When I bought mine, I didn't charge it as the first thing. I turned it on and started playing. Will that create some problems later on? Because I'm not noticing any charging or power problems with mine yet.

I highly doubt that would case problems, but if it does, that would be insanely pathetic.

I haven't had any problems with it at all. I'm disappointed with the battery life though, but I don't think that has anything to do with it.

I must admit that I was also somewhat displeased, however it is quite understandable since the brighter the screen, the more life it uses. The second lowest setting is the equivalent of the original Nintendo DS.

Playing before charging it for a good 12 hours can effect the charge the battery can hold. I get a good 12 hours of life out of mine before having to recharge. If your not getting a good 12 hours out of yours maybe your one of the ones who didnt do the initial 12 hour charge.

Pretty much everything that comes with a rechargable battery these days requires a good first charge. When I bought a new mobile phone they made a point of telling me in the store.

Also it takes a few discharge recharge cycles for the battery to reach its max capacity.

DSOwner, you are clearly lying, for no Nintendo handheld that is chargeable has ever been capable of over twelve hours of battery, unless you turned the light off on the original Nintendo DS. The Lite's screen cannot be turned off.

Wait , you're telling me that the DS lite has a maximumlife of 12 hours even with full charge ? I don't think so . I've had my DS lite for about 4 months now . And with my brightness at Lvl2 pretty much all the time , I'm sure that my DS lasts for more than 12 hours before I have to charge it again .

My DS Lite hasamazing battery life o__o At least 10 hours on second highest brightness, and that's probably a low estimate. I should time it next time I charge.

Anyways, I also charged it before I played it, because it conditions the battery.

I don't know, but the attendant told me to fully charge it before playing, then play, use all the power before recharging again, then everything good...I did that, better doing it than being sorry after some time.

It's in the manual guys, read it. You should fully charge it before turning it on. The wait itself may be torture but worth it in the long run.

It might cause minor charging problems, but the difference would be like five minutes, so don't worry about it.

Hey, sorry for bumping an old topic, but I found it while googling for "First NDS Lite charge". I got a question. I just bought a new DS Lite myself. What do you suggest for the very first charge? How long should I charge it? The manual says 3 hours only. Would it affect (in a positive way) if I charged it more, like 10-12 hours? Thanks for any helpful comment, I really appreciate it !

Just charge it until the light that says it is charging turns off.
