[QUOTE="GabuEx"][QUOTE="ItalianHammerUS"]I might be overreacting but i am worried for the future of my favorite hobbyItalianHammerUSOn the contrary; I think you should be worried for the future of your hobby if Nintendo wasn't doing what they're doing. If the only new games getting released were games like Gears of War 2, Halo 3, Bioshock, Call of Duty 4, etc., I imagine that you would not exactly see very many new gamers. No new gamers means that the industry as a whole would collapse in just one single generation when all the old gamers died off. Far from ushering in a crash, I would assert that Nintendo is doing what needs to be done to prevent a crash. i disagree, since Nintendo is doing all this money cathering to a casual market with very crappy games( i am also and especially talking about third party) if MS and Sony decide to go the same way i think it is a very dangerous trend and we have seen already MS attempting to do so with I am in the Movies (not sure about the title) and Sony with the sixaxis. The new vision of gaming is very far from what many gamers want. Judging from this tread though many are happy just this way. Good for you What VERY crappy games has Nintendo personally made that has sold well? Wii Play can't really be counted as its basicly a $10 game, so not much money there. Wii Sports is a pack in game everywhere but Japan. Wii Music failed to sale. Wii Fit is a balance board, which is the majority of its cost, and its NOT a crappy game. So where is the crappy games that Nintendo has made? I can only think of one not good game Nintendo has made, and thats Mario Super Sluggers.

Wii Music Sales
Wii Music has legs. Just like every other Nintendo product. So your argument doesn't work here.
But Wii Music is the perfect game for the audience they're going for. It's a game aimed at casual players, children, etc. If you fit into that demographic, the game is great. People who bought it off Amazon love it:

Customer reviews show that most people gave the game 4 or even 5 stars (out of 5). So obviously it's a well-made game for what it is. Just because it doesn't apply to a "hardcore" gamer doesn't mean that it's a bad game or shovelware.
Self-proclaimed "hardcore" gamers think they're so elitist, like nobody else should be playing games. That's ignorant. The industry will collapse if these new gamers aren't introduced to games. The "hardcore" gamer is a dying breed, and because of that the industry is finally making unique games with new ideas. I applaud them for it, first person shooters are getting tired.

Nintendo is not inferior as a system. other than their lack of high class third party support.
What I think most people are mistaking for failure on the part of nintendo isa lack of hard-core story driven games. Lets see... which games are always brought up in these kinds of discussions: Bioshock, Gears ofWar, Halo and sometimes MGS4. All of these games have a long well written story and are all third party games. Nintendos self released games have always appealed to a younger more casual audience. Lest we forget that Nintendo is the only console company that makes its own games! So what I don't get is why people keep bashing Nintendo and not Ubisoft or Nibris for the poor stock of games it's not like Nintendo can force these guys to make games for their system.
Oh and BTW best wii games ever are Bully and Sam and Max.
I am a 30+ gamer . I bought every Nintendo System (except the NES) i own a Wii (i actually had to buy it twice since they broke in my apartment and stole everything) as well as a 360 and a PS3 .
As a person that owns a business i really admire Nintendo. They are making a lot of money but as a gamer saying i am disappointed is a huge understatement.
I haven't touched my Nintendo Wii since the 2 weeks i plaied Smash Brothers . I am playing so much stuff on my other systems and i am also leaving some for after the Holiday season ( CoD WaW, Left for dead just an example)
DO you really still care , as a gamer , about Nintendo? I mean is thjere really anyone who feels happy they bought a Wii?
I still love Nintendo. Everybody just needs to give them time. Because if you give more time the better the games will be. And next year it will be alot better then this year. The only change in Nintendo that I notice is their advertisements.
When in the SNES days they'd advertise for Super Mario World or StarFox, they now run commercials for WiiFit.
Nintendo 64 had adds for games like Super Smash Bros, while Wii has adds for WiiMusic.
The Wii library is so overwhelmingly full that you have to dig through piles of shovelware to get to the good stuff. Nintendo still makes great games and even some third parties have released great titles, but because most people don't research games thoroughly before they buy them and Nintendo only advertises for certain titles, they're much harder to find.
We shall forget it, since its not true. Both Sony and Microsoft have internal studios... When Halo 1-3 was made, it wasn't a third party game.Nintendo is not inferior as a system. other than their lack of high class third party support.

