I think the unlockable demos for VC games included in SSBB are another nice piece of lame Nintendo marketing, here's why:

They're supposed to encourage us to buy the game they demonstrate, but they obtain the opposite result, due to the absurd time limit:

You can try Donkey Kong for 30 seconds, Zelda for 1 and 1/2 minute, F-Zero for 40 seconds, Starfox 64/Lylat Wars for two minutes and so on... How am I supposed to understand what I'm doing with so little time? Let alone decide if I like the game and I want to spend $5 and up for it? Here's an alternative way to make these demos:

Donkey Kong: full first stage available for play
F-Zero: a single full lap on the Mute City circuit
Starfox 64: full Corneria level+boss
Super Mario Bros: full first level
Super Metroid: 5 minutes time limit
Zelda: 10 minutes time limit, free roaming but locked dungeons and caves

and so on... at the end of each demo put an ad telling us to connect to Wii shop channel to get the full limitless version. Not too hard.

Maybe I'm nitpicking, but I think Nintendo should know better than this, and if they don't they should learn from PC demos, which always give at least on full level to play.

Thoughts?

I already own all of those demos except for The Legend of Zelda which I already have on the Zelda Collectors Edition for the Gamecube, Donkey Kong and F-Zero because F-Zero X for the N64 is better than that version. I agree the demos are too short but they're all great games so go ahead and download them if you haven't yet.

They're a demo

They give the user a quick feeling of what the controls are like.

As for the rest of the game you either want it or you don't.

They're handouts from Nintendo, they let you see if you want to play a game that "handles" like that and then the rest is up to you.

Yeah, with the game space they wasted on crap like this, they could have brought back Roy, Mewtwo and Dr. Mario instead.

They kind of feel like a waste to me. I would rather have a video for most characters that shows their history, with footage from past games.

Sounds like you played these games before. At least demos are there, rather than not being there. I own most of these games.

Why would they bring those back? Dr. Mario was just a clone, Roy was only in SSBM as an ad, and Mewtwo would make too many Pokemon reps. Plus, I doubt the amount of space needed to supply demos is enough for even one full character.

All you new users who joined GS because of Brawl need to stop talking out of your a**es. Just because you made up some random statement doesn't mean it's true.

F-Zero: a single full lap on the Mute City circuit i can do a lap with the time they give
Super Mario Bros: full first level if you talk about super mario world, i can do 2½ stages with the time they give

I agre. The kinds of limits they put on the games are completely inadequate for making any mind of decision.

Didn't you say that those demos sucked, some time ago?

On topic: I agree with you, they should have let you see more of each game. I can't really decide if buying those game or not, after playing only some minutes of the game.

I don't like them much but they serve the purpose.

Like in Donkey Kong in order to finish the level you need to do a flawless speed run.

They do everything a demo is supposed to do. They show you how the controls are and how the game plays, past that it's up to the user to see if they're interested in the subject matter.

You can't fault them because they work.

To be honest, I don't care much because I've played most of those game's already. The only one that I never played before was Kid Icarus and playing it was once for 40 odd seconds was enough to make me not really want to buy it.

Actually, I wouldn't even call them demos or trial versions, they're more like playable teaser trailers and they don't serve the purpose at all: I know people that watched the engaging Starfox64 intro (with the 2 minutes demo timer silently ticking), and as the level was about to start they got the time up message, they thought the demo was all there and never loaded it again. There, one less potential VC customer.

I don't really feel like I have to beg anyone for those demos: it's not like they're giving us the full game as an extra like Konami did with Metal Gear 1&2 in MGS3 Subsistance, no: I'm supposed to pay a relatively high price for the full version, so at least let me play a level of it.

Naturally, Nintendo won't give us more than a minute or two with a game for free, even if it means driving some potential shop channel customers away. In-depth, extensive test drives of games apparently isn't the point of these demos. I like to think they're just a bonus for the game, to include a taste [or less] of where the Nintendo franchises that culminated in and contributed to Brawl started out, even though I'm sure that couldn't be farther from the truth.

They are alright but i bet they took tons of Disc Space And the worst parts is you wait longer for the game to start and finish then you do playing it!

Yea, I pretty much had downloaded most of those games before I bought brawl.

I tryed Super Metroid on Brawl and it accessed my saved file already on my Wii from the VC before.

I completely agree with everything you've said. Nintendo really likes to jerk it's customers around. Thanks for the completely useless unlockable content...

I know, it's so trajic. The idea was stupid to begin with, but it doesn't help that they did such a terrible job. Playing F Zero for forty seconds doesn't make me want to buy it. At all.

I agree that it would have been better if the demos were laid-out the way you suggested, but they are only simple demos.

the demos were so stupid i have no idea y they included them

30 sec demo? its more likely to make me get frustrated and NOT buy the game instead gettingof excited and buying it
