yea you can, after you beat the elite four in diamond/pearl, there is a feature called pal park (kindof like safari zone) where you can transfer up to 6 pokemon a day from any GBA pokemon game.
No, you don't need 2 DS's or any cables, you just need a DS with Diamond on Slot 1 and with the GBA pokemon game on the slot 2, then when you beat the elite four, go to Pal Park and transfer 6 pokemon for you to capture, I hear it isn't hard to capture them, but it's harder to find them, Pal Park is just like the Safari Zone,
ye, u can upload all gba pokemon games exempt mystery dungion, after u beat the elite four, and then u catch them in pal park, they'y have their current level, attacks, items, ect....

Not completely sure, but read somewhere that its a one-way deal. That's a major drawback if you want to continue to play with specific pokies on the eariler version.

You CANNOT transfer back to the gba version once its been transfered to the ds. Also the only requirement you need on the gab version to transfer to the ds version is to have more than one pokemon since you can only transfer pokemon from your box
