I know they aren't allowed to work on the Wii, but can RARE make games for the DS? Deep down, I have hope for a GoldenEye DS, but I'm unsure whether or not it's possible.JAB991
Yes, RARE can make games for the DS, as a few have stated above me, they recently remade Diddy Kong Racing.
Unfortunately, there is about a 0% chance of GoldenEye 007 ever coming to the DS. The whole situation is a copyright nightmare, with EA owning the rights to James Bond and Microsoft owning rare and all that crap.
I share your pain though. GoldenEye 007 was one of my favorite games of all time and it would be amazing redone on the DS. In fact, I bought the DS at launch under the assumption that GoldenEye would eventually be released. There was a game in development titled "GoldenEye" at the time, but it turned out to be Rogue Agent :(.
At the time I wasn't aware of all the copyright issues, I just assumed it would be remade eventually because it seems like an obvious idea that would rake in tons of cash.
Yes they can, they made Diddy Kong Racing DS. AND there is rumor floating around that Donkey Kong 64 may make it's way to the DS.Gaming_Retro
I would absolutely love Donkey Kong 64 on the DS. I'd buy it in an instant.
Can RARE make DS games?JAB991
well of course they can make DS games, they were able to make pretty good games for the snes werent they? so I'm sure they're able to pull of a good ds game
speaking as a gamer who is itching to try out Goldeneye 007 and see what all the fuss was about
see "diddy kong racing DS"
however goldereye is a copyright nightmare right now, don't get your hopes up
They can make anything they want for the DS because it doesn't hurt Microsoft (because they do not have a handheld to compete with) and only increases Microsoft's profits.Jaysonguy
Actually they kind of do have a handheld to compete with the DS and PSP now. The zune now plays XNA games. Not that the amount of zunes sold even comes close to the PSP or DS, but yeah MS does kind of have a handheld now. Also with them just buying Danger and putting XNA on the Zune you can bet that the next Zune iteration has a good chance of being more of a gaming/all in one machine like the psp but with an actual phone.

They are owned by Microsoft and Nitendo acted like a **** and wouldnt let them make a Goldeneye for both the Wii and the 360. And even thought they own no rights to goldeneye Rare didnt want to disrespect Nintendo so they cancelled it.
Because of this Microsoft will never allow a Goldeneye on a Nintendo console and Nintendo can only blame themselves.
But I'm confused here, if Microsoft bought Rare and can't do any conole work with Nintendo, how do they get away with making DS games?nintendoboy16
Because MIcrosoft gives creative freedom to their developers. IF they want to amke something and it doesnt have conflicting intrests with Microsoft then they are allowed to amke it. They were making a new goldeneye and Microsoft even allowed them to make a Wii version but Nintnedo wanted it exclusive so now the Goldeneye franchise is death.

The whole issue has little to do with Nintendo, I'd imagine that Nintendo's publishing rights might even have expired at this point. MS is in a slightly better position to bring the game out *but not by much). It depends more on who actually owns the Bond license at this time (I think is is Activision these days).
Also, MS is in a position to make games for the Wii if Nintendo gave them dev kits, but given how conflicting that would be in both their interests the chances of that happening is effectively zero.
Also, not to flame, but Goldeneye has aged...a lot. It really isn't worth all the fuss to bring it out.

So you're AGAINST companies following good business practices?
Well it takes all kinds I guess.
I prefer companies to be responsible.
