I've had it with people saying, "Oh no way! It's never been like that since...". People grow up, it's part of life. I mean seriously, who cares if Link/Mario games always had scroll dialouge and no voice acting, and who gives a flying f that Metroid games were meant to be single player only. Yeah, I'd love to see Nintendo still have no multiplayer for their "single player only" games for the next five years, or just watching characters in Link/Mario games mouthes move without anything comming out of their mouths.

One thing I was so dissapointed in about Metroid Prime, was that there's no multiplayer. Honestly.... what kind of first person shooting games now have no multiplayer? I can't think of any in top of my head besides: Metroid Prime series. I know there are some people that argue, "It's just weird shooting at Samus" or the common "It's only meant to be single player" Oh well geeze, if you really think that, don't play multiplayer... simple as that. I mean, look at Metal Gear Solid, that's going to be a multiplayer game and it sounds amazing. I also know that Nintendo isn't the best when it comes to online play, but seriously... get with the program. Games need multiplayer! (and it's not just Metroid).

Also, it's 2007, most games should have voice acting. Of course voice acting doesn't sell a game, but if Nintendo constantly makes games without them, then the whole Wii games itself will sort of look outdated. I'm not saying Link or Mario should have voices, (although I can picture voice acting for Mario), but atleast have other characters talk. With voice acting, I believe it adds a certain depth into the game making it feel more like a long, interactive epic movie.

So people, stop reverting these games back to their formal SNES/N64/GC version... it's the Wii we're dealing with now, something new, something innovative. For Nintendo to really florish, they need to think outside of the box... they did it with the Wii, just do it with the games.

Hah, my bad. What is FPA? First Person Action? Either way, I'd love to see the first real good shooter for the Wii, and I thought Prime would have been the perfect candidate. I've never played a Metroid game, but I know she uses an arm cannon, so it might be a little difficult... but be creative! I know they made a multiplayer Metroid game that flopped, but I'm sure they could do much better, especially on the Wii.

FPA = First person adventure.

Metroid was always an adventure game from the start. The game is full of puzzles. The game is not about shooting on everything. You must think to resolve the puzzle. If you have a Wii, go download Super Metroid.

Seriously, the game doesn't need to be multiplayer at all.

Bioshock.big_boy_down23

Ah, I don't own a 360 so I never really followed that game. In a way I kind of understand how Bioshock wouldn't have multiplayer seeing it to be possibly the first game of it's franchise. With Prime, there has been already two out for the series, there's even a multiplayer Metroid game... seeing this rumored to be the last Metroid game, why not incorporate multiplayer in it? And for you people who still say, "It's the last game! Why ruin it with multiplayer"... don't play multiplayer then!

Peach and Toadsworth spoke in the beginning of Sunshine if I'm not mistaken, and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption has voice acting. Zelda games are the only ones that don't, although many could argue that Midna did speak, but in Twilight language, or the simple fact that noone uses english in Zelda, they speak Hylian, which is why the signs have all those symbols. But I agree with you that it should have voice acting. Maybe the next Zelda on the Wii will have it.

I also know that Nintendo isn't the best when it comes to online play, but seriously... get with the program. Games need multiplayer! (and it's not just Metroid).

Metroid Prime 2: Echoes had multiplayer, and so did Hunters, and to me both sucked. Bad. And not only that, but the single player experience suffered because of it. Echoes wasn't half as fun as the original, and Hunters was dumbed down SEVERELY. Oh, and Metroid Prime is an FPA, not an FPS. It has lock on, which is one reason why MP2's multiplayer sucked. Being an MGS fan, I can't really see MGS in a multiplayer fashion. But I guess some people can, and more power to them, but Metroid Prime just doesn't work. If you actually want a DECENT FPS online multiplayer, just wait for Medal of Honor.

Also, it's 2007, most games should have voice acting. Of course voice acting doesn't sell a game, but if Nintendo constantly makes games without them, then the whole Wii games itself will sort of look outdated. Mario games don't really have cutscenes, cept for the beginning and end, and their were voice overs in Sunshine at the beginning and end.

So people, stop reverting these games back to their formal SNES/N64/GC version... it's the Wii we're dealing with now, something new, something innovative. For Nintendo to really florish, they need to think outside of the box... they did it with the Wii, just do it with the games.