What's this rubbish about this generation being the same as the last? Balony!
Nintendo, a business has taken a huge arguable sellout stab at the casual market to compensate for the gamecube which had horrible success for the same market. It's a money aking success...good business.
In previous generations yes, Nintendo was the ringleader but circumstances and markets were entirely different.
The gamecube was the "gamers" console. Games made for gamecube have more love put into them then titles we've seen on Wii. The gamecube was a humble market. Look at the first party titles now...with the exception of Galaxy, they've just been a bunch of fanpleasers.
What's an even bigger load of crap is this "securing the future of the industry" concept. The masses of new players attracted to the bright lights of motion sensing and Wii(insert title here) yes bring more money into the industry. But if you actually cared to think.. theindustry has been growing anyway. Unless theres a fallout or something a generation slump bringing down the industry is a stupid idea.
The "bright lights" anyway are short attention span titles that are out for making a quick buck, as we saw in the PS2 era, these titles aren't securing any new markets accept introducing the occasional younger gamer into the industry. But if you think about the multitudes of little kids that played GTA or wanted to pick up their older brothers copy of goldeneye, you'll find yourself wondering whther you'd need these titles at all.
Motion sensing being a new, huge, innovative step forward?
Let's just say things are easier said than done.

All wrong
1. It's always been this way
Sorry to disappoint you but Nintendo has always been about getting the casual gamer. Once gaming crashed in the early 80's by it's own weight it was Nintendo who understood that the available market was not enough to make the gains they needed as a company. They created a family console with games for everyone with the setting on the easiest level possible.
They even included a toy robot to seal the deal
2. It gives them financial stability.
Not so sorry this time to explain that the industry has not been growing over the last decade. If the growth of gaming had been a stock no one would want to buy into it. It was the same small market fished over and over and over. Nintendo had to find a new place to fish in order to reap the largest rewards.
The idea that gaming can sustain itself JUST by going after the same market is false and has been proven many times. If you'd like to see the latest example of it check out today's story on Midway.
3. Cheap titles have always been here
Now it's just getting tiring but I'm here to explain that "shovelware" has always been here since the introduction of consoles that played more then it's preploaded game. You always hear about the great games on the NES but the NES also had a larger library of awful titles made for no other reason but to make a fast buck on a successful platform.
Nothing is happening now that hasn't happened in the past. The only thing that changed is now there's outlets like this forum for people who don't know the history of gaming to complain about it.
I love Nintendo more than ever these days and I'm no child (20yrs old). It is very convenient that I can play any Nintendo game I want to on my Wii thanks to the VC and backwards compatibility. I never got to play Super Metroid before. SUPER METROID for god's sake! Anywho, Nintendo is still making fantastic games. Mario Galaxy is easily the greatest 3D platformer ever made. Super Smash Bros. Brawl improved greatly on Melee's gameplay and stuffed it with insane amounts of content. Brawl is the greatest multiplayer experience in existance! Nothing else even touches it. Mario Kart is better than every previous mario kart in every aspect but the items which are a little unbalanced.
How has Nintendo gotten any worse? They are just releasing different games like Wii Fit and Wii Music along side the amazing titles they released on their previous consoles. I look forward to the next F-Zero and Pikmin games! Not to mention Punch Out and sin and Punishment coming next year!

The "casual" gamer has changed in the last 20 years. Family consoles have always been about appealing to the kids taste. The new casual gamer is this stereotypical middle aged audience.
Yes, nintendo does reap financial stabilty as the does the industry. But last time I checked the 360 and PS3 were also securing an equally large protion fo the industry without neglecting their founding audience.
Everyone here knows shovelware exist and always has, but when first party ttitles begin crossing that line frequently, then we got a problem.
This topic is about how much we love nintendo, when nintendo starts making money out of plain rubbish and neglecting a large audience how can we love them? Especially when judging from the sucess of the ps3 and 360, that they could have made just as much money by being just like them: how Nintendo was like in the N64 / snes era anyway.
And "all wrong". judging form your rebutal, it doesn't look like you have a problem with the argument gamecube games > wii games and Motion sensing = you still have to wait to see
I'm in my 30's and personally don't care for the Wii controllers. I've always been a PC gamer myself with the 'casual' game with my 9 year old son(Luigi's Mansion, Super Mario Sunshine, MarioKart etc). My son is 9 and he loves his Wii. All of his friends have them and they all love them too. Several guys I work with actually have PS3 and play online together in COD, NHL 09 etc and have been asking me to get a PS3 as well. I mentioned this to my son thinking he'd be overjoyed to get a new console in the house(along with the already present DS Lite, GBA, N64, NGC, & Wii). When I mentioned getting a PS3, he put his hand on my shoulder, looked me straight in the eye and said "Dad, we're a Nintendo family, I don't really think we need a Sony product here do you?" Funny stuff.
I definitely think the Wii is geared towards the younger gamer mostly and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. i've tried to play CoD and MOH on it and didn't care for it at all but that's just my opinion. I'll take a gamecube controller OR a keyboard and mouse anyday.
sorry to ramble, thanks for reading.
:D
No i never did love them i never put forward my fall love to a company as there aim is obviously $$$.But i'm heavily disapointed how they've gone about this generation i had plenty of enjoyable experiences on the gamecube and n64 but the wii doesn't cut it i've only enjoyed about 4 games on iteverything else is just crap on the shelves.I mean yeah the older consoles may have had casual games but not like this when i go in a shop and see 50 party games with the exception of 4 decent games somethings going on.
As long as they are making a good buck its really all that matters right?
no.
They finished development for twilight princess like halfway through 2006 and released it in november, TP was announced a year after the windwaker.
It has now been officially 2 years since our last console zelda game, and absolutely no word about a new zelda, mario, metroid, starfox, dnokeykong and no news on the new pikmin.
I think its safe to say nintendo gave mario a pink slip and replaced him with their new mascot:
DR. Kawashima
Are you implying that a four year old could play Metroid or Kid icarus? those games are hard and they of from the time when Nintendo dominated.Anyone who's followed Nintendo from the start knows this generation is no different then any other generation
Nintendo is based on casuals. That's how they got the market back in the mid 80's. They created casual games like Mario Bros and Zelda and have been keeping that going ever since.
Nintendo has NEVER made complicated games that are out of a 4 year old's range. Their games are easy and accessible that can be played by anyone and the gameplay and stories can be understood by the youngest of children or the newest of the gamer.
The idea that they used to be for the "gamer" and now they're not is false.
It's people not aware of their history that keep on making this mistake.

