I am a 30+ gamer . I bought every Nintendo System (except the NES) i own a Wii (i actually had to buy it twice since they broke in my apartment and stole everything) as well as a 360 and a PS3 .

As a person that owns a business i really admire Nintendo. They are making a lot of money but as a gamer saying i am disappointed is a huge understatement.

I haven't touched my Nintendo Wii since the 2 weeks i plaied Smash Brothers . I am playing so much stuff on my other systems and i am also leaving some for after the Holiday season ( CoD WaW, Left for dead just an example)

DO you really still care , as a gamer , about Nintendo? I mean is thjere really anyone who feels happy they bought a Wii?

Anyone who's followed Nintendo from the start knows this generation is no different then any other generation

Nintendo is based on casuals. That's how they got the market back in the mid 80's. They created casual games like Mario Bros and Zelda and have been keeping that going ever since.

Nintendo has NEVER made complicated games that are out of a 4 year old's range. Their games are easy and accessible that can be played by anyone and the gameplay and stories can be understood by the youngest of children or the newest of the gamer.

The idea that they used to be for the "gamer" and now they're not is false.

It's people not aware of their history that keep on making this mistake.

Who is "they"? I've given up on Nintendo. The Wii sucks and the games suck. I loved the SNES, N64, and Gamecube, but the Wii is absolutely terrible.

mmm...there is a big difference between "casual" and crappy

i plaied and loved MArio and Zelda but WiiPLay , wii Music are BAD not casual. Why did we have to buy a new hardware to play games that could have ben on the NGC? Sadly NIntendo has given a whole new meaning to the world casual.

ZBefore casual was someone that enjoyed video games sporadically and enjoied them even if not over complicated now Casual are grandpas and Soccer moms who buy games if they like what is ion the cover and not for the actual game itself .

Wrong

You liked Mario and Zelda and enjoyed them both

You didn't like Wii Play and Wii Music. Well let's see....

Wii Play is introductory software included with the Wiimote to allow new users the ability to experience all the motions the Wiimote can do. Now were you already well versed in what the Wiimote could do? Have you played games before and knew what to expect? Then that's your mistake

Wii Music is mainly for the younger crowd of players (age and gameplay wise) that aren't ready to play a game like Guitar Hero and Rock Band. Since you you already said you're 30 and have been playing games for years we can now see that you made your second mistake.

Great job at attacking the causal player who "buys what they see on the box" here's a newsflash, the majority of people who buy games do so from what they see on the box. You think this is the first generation that does that?

Casuals are the same as they've always been. Someone who does not have video games as their main hobby, that's it. When you ask a casual player what they do in their free time as a hobby they wont say video games until they're farther down the list.

never thought of it that way, but it makes sense... except that some games have a difficulty level that (regular) kids wouldnt be able to play. and then there's third party franchises. no, i dont regret buying a wii, i regret not having the money to buy all the games for it i wanted to, but the market doesnt allow (unless you dont mind paying over US$ 100 for a wii game, its an absurd price)

You see that is the problem .

I am not attacking but you are defending.

When i was 8 my father would buy games for me on the Atari 2600 that way

and there is nothing wrong with casual gamers but i feel that the "hardcore" gamer was abandoned

Since Smash Brother (wich , in my opinion,l was good not AWESOME) there has bee no release to please the gamer

I am a gamer and so, i wouldf have tought, is most people thatwrites in a video games forum

And as a gamer i am disappointed . I havet been on Wii forums since i first bought a Wii and was curious to know

if gamers were as disappointed as i am but in my post there is no attack.

You see that is my problem. You usually know of games a while before they are released and except for Punch Out for nostalgia there is absolutely nothing that was announced that makes me think i will buy a game. On Wii i plaied and enjoyed MArio, Zack and Wicky, Zelda , SSB and that game from Spielberg (for a week it was fun) but what else is there?

yes of course, they are still pumping out great games. Just because it may not get the same multiplats as 360 or ps3 doesn't mean it's not getting it's own good 3rd party games.

Ofcourse Nintendo is still the same as they always been and I couldn't be more happier with Nintendo since they are still making great games that the fans like just look at all the games they released from 2006 to 2008 on the Wii that is more then most First Parties do and they have alot of games that will release in 2009. Games like Punch Out, Sin & Punishment 2, Another Code R, Dynamic Slash, Spawn Smasher, Cosmic Walker, and Forever Blue 2. Sure these are all 2nd Party titles but Nintendo owns the rights to those IPs and they had to get somebody to make them. n-space and Monster Games are also making titles for Nintendo.

I have not touched my PS3 since I beat MGS 4, I have not touched my X360 for more than 3 months, and my Wii for a week, then again, I do work 80 hours a week and don't have as much time to play, but you better believe I love Nintendo games, as well as others, it's just that I have a whole lot of more fun on Wii.

