I acctually never played ANY Metriod games. The only one I own now is the DS one, and I already have 3 pre-ordered. Make me happy Nintendo!
This topic is locked from further discussion.
Gamers are going to think that I'm wierd, but I'm a hardcore Nintendo but I can't get into most of the Zelda games and any of the Metroid games.
I found Super Metroid tedious and repetitive, Prime 1 got me nowhere with its awfully annoying respawning enemies and I always got lost, stuck or frustrated. Prime 2 I only played the demo of, I found it alright, but it wasn't anything I wanted to buy. Hunters I bought for the wi-Fi but I found the SP too linear and, once again, tedious and the multiplayer was just a mess for me. The controls just don't accomodate for frantic play and it's hard to keep track of everything you're doing in a first-person gameon such a small screen.
And yet, I'm somehow compelled to MP3. The visuals are nice, the action looks more intense and the controls are something I just HAVE to play. I know this game is for the fans, but they're also trying to appeal to newcomers of the franchise. Hopefully they've cut down on the respawning enemies and reptitive backtracking.
MP3 will be my first metroid game ever. Anyone recommend me to buy any of the others?(since they should be cheap by now)cheesenator
I played through the first and played a little of the second, and I liked the 1st one alot more, even with the back-tracking
Anyone who didn't play those 2 titles, owes it to themselves to play through them, in order to get the most out of Corruption.. kingsy_the_one
See I think it's the exact opposite. The Prime series didn't go the way Nintendo wanted so much in fact that they tried to veer as far as possible when making Metroid for the Wii. Why would I want to play the ones that Nintendo didn't like the direction then go in a completely new direction for the Wii version?

The first two games in the Prime series are both brilliant IMO. Where did you get the idea that Retro are trying to make corruption as different as possible from them? I've only heard Retro mention adjusting the difficulty and making the back-tracking make more sense (as it did in Prime 1). The only major change is the controls but that was to be expected on the Wii. Have you played either of them? If not I strongly suggest you do, and if you have and didn't enjoy them I strongly suggest you don't buy Corruption because it's not going be any where near as different as you seem to think. The only criticism of Echoes I've heard from Nintendo is that it didn't quite introduce enough new elements to keep it feeling as fresh as Prime 1.

Seriously, are you making this up as you go? What you just said is 100% not true.
Not trying to be rude, it's just I think you may have grossly misconstrued something here.
Both Metroid Prime games were absolutely incredible. Both have won numerous awards including multiple GotYs. Metroid Prime even got GotY right here on Gamespot.
I can't believe so many people haven't played these games. They are absolutely amazing and some of the best games of last generation. I'm just hoping you guys don't think Metroid is a run and gun FPS. It's an adventure game in first person not an FPS.

Wow, you have no idea what you're talking about. The first two prime games were some of the best games of all time and IMO the first game was the greatest game of last generation. Retro was a bit dissapointed in the second one since it didn't surpass the first or sell well. But it was still a kickass game. MP3 is going to be just like the first two primes and I hope it is.
Oh, and I hope Metroid never has online multiplayer. You guys don't understand the metroid series. It's not a shooter!
Later tonight, I'm going to start a topic on this board and try and show everyone why I thought the series was as good as it was. Hopefully, more of the folks here that didn't like them will have a change of heart.
Just, for right now, consider this: They are both huge games with massive, expansive worlds. You're bound to get at least 20 hours or so on the first playthrough of each. The best part? You could probably find both for under $10.00. You owe it to yourself to play these games.

What Luzer said is very true.. Corruption is following the same formula as the previous games but with different controls...I'm with you on the Online Multiplayer aspect.. I'm glad Corruption isn't OM because it just doesn't work with the style of the games.. Run and gun doesn't work in the more Adventure orientated CONSOLE titles.. Echoes' Multiplayer showed that... Hunters is the acception, as it was a full on FPS, hence why I pointed out that I was referring to the console versions...I can't believe so many people haven't played these games. They are absolutely amazing and some of the best games of last generation. I'm just hoping you guys don't think Metroid is a run and gun FPS. It's an adventure game in first person not an FPS.

Jaysonguy, Rocky32189 is right. It wasn't that Metroid Prime didn't go the way Nintendo wanted, it's just that the series didn't sell too well. The first sold pretty good, but the second one soldquite poorly, considering the pedigree.luzer7072
I go with what Reggie said last Decamber in his interview
He said that Nintendo wasn't satisfied with Metroid Prime 2 and didn't like the direction the series was going. Then he said that Metroid for the Wii is going to to be very different from the way the series was going in 1 and 2.
That's why I wont bother with the earlier games. Sure some people say they're good but if Nintendo didn't like where it was going (obviously the fans thought that way also because 2 didn't sell as well as 1 which means that not only did they not gain any new players but also lost players from the first game) then I don't want to hurt the Wii experience.

Do you mean this interview?
"What I will tell you about 'Metroid' is that 'Metroid' will be fabulous," he said. "I think it's fair to say that all of us were disappointed with the sales of 'Metroid Prime 2,' [the game's developer] Retro included. The focus on 'Prime 3' is to make that the stellar game for a first-person experience on the platform. ... What that means is we're going to make sure it's perfect when we launch it. I think this is one where your readers - the fans of Nintendo, the core gamer - need to recognize that when we release it, it will be perfect. And if that's a little later than folks would have liked, I'm hoping they're going to be happy. They certainly seem to be happy that we took our time with '[The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.' " With that kind of talk, the obvious follow-up question was: "If it's perfect, does that mean it's going to be online?" In response, Fils-Aime said: "That's perfect for you."
If that is what you were talking about, then I think you misunderstood him. Do I need to explain how?
EDIT: If this isn't what you were referring to, may I please have a link to the correct article?
Jaysonguy, also, don't you think it's a little silly to base your entire opinion of this game soley on what you think you heard Reggie say? Did you not notice a single review for the game? Gamerankings lists it as the 3rd highest rated game in history, only being beat out by Sould Calibur and Ocarina of Time. As far as I'm aware, there is not a single negative critic review.
...
... wait...
Hold ona second... have you seriously never even given this game a chance? You've never played this game at all?
I never had a GC so I'm just getting around to playing the first Prime now. I have to say, I'm finiding it very difficult to get in to.
That said, I've found it hard to get into every MGS game so far, but after the initial work, I'm as hooked as a 60-a-day smoker, so I'm hoping this happens eventually with Prime

Just Beat the Ice boss (or the first Ice boss, not sure if there's more)
I realy have to start playing it again, haven't played it in over a month!
Too many games to play at the mo
nope, i beat them both, the first was better than the 2nd, but it doesn't mean that prime 2 sucked, it was still kick ass,
for all you people who haven't played the first two, your lost.

i would love to see a metroid prime game dedicated to soley online multiplayer, it would be awsome.

Again, you have no idea what you're talking about on so many levels. First off, if you actually read the interview you'll notice that they were just disapointed on the sales not on the direction. And they were not dissapointed on the sales of the first one because it actually sold very well. I believe it sold over 2 million copies while the second one only sold about a half million copies.
Second, how can you even being to talk about these games if you've never played them? They are two of the greatest games of all time yet you refuse to play them because of what you think Nintendo said when they never even said that.
Do yourself a favor and buy these games. If you don't then I truly feel sorry for you because you're missing out greatly.