That's all nice and stuff, but that is your opinion. While other people might agree with your opinion not everybody does. The biggest thing is your ignorance pertaining to online play and also multiplayer. Not every game should have multiplayer. Yeah, let Square add some multiplayer goodness to their RPGs and see how that turns out, probably will not be very good. As to Metroid, Retro has already said why they did not include a multiplayer mode. The reason is a legit one and I fully agree with them. That reason is so that they can focus on and make an excellent single player story. Metroid Prime 2: Echoes was hurt because of the multiplayer (Retro even agrees). I enjoyed Halo, but I thought the second one was lame for the single player mode and I got bored of it quickly.

As to the whole voice acting aspect.Maybe you need to learn to read better if it annoys you so much. Voice acting adds cost to a game that Nintendo might just not want to incur, did you ever think of that? They have to hire people to do the voices and that requires extra work and money on their part. So what if Nintendo wants to keep using text dialogue, I for one have no problem with that. I actually think it is good because it makes kids actually have to read and kids now-a-days do not seem to read books as often as they use to. Harry Potter was a great series for this because it actually got kids into reading again. So, I do not think there is any problem with text dialogue.

Lastly, onto mutliplayer again, while mutliplayer is fun, according to what you are saying it almost seems that every single game should have multiplayer. That is the most ignorant statement to say. A game should not have multiplayer thrown in just because it falls into a genre that normally has multiplayer. And as was mentioned before with Metroid, it is not a FPS, Nintendo has said it is a FPA (First Person Adventure). Take a look at Metroid Prime: Hunters for the DS. That was a multiplayer Metroid game and the single player mode sucked. You need to just get it into your head that not all games are gonna have multiplayer whether people want it or not. And Nintendo is thinking out of the box. Wii Fit is a game that would not be coming out if it was not for Nintendo, the Brain Age games are games that would not be out with out Nintendo not thinking out of the box.

The Wii is actually my second Nintendo console I own, SNES was my first. I always thought Prime series were single player only and they only multiplayer Metroid game was Hunters. So I apologize, I'm speaking from a different point of view. But believe me, I'm not saying every single player game should have multiplayer... that would be idiotic, not ignorant. I'm more dissapointed in the fact that Nintendo has only two multiplayer games. I know Mario Kart's comming out, and there's other more... but let's just say it wouldn't suprise me if Nintendo finalized SSBB without online play. Whether it is Nintendo's fault, or game developers never incorporated online in their games, I don't know, but one thing for sure... Nintendo isn't the best when it comes online play. Look at Gamecube online games, I never had one, but from what I heard, it was very limited. I also own a PS3, and I've seen 360 online capabilities: free demos, movie trailers, add-ons, etc. Much better than Nintendo's: virtual console games, and one game trailer. I'm just looking forward to WiiWare.

One thing I don't agree about is voice acting. You're telling me to read better, or that I'm annoyed at reading text? Where did you get that? I'm just ready to see these games to have voice acting. Of course we all know voice acting cost money, but Sony and Microsoft fork over the money, why can't Nintendo? It definetly adds an appeal to the game. Sooner or later, I honestly think these games will have voice acting, why not start now? Your point about kids reading in game text is good seems a bit farfetched. The dialogue is written so a five year old can read that. It even contains gramatical errors. I'm sorry but if a kid wants to develop good grammer, they should be reading anything but in-game text. If they don't want to, I don't care.

Those are actually a mod of Halflife refered to as Team Fortress. Counterstrike is also another half-life mod. Thing is the mods have jack squat in the way of single player.

For those hyped about Bioshock those who have played the System Shock games see nothing new whatsoever in Bioshock. System Shock is a fps with rpg and some minor puzzle elements. FPS fanboys are the ones complaining that the default difficulty of bioshock is too hard because they don't realize you aren't meant to rush into an area but scout around and take care of the means that enemies can spawn. Any system shock player can handle bioshock's difficulty.

Nintendo doesn't want to do voice acting since a lot of people who are excited about the characters often dread the voice because it doesn't match what is in their minds. For a new franchise it is fine but an old franchise not for the main character.

Third parties had the online gamecube kits they just never used it except for SEGA. The blame is on the third parties.

Gamers, deep down want Nintendo to remain in the gaming world in one fashion or another.

In terms of hardware, Nintendo is in the business of making money; they always have been, they always will be. Blue-ray and HD-DVD are the state of the art in the modern console market, so many well-to-do adult gamers want the best quality available. Yet, not every gamer (or gamer's family) can afford the price that state of the art requires. Nintendo executives are savvy to this share of the industry. Maybe this is why Nintendo leads for now.