I only own a Wii, I had a 360 it was fun but my Brother took it when he moved. I'm getting a PS3 sometime after Christmas. But right now I only have a Wii. This is the longest I went without owning another console because I always owned more then one console since the 16 Bit era.

its funny that Nintendo, which re engerized the gaming scene with the NES is now encouraging (maybe not encouraging but they arent stopping it) developers to make shovelware which will destroy gaming as we know it (think of atari back in the early 80s)

I never loved Nintendo, but I'm getting the Wii for the controls. I'm coming over from PC gaming and I really can't stand playing too many games with joystick technology that hasn't changed much since the 1970's (they have added more sticks and buttons to the controllers, but the basic technology was available in the 70's). Why anybody would want to play Call of Duty on a joystick is beyond me, and RPG's would be so much better with the Wiimote as long as it's done right.

Nintendo has come out with something revolutionary for games, and the industry still seems kind of confused on what to do with it. Some are finally starting to get it. It's been a long time since Nintendo was the leader in sales and Nintendo had to find a niche in order to survive in the console world, and that niche was casual games and games for children. I do not think this niche is why the Wii is doing so well since previous systems seemed to be aimed in the same direction and they did not do nearly as well as the Wii. The Wii's success is due to the controls, and there are some really cool titles coming out soon (again, many developers in the industry still do not get the Wii or are so stuck in their ways and are unwilling to try something new, which is why so many titles on other systems are stale).

2009 is the year of the Wii as far as games are concerned -- there are finally some really great titles coming out and I think other developers are going to take notice. These are the games I'm interested in buying, and most are coming out in 2009:

Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn

Call of Duty World at War

Medal of Honor

Dragon Blade: Wrath of Fire

Conduit

Monster Hunter

Valhalla Knights: Eldar Saga

Metroid Prime 3

Fragile: Farewell Ruins to the Moon?

Deadly Creatures

Dokapon Kingdom (party game)

Dynamic Slash Wii

Shiren the Wanderer III

Overlord Dark Legend

Battalion Wars 2

RYGAR: The Battle of Argus

The Wii still needs more shooters and WRPG's (games like Battlefield and old school Might and Magic are lacking), though this is definitely a start.

My 360 on the other side getws a lot of use between GeoW II , Fifa 09 , Rock BAnd IIand some Fable. If you own a 360 try GeoW II it is one of my favorite games of the year wioth GTA IV. Cheers

Nintnedo use to be uber if you ask me. Right after the N64 things went a little down hill, once the Wii came out it started feeling like Nintnedo fell in a hole, they might be selling well, but I sure don't feel like playing Wii Fit or Wii music, please pass me a copy of Mario World.

I love my Wii and I have the most games for that system than the other two. I like my PS3 & 360 but they are usually for single player experiences. I have two other gamers in the house and we mostly play the Wii together. We have a lot of fun doing it. I play the Wii for fun and the others for stress relief. That is the difference for me. The only thing we have more games that the Wii is for the DS which I have a lot of games.

Yeah as a 32 year old gamer I have to say I still love Nintendo although I'm realy disapointed that the Wii doesnt get the support from developers that it should. I just hope Nintendo takes thier new found fourtune and invests in some decent game studios because if they don't it could come back to haunt them when the casual sensation wheres off. I own a PS3 and 360 too but I'm so sick of shooters it's not even funny. Even if Nintendo doesn't always give us what we want at least thier games have some creativity to them.

Yeah, I bought Gears of War back in the day and it was just not my type of game. I know I should try to learn a little more about it, someone once told me it is a much better experience if I know some of the back story to the game. I guess I will try to get into it once I actually complete the Halo trilogy, which is one hold till I beat COD4. It's a mess when you have so many good games and so little time. I'm glad that you have been able to reduce your working hours, I used to own my own business a few years ago, too bad all my customers had to look for cheaper work internationally. I just double checked my gamercard and it turns out I played on live much more recently than I had thought, just seemed so long.

Is it really neccessary to have a Wii, 360, and PS3? Do you really have that much time and money to waste on gaming?JRYAN34
I did not know that buying something one wants to have fun with is considered wasting money, somewhat excesive? Maybe, but nothing wrong with it. Besides, when you really want to play such great games that are exclusive, you make some sacrifices.

I'm disappointed in Nintendo's choices especially this year. They could literally blow Microsoft and Sony out of the water with their software, but they're trying to prevent making the video game industry stagnate. Our industry wouldn't survive if new gamers weren't introduced and if Nintendo can bring new people into gaming thent that's potential revenue for the rest of that person's life. It's great business for them, sucks for us core games. I'll still support them, but I'm not longer a Nintendo only gamer.

That is EXACTLY the way i feel. In this moment NIntendo success worries me as a gamer. It kind of remindsme of the crash in the 80's when Atari flooded the market with a bunch of crap. I might be overreacting but i am worried for the future of my favorite hobby

On the contrary; I think you should be worried for the future of your hobby if Nintendo wasn't doing what they're doing. If the only new games getting released were games like Gears of War 2, Halo 3, Bioshock, Call of Duty 4, etc., I imagine that you would not exactly see very many new gamers. No new gamers means that the industry as a whole would collapse in just one single generation when all the old gamers died off. Far from ushering in a crash, I would assert that Nintendo is doing what needs to be done to prevent a crash.

