Chrom and Avatar kind of ruin permadeath in fire-emblem (at least for me)

Anyone else feel the same? The way I play is with permament death. And if a character dies... to bad! I can't reset, I have to push forward! :c Except that if its Chrome and Avatar who die I'm FORCED to reset. So it kind of ruins it. For instant, Lissa died... I was heart torn. Then Chrom died. Oh. I get her back!! Kind of undermining her death though :(

Perhaps I'm just playing it wrong though xD I like the roleplayability of a character dying forever. Of course, I'm playing on hard, new to fire emblem series and I bet I'll have to restart the entire game due to my lost of character. But I don't even care :P

If Chrom or the Avatar died the whole story would be irrelevant. I don't know what you want from the game.

No no, my point is that IF they die, I'm forced to reset anyway, so therefore my other characters who died would be bought back to life. To elaborate: I lost Lissa in one of the battles. Very sad. But then Chrom died, and so I'm forced to reset and Lissa lives. Does that make sense? Its not that I'm annoyed that Chrom and Avatar lived, but that Lissa did too as a result. lol.

I guess one thing they could have done would be to rewind back one turn or so if Chrom or the Avatar dies, so you could change what happened and still continue on. To be honest though, I don't think permadeath is a big factor in Fire Emblem to anyone but newcomers, especially considering that you can pair up squishies with your tanky characters added on to the fact the game is easier, and you can train your units as much as you want.

If you really want to be so hard on yourself, you could force yourself to start a new game from scratch any time either Chrom or your avatar dies....

Eh, I guess it might be cool for hardcore purists if it gave you the option to continue the game with all the deaths intact... but then it would still have you defeat enemies that are supposed to be dead, so...

Perma-death is so yesterday. I'm glad they put in the option to change that, and I find the game much more enjoyable with a system more like Disgaea, where I get a chance to see every character grow to their full potential in battle as opposed to letting them die and forgetting about them as I move forward.

Well, I don't propose that ALL unit's should die (enemies and all). The game already makes certain characters, who are important to the story, "retreat". I wonder if they could have simply made it that if Chrom or Avatar die, THEY simply retreat, and you can continue to use them anyway. (As it would make no sense story-wise if you couldn't) However, this causes the problem of players who risk their lives specifically, because they can't lose *them*. Due to how easy it would be to exploit, I'm not proposing such a change be made. It's just wishful thinking. Hehe.

You can play the game however you like. I'm glad they put the casual mode in the game to provide options to people like you. Personally though, unless you play on Lunatic, Fire Emblem is pretty pointless without permanent death. It would be too easy. Permanent death is still essential even if you reset to save a character. If you go by that method, then you lose as soon as you lose the character you don't wanna die. Whereas, on the other hand, on casual, you don't lose until either chrom and the avatar died. So you can lose almost your entire army but still win. Therefore, if you play casual and not lunatic, its pretty pointless if you ask me. Each to his own though.

Hey guys, I have two really weak characters in my party, Donnel and Virion. All my other units are level 10+ but they are still stuck on level 2. How do I go about training them up?

I've played them all (US releases) and it just seems archaic to me because I never let any of my party die, and it's just frustrating and time wasting to play for half an hour or more to lose someone on a blind-sided critical hit, or an unforseen enemy spawn and move before I can pull back a weak character who gets killed, then having to soft reset.

About leveling super weak characters like Donnel, just have other characters surround an archer on three sides and have them not attack while letting the weak character hit him every turn, rinse and repeat until they're strong enough to survive an enemy attack. Surround non-archer enemies for training weak archers.

Right now I'm playing by scum saving anyway. Once I get the hang of the game I'll do a no reset run through.

I suppose if you have to restart a mission after failing it, you could just have your characters who died in the last attempt rush out and get killed again. This isn't something new to Awakening, by the way. Every Fire Emblem game gives you a game over if a major protagonist dies in battle.
