meimnobody, I agree with EVERYTHING that you say. However, name just ONE INSTANCE where a pirate would hypothetically enter the business model. It doesn't matter that they can spend the money, it's that they don't spend the money, ever, under any circumstance. Yes, morally wrong, but businesses KNOW that they won't get $$$ from pirates, yet they still waste funds on DRM and AACS. The adding DRM and AACS is the part that adds to the price for the end-user.

Actually part of the price is due to losses taking on other products to recoup from piracy/shoplifting. I think if they were to chop off some body parts of pirates/shoplifters that would be an effective deterent. It's worked in the past. Criminals often commit crimes because they don't think of the punishement, think they can handle incarceration (often a lot of prisoners admit they will commit crimes once they get out to get back into the prison system since it is a home to them), think they won't get caught. Once you start removing body parts and make it publicy known as well as it coming quickly after being sentenced a lot of criminals no longer commit that crime.

I totally agree. I have read before that countries that have strict punishments for shoplifters don't have a lot of shoplifting. :) Piracy is never justified, and shouldn't be tolerated.
