Sorry to lie. JK

I want the attention of all the HD TV owners out there who also own Wiis.

I plan on buying a new HDTV within the next month or so. I've narrowed my search down to two TVS, a Insignia 27" that does 720p for $549.99 and a Olevia 27" that does 1080p for $549.99 with a $100 rebate.

I am wondering if there is a huge difference between Wii games in SD, and in HD.

I have seen differences in Red Steel, and in Twilight Princess.

Now I know the difference isn't going to be great but mind you I'm coming from a 15" SDTV from 2000 that my parents gave me when I was a kid.

So does the HD make your Wii games looking better than SDTV alot? Is it a shock and awe type of thing or just a whimper?

It wouldn'tmake it better. It may even look worse in some cases.

yes, the wii supports 480p, and ive been useing my 27" Sharp along with it, and it is a amazing difference compared to SD. I personally was amazed, and i HIGHLY recommend if u have the cash to upgrade. the colors on HD compared to SD are dramatic in themselves.

edit: want to make it clear the difference may not be coming from the 480p, im not sure, it may just be the LCDs are just much better TVs.

Here's a comparison:

Judging by these pictures, I'd say that it's definitely worth it to get the component cables if you own an HDTV. But it's not worth it to get an HDTV, just to be able to play Wii games in 480p.

There should be a freaking sticky in this forum saying "480p IS NOT HD FFS", since it looks like it would be needed.

i edited my post now, litchie, i think my post was confusing you, i was meaning just the tv quality alone makes the difference, not the 480i to 480p upgrade.

But 480p is Enhanced Definition thus giving it a higher definition than regular SDTV by a few hairs right? EDTV is much better than SDTV I think. Look, I just want to know if people who OWN Wiis think theres look better in on a HD TV.

There isn't a huge difference between standard definition (480i) and progressive scan (480p), not in the same way that there's a difference between standard definition and high definition. But yes, there's a difference, and yes, it's a nice bonus. I've currently got component cables for all three systems I have hooked up to my TVs, and the games that support it look nice. It's quite obvious that you don't reap major benefits until you're looking at 720p at least, though, which the Wii doesn't support. If you've got a 360 or PS3, it's worth getting a HDTV for those systems. But don't upgrade your TV for the Wii. It's not all that dramatic a difference, really.

I'm getting a HDTV because I feel I might as well because they are better products. I could get a 40" SDTV for the same price as the 27" HDTVS I'm looking at but I want the better product. If I choose to buy a Xbox 360 in the future I don't want to pay more for something I'll never use, and that goes for alot of TV related products today. I might as well buy HD.

I think the EDTV difference in Wii games between SDTV Wii games is noticable so far. I can notice it in Xbox games from those that did 480p as well. It isn't as big as a difference as 480p or 480i to 720p or 1080p but I think it is a upgrade none the less.
