Component Cable, PLEASE help!

I just bought a component Cable, and I plugged it in and nothing happened. I changed it to Component 1/2 on the channels, and there was no visuals or audio. I heard you have to switch it to hDTV mode, but how am I suppoed to do that when nothing is showing up on the screen when I used my component cable?Someone Help me PLEASE!

switching mode on the wii is just to 480p, but even if its not switched the video should come up. are u sure u plugged in the cables correctly? you might have switched the red video/red audio or something.
