS Vita launch, maybe they'll cut $20, maybe $30 off the price. The DS had a price drop roughly 1 year after release in preparation for the first console revision
But I think its more likely they will stay at $249, maybe bundle like Pilotwings with it, but more than likely just introduce Pink and Red colors this fall and let all the awesome games they are releasing carry them through the holidays where I expect its sales to pick up very good.
Maybe a $20-$50 price drop in Spring 2012, but that's the earliest I'd expect it.
Why is everyone clamoring for a price drop like it's going to happen anytime soon? The system came out hardly more than a month ago in the US and Europe, and not much more in Japan. There won't be a price drop for a good long while, especially with all the games they showed off yesterday.
At first after hearing the price of the PSVita i thought Nintendo were ripping people off but not anymore. Nintendo is selling the 3DS like a normal company earning money and now has been revealed that Sony is using the same method they used with the PS3; they will sell each unit at a loss and expect to earn something after 3 years.Selling like Sony is a risk and not many companies can afford to do so.If, and that's a big IF they feel pressure approaching PS Vita launch, maybe they'll cut $20, maybe $30 off the price.
