I've been wanting a new DS game, one that'll keep my busy for a while. So far I've narrowed it down to Disgaea and FFT:A2. I have played the first Tactics: Advance for 100+ hours, and enjoyed it (minus the law system and unfinishable side quests), but I've never played a Disgaea game. Of course, both games have the EXACT same average user score, so I can't go by that -_-

So, which game do you think I should buy? Or if you have any other suggestions, feel free to tell me. Thanks :D

Get A2. It's a huge game that will take you a long, long time to even make a dent into. It's a little complicated figuring out all of the mechanics, but once you get a hang of it the game becomes extremely fun.

disgaea is an awesome game. itll last you hndreds of hours. theres multiple endings, and new game+ if you ever wanna actually start over. plus a second story mode for an unlockable character. plus if you like to level grind, you can go up to level 9,999 in disgaea. you can even level up your weapons, armor and tons of stuff. theres also a bunch a character classes to unlock and use. its an amazing remake on the ds, and the ds has a few exclusive features that the first 2 versions of it didnt. i cant recomend this game enough. ff tactics might last over 100 hours, but if you want long play time, disgaea will easily last over 300 hours. i know pople that have over 500 and they still havent run out of stuff to do in there.

Well, I've currently been playing both and would have to say if you liked FF:T, go with A2, since it has the same great game play. Though you would not be disappointed with Disgaea either, but stick to what you like though if you want to stay on the safe side!

Final Fantasy Tactics A2 is very cool at the start, if you're into Final Fantasy Tactics series, you might like it, there are customizations and lots of gameplay hours, but the game can get very boring later (i couldn't ever finish the game). The storyline is weak and uninspired and the battle style animations are slow and not surprising.

Disgaea DS, as a game is way better. Funny and enjoyable storyline, you can customize everything (weapons and armors included), recruit monsters, lots of gameplay hours (especially because of the extras), the battle animations are quite awesome and you can turn them off in case you're leveling (to speed up the battle).

But as the abover poster said.. pick what you think it might suit you better.

Thanks for the replies everyone! Unfortunately, I'm not any closer to making a decision xD

Part of me wants to play it safe and go for the sequel to a game I really enjoyed, part of me wants to try something new...and obviously both games come highly recommended :P

decisions, decisions...

I just saw your post, meiaman. What can you do as far as customizing armor, etc.? I really like customizing stuff :Dfritter7
Its a complicated system at first sight, but actually its very easy to undenstand. You can customize your armor and weapons by adding specialists to them, those specialists increase the equipment status, each specialist has a class (gladiador, sentry, etc) a lvl (ammount of stat increase...) and a stat or special effect that they add (gladiador gives attack and go on.) You can acquire the specialists by finding and defeating them on the item world, after acquired you can move your specialist to any weapon/armor you want to. About the item world: what i'm going to say may sounds weird, but you actually goes inside your item (a sword for example) and fight your way 'til the bottom of the item world, if you manage to do it, your weapon will level up, this means that the stats that it gives will increase too. Besides armor, there is also a class system, but not similar to the FFTA ones, basically to change class you need to reincarnate. Using the reincarnate means your character can change class (even sex), but they will go back to lvl 1, but the great thing is that your character will be far stronger than a non-reincarnate level 1 character. Here is a example: lvl 50 character reincarnate. he will turn into lvl 1 character and his stats will reset. (with 50 added levels) This character will be somewhat more stronger than an average lvl 1 character. you train your reincarnated character to lvl 120 and reincarnate him again (he will have 170 added levels) your now lvl 1 reincarnated character will be far more stronger than an average lvl 1 character. So i guess this example explains it. And there are lots of other stuff to mess around in Disgaea. May opinion surely sounds a bit biased, but if you really want a recommendation, i really suggest you get disgaea first, then after some time, if you really feel like it, and since you like, you might get FFTA 2. It's basically going first into a new adventure exploring unexplored territory, and then after a while going back to your beloved and familiar home and territory. ;)

Hey thanks, nice explanation :D

Yeah the item world thing sounds like it adds a LOT of replayability to it...I'll probably go for Disgaea, sounds like it'll be fun and time-consuming, but I'll definately think about getting A2 in the future though :]

Thanks everyone for all of your opinions, especially meiaman :D

Disgaea is a fun game, especially if you just play those stratagy games. Just. However, FFTA2 is good if you want to focus on getting more units (Complicated in a way) and much, much, much more skills (once you master it, any other job can use it)! So, it depends on if you want to play and don't mind repeating the same stages over and over for money (Although the "Etna cutscenes" are funny), or if you want to be able to do different jobs an multiple quests that are different from one to one and focus on certain jobs!

Hey, I'm thinking the same sorta thing as you. but i think I'll go with Disgaea because it looks so Japanese. I think you should check out some game play videos, like on Youtube.com but the level 9999 and endless game play looks good to me^ ^.
