Anyone know the reason why? Links to websites that have gone into it would be nice.

We already knew about this, I had no problem playing Gameboy colour games on my GBA stretched or unstretched. At least this is stretching them in every direction, unlike the GBA which basically just stretched things sideways.bobbetybobYeah, I don't think that will be a problem for me either.
The DSi XL is the same resolution as every other DS model, so the image isn't being stretched, it's just larger. The 3DS screen is actually a higher resolution, so the image has to be distorted in some fashion to make it "fit".dzimmThats exactly whats happening. Think of it like this.
[x][o][x]
[o][x][o]
[x][o][x]
Just say for example that those rectangles are the DS screens pixels. 3x3 resolution and the image showing is an 'X'.
[x][o][o][x]
[o][x][x][o]
[o][x][x][o]
[x][o][o][x]
Again, just for example lets say the 3DS has a 4x4 resoution screen. It still has to show that 'X' that the DS screen displayed, but it has to scale it differently. So it still shows the 'X' image, but in a different fashion because its being displayed on a screen that is wasn't designed for and has different resolution. Now the image is a bit distorted and doesn't look like an 'X' as much as it did on the DS screen.
In the basic sense of it, thats how it works.
Seems like Joystiq was over reacting. Seriously, they are advising against buying a 3D in general because of this issue
Its no big deal. Plenty of people don't mind playing GCN and Wii games on stretch HDTV wide screens, thus making the image not as satisfying even with component cables. People don't mind playing PS1/PS2 games on their PS3s, or Xbox Originals on 360s. And PC has had this issue for years with some software.
I don't care about black bars, or stretched images. The game plays the same to my knowledge. Thats what is important
I really don't know if this is sure or not. According to users in youtube they look more vibrant while others are saying the opposite.
Not a prob for me AT ALL. I agree with above, joystiqs makin a stink about nothin, they are just looking for any small thing they can to say bad about it. I'd bet 95% of owners will be indifferent to this "crappy playback" cuz in truth it aint that crappy anyway. Besides Im not buying a 3ds to play ds games anyway, personally I'm getting it for the 3d ones.
WAIWAIWAIWAIWAIWAIWAIWAIWAIWAIT. I JUST REALIZED IT. what did they say about the PSPGo? what will they say about the NGP? "better no BC than almost insignificantly worse BC caused by the advance of technology"?BrunoBRSThe NGP has exactly 4x the resolution of the PSP so backwards compatibility will be easy. It could still show in its native resolution.
i grew up playing on super game boy (the SNES version of the game boy player), i could care less about something like that.BrunoBRSSame here. You know if you hold the 2 shoulder buttons, you can access a secret menu for the Super Game Boy. You can change colors and all sorts of stuff.@dzimm and RiarAh, should've thought about res being higher. I didn't think of that at all. That makes sense but it seems almost unnoticable from the video. It wont bother me because like Bruno, I grew up on Super Game Boy and that didnt bother me. I'm still keeping my DS though due to some of the game info being linked to that system.
Thats because the sound quality on the DS games IS worse then on the 3DS wish is fully improved on all levels.Yea, I noticed it too. It doesn't piss me off, but it's still annoying. Also, I think the sound quality is slightly worse, but it might just be me.

Any one knows how to use the full screen option on 3DS? Are playing Kingdom Hearts now on 3DS, and the small screen option is too small. The normal option is ok, but a bit fuzzy, still it does not fill the whole screen? Anyone knows if its possible?arnez88From what I've read, I believe you hold start and select when starting the game.
