Occasionally, forexample:
Bidoof - he looks like a squirrel and a cat...so why not SquirrelCat?
pretty much only if i think of something funny that they look like basically.
[QUOTE="Soulreavercross"]I hate re-naming pokemon. I also hate it when I get re-named pokemon in trades.Jaysonguy
Do you hate it because you have to come up with so many different and unique names?
No. I just prefer their original names :P. That's all

Well then I'm glad you get to do that:P
And to be quite honest once the roster starts getting huge you have to REALLY charge up those synapses to pull good names out of the hat. lol
For me it depends on the Pokemon. Example: I name a male Ninetales "Naruto". Is that a bad name for it?
I would never remember which pokemon is which name, so i use the given name.bluezy
Same reason I don't,
not wit the old old ones
but yes wit the newer ones but only they kinda main pokemon
i aint gonna name no magikarp...or rattat
I name a pokemon if it finds it's way into my "bench." I use the word bench as a place on my in-game computer to place pokemon that I like to rotate through in battles and online. I have about 15 of them so obviously not all of them fit in my party. I also store HM pokemon, pick-uppers/friskers, etc. here.
Every pokemon that can achieve one of these goals get's a separate individual name. In online battles, this helps to stop somebody from a switch. If I name my pokemon something, and my opponent only see's the pokemon's name and not it's real name, he/she can't gauge if they can have the upper hand via a switch or not. Though I'm not exactly sure if the opponent sees the pokemon's real name or nickname... Just insurance on my part.

omg, people actually name them? I dont, this is why
TRAINER: I choose Blaziken! Go
YOU: I choose you! Jake!
EMPOLEON:(Why is this guy calling me Jake?)
YOU: Jake go!
EMPOLEON:(Stop that! Thats not my name!)
YOU: Go on Jake!
EMPOLEON: (Thats it! Im going back to my homeland, Papa, Mama and the old country. And sweet, sweet Pixieshnitzel...)
(Walks off)
YOU: Jake?
TRAINER: Great now i can rob you, (which is what they do, ever noticed that when you win the opponent gives you money?)
YOU: Eek!
(a man comes)
???: What?
YOU: Hmm?
???: I'm Jake.
YOU: Oh....awkward...
I always name my starter. Like Squirtle from LeafGreen, I named him Koopa:D. Should have renamed him Bowser when he evolved into Blastoise.
The only other time I name them is when I know they will be in the party permanently.
I don't seem to name any of my Pokemon. Maybe at random times and that's a rare thing.
I want too and I should.

Yes I do. As I see it, not naming a pokemon on your party is like keeping a pet and just calling it "Dog". Because the given name is the name of the species. Also, it adds a bit of personallity to them. I won't use a pokemon on my team if I can't name it myself, which is in sharp contrast to most people.
I make an exception to legendaries though, because they're mostly considered to be the only one in existence. (in the story) For example, I kept my shiny Giratina's name but I named my Shiny Magby "Maggie".
I don't know why but I've never named my Pokemon
I just collect them and then train them after, and if they have manes I forget who's what name and by gum it gets confusing :P lol