Being accessible doesn't mean a game is casual.
I do really still love nintendo's products, but my problem with them is that they have a machine capable of making the perfect fps as well as rpg and all i get are things like WiiMusic. I personally have fun when I play the games like WiiMusic and WiiPlay with my friends. But once I reached level pro on tennis in WiiSports the only time i play it is when I'm playing with friends. That is where the real problem lies for me, party games are nice, but i can't even get a decent non-Nintendo game that I can play by myself let alone other games. I love the usual Nintendo games [Mario, Zelda, Metroid, SSMB]. I just want more games like my Metroid Prime 3 and Resident Evil 4 which is so far the best shooters I have played on the Wii. To me there is just way too much emphasis on the motion controls for every single game. In Resident evil 4 the motion cotrols are saved for slicing, aiming, and random action sequences a la Time Crisis. We all know Nintendo can deliver with their games but third party support for anything but party games sucks. That and anything that is multiplatforming on the Wii usually sucks as well. The features are usually thrown away especially on pretty much all of EA's games [which i very much like, I love Madden and NFS and I take Live for what it is.] On a positive note, I like the WiiWare and the VC and in fact I have games from both.
But to return to the question at hand, My only issue comes with the lack of depth and creativity form the third party fps and rpg. RPGs are rly lacking in that the only one I even have is FFCC: My Life as a King [which I personally like how Final Fantasy is done on PS2 and PS3 better]. You could evn do a great MMORPG on the Wii, given the proper internet connection, since the WiiMote is nothing but a mouse and all the buttons can be commands. To me, Nintendo needs to get on quality control from Third Party developers because I rly hate that every game I want to play can't seem to incorporate the Wii controls nicely unless its a party game with me doing ridiculous stunts. I feel like once they get more FPSs and RPGs that actually make well thought out use of the controls as well as have interesting story they will appease their fans.
That being said, I still do like the Wii for what its worth. Nintendo just needs to regulate and get rid of so many non-story games with repetitive motions. If I could get a decent RPG, basketball, football, and non-mario kart racing game [not to diss mario kart but sometimes when i'm racing i just wanna race in a normal car in a city] a la NFS Underground I'd be even happier with my Wii.
Are you implying that a four year old could play Metroid or Kid icarus? those games are hard and they of from the time when Nintendo dominated.SapSacPrimeI played Metroid when I was four and absolutely loved it. I never beat it back then... in fact, I never beat it until it was remade for the GBA with a map (among other things). Don't underestimate the ability of little kids to play games. I was much better at gaming back then than I am now.
Not really.
Only game really worth playing anymore on it is Brawl.
There's NEVER anything new in this forum, just wishing and possibility topics that never happen.
Nintendo DS is more serious buisiness though, with better games and less shovelware. I still love Nintendo, but they need to step it up, no time for breaks.
In the meantime I'm just gonna switch to RROD... i mean 360.
Animal Crossing, Tales of Symphonia 2, Sonic Unleashed... Well, I suppose if you say "besides everything that's new, there's nothing new in this forum", then that would be accurate. :PThere's NEVER anything new in this forum, just wishing and possibility topics that never happen.