On the other hand, people (AKA Joe/JaneCaz Gamer)likeuncontroversial innovation. This may not be true to you, but picture the board room.On would think thatsales for something that does not resemble a videogame (the Wii-mote controller)but entertains like a videogame would attract more attention than yourtypical videogame set-up. With that attention, you get the media, word of mouth promotion, and anticipation ofunfamiliar interaction.

Just as visuals have not tapped into the power of the PS3 or MS360 potentials, this later generations of Wii games have that much longer to evolve immersion of control. On the eve of MP Corruption's release, the Wii community has not yet opened doors, shot free throws, or paddled through a white river rapid in virtual control. Wii gamers have not heard other players, footsteps in hide and seek through the Wii-mote's speaker. Not yet have Wii gamers experienced DS connectivity.I imagine using the touch screen and stylus in a game like Okami.

Altogether, people know what to expect from realistic graphics. Some gamers prioritize other elements of game design more (ie. story, interactivity, and that x-factor of non visual fun: its hard to explain, but think Tetris). Do gamers want Nintendo to die? Well, I'm sure some think they would take pleasure from Nintendo exiting the biz, but I hope they try it before sticking a pinched nose in the air. Furthermore, if they think less competition will lead to greater innovation of our beloved hobby, what would be the motivation to be the best of only two competitors (think world super powers: think of innovation in the only super power left).

well i gotta say that multiplayer for metroid really just doesnt work with that control scheme because a big part of what makes a fps multiplayer great is aiming and you dont need to do that in metroid but you're right about the chit chat these characters do need to speak up it would really help the game seem more realistic that includes Zelda too

Technically .. no.. because metrois prime isn't just runnin and gunning like halo. Its more of solving puzzles, backtracking, and shooting.

I've never played a Metroid gamesuitmypants

Then perhaps you should try it before claiming you know what it does and doesn't need.

Time spent on one mode (like online multiplayer) means less time spent on another mode (like single player). The Metroid series has always been based on single player adventuring. And when you have a deadline (which Retro does) to put out a game, they'll spend their wrap-up time working on the focal point of the game -- single player mode. If that means scrapping an online mode, or not even considering one, so be it. Spending less time to work on the main point of the game to tack on a side multiplayer mode is a bad move.

If you really hope Nintendo will keep going well, hope that they'll give Retro the creative freedom to start a new IP aimed at being an FPS. You know they'd do an amazing job with it.

Well.. Prime isnt a normal shooter, hence why it does not need a multiplayer mode. Its a FPA, not a FPS.. And the day nintendo dies is the day when we loose some of the greatest franchises, ever, and we loose some real creativity in modern video gaming.

Nintendo's putting out the good games (well, I liked MP8, but I know some others that dislike it). If you want someone to die for cheap cash-ins, try about 90% of the 3rd party support for the Wii that came at launch. But don't have them dead until next year, that way I can take their job when I graduate.

just because a game doesn't have multiplayer doesn't mean it is a bad game. just look at bioshock.

Anyone else tired of these impatient rants towards nintendo's place in the "console race"? I mean, think about it. Nintendo's been in the business longer than any company (hardware and software wise). They know what people want in their GAMES. People want fun, and innovatio. We all know this. Nintendo knows this. Just because Nintendo isnt going crazy over online doesnt mean they dont have backup plans to make up for it. If you think about it, nintendo thinks outside the box for all of their games. Its this thinking that has allowed alomst all of their games to be classics and games you want to come back to several years down the road, unlike sony and microsoft. There are countless ppl who, even now, continue to play and enjoy the old mario and zelda games, despite technical limitation such as VO or online because they are great. When's the last time someone's played Halo 1? Most of the games coming out on Sony's or Microsoft's consoles are games that I like to call "spur of the moment" games, whereas they will last you as long as they game is still a hot topic thing. There is so much focus on online that most single player cmpaigns are garbage. What happens when you start to play against cheaters online or ppl stop playing it online? Your stuck with a worthless cd because you can't replay it because the single player sucks. MP 3 doesnt have online, but I can assure that just like MP1, you'll come back to it and play it more than you would than if there was online play because the game did not suffer for it. Mario Galaxy will be the same. Just because it doesnt have online doesnt mean you wont play it for years and years afterward. On the subject of VO, sometimes there are instances in which VO can actually HURT a game more than if it didnt (just look at Siren...or sonic the hedgehog). Besides, if you are such an anti-socialite that you depend on playing with random strangers 24 hours a day for your entertainment, thats your own fault, not nintendo.
