Yes but not PS3/360 powerful. That would have been stupid. Just a moderate upgrade, 1.2 GHz processor, stronger GPU (with sgader support damn it), 128 ram. That would have been fine and not broken the bank. Right now they aren't geting the support they need because you can just port last gen games.

With the specs I'm suggesting the console could have run something like Half Life 2 moderately well and that would have been more than enough to pose them for complete dominance.ActicEdge

im sure HL2 runs on the wii as it is.It runs on the old xbox(which as an older class processor).COD4 is a more taxing engine and it runs on the wii.

It also looks like crap. COD4 also looks like crap on the wii. I'm talking about running HL2 at some decnt setting here.

if the heavy taxing cod4 engine runs on wii at lower quality, means the lower requiring HL2 has a good chance of running at good settings. Heck, from a technical standpoint, Q3 engine is on par.

If the SNES didn't come out in the 90's, and instead, came out now with the same library of games. I would get the SNES over PS3 and Xbox 360. Gameplay is where it's at.

The SNES did a great job holding its own against the Sega Saturn and Sony Playstation. I look back at that era when I think about the Wii holding its own against the XBox360 and PS3. I think the Wii is doing an excellent job.

They've scared off plenty of devs this gen that would normally jumped on the most selling console due to the Wii's horrible hardware, they launched a $150 console and sold it for $250 launch day, they could've packed more hardware into it and still made a profit by selling it at $250 or $300 (as clearly ppl were willing to spend $300 on wii's outside of stores)

they could've easily slipped a single core 1.5GHz-2Ghz CPU, more RAM, more Video Memory, etc into it and had it close to PS3/360 while still much cheaper, and gotten many, many more multiplatform games

Yes they should have.

Nintendo's multiplatform game list is seriously lacking because of it.

I say yes, I mean they could have at least added hd support for gods sake....if they would have just made the graphics card one and a half times more powerful than it is right now people would be a hell of alot more satisfied with it cuz lets face it, gameplay only gets so far with the ADHD society we live in today, and one final thing, when I am not feeling obligated to buy a Nintendo console there is something very very very very wrong.

i think the Wii should definately be more powerful. i mean, we could still keep our wii-exclu. games, and then have our multiplat games and they could live up to PS3/360, or closer than they are. i dont mean in terms of graphics,(i think we gotta wait some time until they get groundbreaking graphics) but i mean like supporting more people online and having more game modes and having more everything. along those lines.

GabuEx

This is what I was talking about. People always say that they want the Wii to be more powerful, but the reason why they want that generally is basically because they want the games that the other two consoles are getting. That's kind of like buying a Volkswagon and then complaining that it wasn't a Ferarri.

If you want the games that the powerful consoles are getting, then buy one of those consoles. :P And if one's complaint is that those consoles are too expensive... well, there's why the Wii was not built powerful.

But the Wii is more expensive than the more powerful 360 arcade.

Right now yes but not at launch...

MS drop price because they had to...do you think they actually want to?

whereas Wii is selling like hot cakes why bother dropping the price? ...price drop will come later for sure just not now..

While I don't think they would ever have gone the HD route with the Wii as that simply wasn't the plan more video memory and a better graphics chip would have meant better textures and better AA. That's all the little white box really needs, a dual core processor to help with AI routines etc might have been useful but not essential.

$60 games and $400 console prices is one of the reasons I bought a wii.

brandontwb
Consoles are $300 now, and not all games cost $60. Wii games cost $60 too...

No last time I checked every Wii game I've ever bought has been $50.........

Would have been nice to have SMG or Metroid Prime Trilogy in HD so, yeah I would have preferred a more powerful console. I don't have any other this gen consoles so the only Hi Def gaming I can do is off my original Xbox.

If I wanted one of the other consoles, I would have bought one.

Which I did.

I did as well, problem is the games that bring me back to Wii are few and far between. It's the waggle I dislike, I love the pointer though.

The wii is the first console to be underpowered in comparison to other consoles. Nintendo always had the strongest console (with the exception of the gamecube being the second). So im pretty sure they will do something next gen. they just tried something different this time around which they acknowledged.

painguy1

Sony underpowered their last two consoles.

It would have been cool if The Wii could have been like the dreamcast this generation while being weaker than 360 and PS3, it still is in the same ball park. Since when does more poerful console mean less quality games? If the Wii had somewhat similar capabilities to that of the other systems, the wii wouldn't be getting games 2 or 3 years after the other versions and stripped versions at that. Having some nice multiplats on Wii isn't a bad thing. The Wii might have actually have gotten Soul Calibur 4 or Street Fighter 4 and actually had at least some fighting game. I mean yeah Tatsunoko vs capcom seems cool but it seems extremely similar to Marvel VS Capcom and I can buy that on one of the other systems. Mario Bros Wii might have had online if it were more powerful. Instead of doing 16 players, the wii could have done 32. 32 is becoming more standard for multiplayer. We are getting games that are getting an even higher number of players. Who wants to play a game with 16 players when you can play an all out war with 256 players? Metroid Prime 3 would have looked even more phenomenal with upgraded graphics. The same with Mario Galaxy.

Yes the wii gets a lot of exclusives because it is different than the othres but a lot of these exclusives aren't equally or better than the other versions. Who really thinks Final Fantasy Crystal Bearers is going to be better than FF 13? Who thought Soul Calibur Legends was better than Soul Calibur 4? Who think Cod 4 will be better on Wii than the 360/ps3? These games are made for cash ins to help fund the big true projects on the other systems. Yes there are a few developers that want a real game for Wii but most of the time, you aren't going to see squat. Why do you think EA and other companies have opted to do fitness games and the like for Wii. Those are the only games that appeal to the Wii crowd.

If you are a veteran gamer and think Nintendo will make a turn around at this point, you are sorely mistaken. Suda is now working on a PS3 exclusive and the Muramasa guys are looking into the other systems as well. What does that tell you? The wii is the best selling console yet devs are starting to leave.

Well yeah but I'm satisfied with the one that's out now (Besides internal storage space of course).
