I think ima go with Cyndaquil, I always choose water for my starter and I hate grass types so Cyndaquil it is.
I think the best starter was the latest 3, piplup chimchar and the other grass one I cant even remember its name LOL...
Had to pick Piplup because penguins pwn faces.... obv...
I'll probably go with Chikorita or Totodile. I have chosen Cyndaquil in the past, but Chikorita was always my favorite. Totodile became a favorite...meh, I want Charmander!
Totodile for sure! I forget, was there a way to get the original starters (from Red and Blue) in the original Silver and Gold?
Cyndaquil, it was the pokemon I got way back in the day when I played Crystal. Plus, Typhlosion is one of my all-time favorite pokemon.
Cyndaquil, these are the second best starters. (red and blue being the best) I think later on they got worse. I ussually pick a fire starter, I like them the most, ruby made that a little harder, and then diamond made that a easier again to go fire but I just hate how fire doesnt get anything new and cool just a flaming fire fighting monkey.
I like Chikorita, just cuz of the name. :P In terms of attack and evolution, I'll stick with Cyndaquil. Nothing will ever be as awesome as Charizard, Venusaur and Blastoise though. :)WOW! Nobody seems to be chikorita fans! (Mind you, HE ISNT THE BEST OUT OF THE 3)

I would say Totodile. Who wouldn't like a little Crocodile/Alligator based pokemon who runs around and causes mayhem.

Oh, not to mention that not only does Water beat fire, but he can learn and use Ice moves which beats Plant or Leaf type pokemon. Cyndaquil would be my close second choice, but i believe Totodile edges him out. Chikorita...is a moron
Cyndaquil, because Quilava is my favorite Pokemon. Though I'm debating whether I should evolve it into Typhlosion so it can learn Blast Burn. I don't like Totodile because Feraligatr and Croconaw are freaking ugly, and I didn't pick Chikorita because Grass is boring.
Well there's a way you can get one of them in the game. I think after you beat Trainer Red, you can go to Oak's office and you'd be able to choose one of the original starter pokemon. The rest, I'm guessing will have to be through trades. as for the TC question, i would choose Totodilesquirtle Charmander Bulbasaur are the best 3 pokemon . i want them all in soul silver . but how?

EDIT: Made a mistake. For the Kanto starting Pokemon, once you get all 16 badges, you can then go to Oak's office and pick one. After beating Red, you can then talk to someone in the Saffron Building who offers you one of the Hoenn starter Pokemon.
I've started with Totodile in Gold, and I'm gonna play with Totodile in HeartGold! :D
Cyndaquil is awesome, but I already trained one in Platinum. And I dont want my game to be easier than it already is.
I used to like Chikorita as a kid, way more than Totodile and Cyndaquil, but when I tried it in Crystal I found out Johto was very anti-grass. :/
...and I don't like Chikorita's final evolution...
Totodile.
It's a f***ing alligator.
 I don't know why I found this so funny but I did, so that is so going in my sig. :P If you played the original G/S, I take it you picked it then too, like me? Of course. lol All my other friends picked Cyndaquil. :(Cyndaquil I usually choose Fire Types. But in Gold, Silver, and Crystal they made it easier for Fire Types since the first two bosses were easier with Cyndaquil so I might choose Chikorita or Totodile.

Turtwig! He was my favorite start from D/P/P.
Going to go with Totodile in Soul Silver. I am still new to Pokemon so I do not know which one is better or which one will become the best. Despite the fact that water is one of my least favorite types Totodile cracks me up in the cartoon. Always standing around staring at nothing with his mouth hanging open. Hah!

In Gold, Silver, and Crystal. Chikorita (The game is harder since Grass is only strong in one Gym in Johto) Cyndaquil (The game is easy since he is good with most of the Gyms in Johto) and Totodile (The game might be easier I'm not sure I never used Totodile) But I think I will choose Chikorita since The game is harder with Chikorita.I kinda like Cyndaquil the most but it is overused now. It's like that is everyone's pick for a 2nd gen starter, but oh well. Sometimes I opt out of that and pick Chikorita but I don't know what I will choose when I get Soul Silver.
[QUOTE="sman3579"]How far do you have to go into the game if you want to trade between diamond/pearl/platinum and heartgold/soulsilver? It's usually after you've gotten the pokedex and are heading for the first gym.I wish I could pick all 3 of them.