I don't get it. If your a "30+ gamer" you should be able to spell "plaied" like "played" Just sayin'.

Also -- I still love Nintendo. A lot of Wii games are some of the best game's I've played in a while.

Nintendo fell in a hole with the Wii? How? By releasing a game that won GOTY at MANY places, or by releasing a game from almost all its major franchises withing a year and a half of launch? Or by creating Wii Ware, which has brought forth some might awesome games? Or by allowing people to buy and play classics on the VC? Or by allowing full BC with GCN games? I guess they fell in a hole by making Wii Play and Wii Music? I personally find some of the games on Wii Play to be really fun, and simple. Which at times is all you need as a gamer. People may believe Nintendo abandoned their 'hardcore' gaming community, but every single so called hardcore gamer does indeed play games casually from time to time.

But yes, I do very much still love Nintendo. As this gen doesn't look much different than any other gen. NES had a massive load of crappy games, so did the SNES, and the N64(Superman 64 anyone?), the GameCube had em as well.. You need to stop acting like Nintendo is any different now than they have ever been, Its just they are back on top and ya'll are either too young or too stuck in being a fanboy to realize this.

To be honest,no,I'm not; Nintendo is falling apart in my eyes,in their games and their choices.Pokemon (formerly one of my favorite handheld franchises) is at an all-time low,Phantom Hourglass is too dumbed-down (in my opinion),Smash Brothers Brawl was a step back from the superb Melee,Nintendo is focusing too much on dumbing down their games to the lowest denominator,GC ports is a terrible idea, the DSi is milkage and a downgrade from the DS Lite, and I could go on and on.Not all of Nintendo has done downhill; I just got Super Mario Galaxy last week, and it has to be one of the greatest gaming experiences I've ever had.The problem is that I haven't seen them put as much passion into their other projects as they've put into Super Mario Galaxy.

Removing the GBA port (thereby removing one of the best features of the DS and limiting the full use of current DS games that utilize it,like Pokemon),lower battery-life,and shunning everybody whom currently owns a DS by releasing exclusive content for the DSi despite the fact they are still the same system.

Maybe because no more GBA slot which also means no more rumble pack? I still like my DS a lot but the Wii not so much. No more love for Nintendo.

Never played a GBA game on my DS, so I guess maybe thats why my opinion differs.

But, it didn't launch at the price of $400, now did it?

But back on topic: I still love Nintendo and I always have. Yes, I love my Wii console, lots of fun when I need some quick fun like Wii Sports or more in-depth experiences like Metroid Prime 3 or Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Yes, there is more powerful hardware out there. Yes, online could be better and so-on. But the same could be said about anything really. My idea is to just enjoy gaming, have fun.

I don't get it. If your a "30+ gamer" you should be able to spell "plaied" like "played" Just sayin'.

Also -- I still love Nintendo. A lot of Wii games are some of the best game's I've played in a while.

YEs i am 30+ but as my gamer tag suggests i am italian and English is my third language after Italian and Spanish i had an apology for my English in my old sig ,guess i need to redo it

[QUOTE="ItalianHammerUS"]I might be overreacting but i am worried for the future of my favorite hobbyGabuEx
Far from ushering in a crash, I would assert that Nintendo is doing what needs to be done to prevent a crash.

i disagree, since Nintendo is doing all this money cathering to a casual market with very crappy games( i am also and especially talking about third party) if MS and Sony decide to go the same way i think it is a very dangerous trend and we have seen already MS attempting to do so with I am in the Movies (not sure about the title) and Sony with the sixaxis. The new vision of gaming is very far from what many gamers want. Judging from this tread though many are happy just this way. Good for you

As more and more people buy the Wii, it will get more attention from 3rd parties. Already this year Nintendo has seen some of the best 3rd party support since the SNES. That's saying something.

Now, I don't know what your definition of a "good game" is, or a "hardcore" game, but I assume you look at reviews to make your decisions for you, otherwise you'd realize that there are dozens of good games on the Wii that can appeal to the harcore gamer if you're willing to branch out.

Hell, even if we go by review scores, there are still currently 67 "Good" games:

LINK

So, I assume you haven't picked up all 67 of those games that scored 75 and above (75% is considered a "good game" by review standards), otherwise you wouldn't be complaining right now. Even some of the lower-reviewed games are still fun, you just have to understand what you're playing before you play it. For instance, a game like Elebits (or Eledees, depending on where you're from) is a game that has a good idea, but feels more like a tech-demo than a full game, but that doesn't mean that it's not fun to play while you're playing it.

You have to understand that the Wii is a new idea in the gaming world. Most developers have been accustomed to using the analog sticks and 10+ buttons to do everything in their games for the past decade, it takes time for them to adjust to a completely new way to play games, and it takes time for new ideas to come to fruition. Boom Blox is a perfect example of a new way to play a video game, and for the most part, they nailed it. That game could not have been possible on other systems.

Eventually, we will see a lot more support (both 1st party and 3rd party...although I already see the support myself), more unique games, and more ways to play, and hopefully people like you, who maybe don't understand what the Wii is, what it can be, and what it is going to be, will one day "get it".
