What exactly do component cables have to offer? I see them at the stores all the time and I'm curious if you need a sort of television to make them work. Are there any other good accessories coming out for the Wii? I have only my Wii and two controllers with nunchucks...any help will be appreciated!!

Component cables letsyour Wii output in its full 480p widescreen resolution. Obviously, to use these features (progressive scan and widescreen), you'll need a TV that not only has Component inputs, but can display in progressive scan and widescreen (either an EDTV or HDTV).

Yeah, 1080i HDTVs can handle p-scan at the 480 vertical resolution.

Component cables have nothing to do with widescreen.  You can display widescreen even through the composite cables that come with the Wii.  Component cables allow you to output in progressive scan (480p in the Wii's case) and make the picture look sharper and brighter.  This is because the video gets separated into three different categories since it is sent through three different cables.

You can get component cables as long as your TV supports component cables.  The TV should have Red, Blue and Green inputs (along with white and another red for the audio).  Your TV does not need to support progressive scan or widescreen in order to use the component cables.  As long as you have the inputs you can get them.  Progressive scan is better because it outputs the image as one whole image instead of every other line like interlace (Wikipedia to find out the exact difference).  If you TV supports progressive scan and the 4:3 aspect ratio (a "square") you can still use progressive scan, but would have the Wii set to 4:3 not widescreen.

ive got component cables and i think it improves the picture well, but it makes my screen very dark and i have to adjust the brighness and everything, even then it is not bright enough so it is hard to play games like red steel where there are dark levels.

is anyone else having this problem?
