Possibly, I'm not much of an achievement hog but I think they're neat for those that like them. Pirates! has them and it is a cool feature, wouldn't mind it as a system standard
I have quite a few trophies and achievements simply because I wanted them... I mean I would have never done some of the things I did in the games if it were not for trying to get them. I truly think if the Wii or nintendos next console has a trophy system of some sort, I will play Nintendo much more then I do now. I know the trophies and achievements don't mean anything, but it gives a nice feeling of accomplishment! :) So, yes I do HOPE it will!
I think it should. I like playing wii but say if something like Zelda was on PS3 or 360, I would have more incentive to complete it on these consoles - because of the Achievements/Trophies - than on Wii.

This is where I disagree completely, if you need a meaningless trophy as an incentive to finish a game then thats really sad.
I never really understood that concept. Then again, Yahoo Answers is the dumbest place on the entire Internet because some people seem to think that it's some sort of MMO given that it ranks your username, so, I may be part of a minority.
well i would hope so. universal achievements have basically become standard now and the non inclusion of such a system in Nintendo's next console would be a huge mistake.

It would be such a loss, right? To miss out on virtual achievements and trophies?
Man, I felt more accomplished on unlocking the Golden Gun in Goldeneye 64. Or unlocking more fighters in Mortal Kombat, Tatsunoko vs Capcom, Smash Bros. etc. No,they just replace actual unlockables in a lot of games.

Yes it would. When your playing games your pretty much always working towards something so its nice to have a system that recognizes and rewards you as you play. They also add value to a game imo by adding goals and challenges to a game that you wouldn't normally bother with otherwise. Its also fun t compare with your friends.
No they are not necessary but the real question is why not? Add achievements so people who enjoy them can and people who dont care can ignore it.

Achievements are routinely unlocked hand and hand with unlockables.
In what games?I was wondering about this the other day.
They could keep it very simple and just use coins from Mario color them accordingly (bronze, silver, gold, insert a Nintendo item for a platinum... maybe a power star). When you'd receive one, it could make the coin sound with the acheivement message.
It's simple, and Nintendo-themed. I think that could work, but knowing Nintendo, no.

In what games?Plenty. I cant really write a master list off the top of my head but there are many of them. In SF4 you unlocked an achievement for unlocking Gouken. In uncharted you unlocked trophies for gathering treasure which in turn unlocks extra content like the concept art and game filters. An achievement system only replaces unloackables if the developer wants them too. Blame the developer not the system if a game has no real unlockables.

Alright fair enough, but a lot of games aren't like this.[QUOTE="MylesB93"]

In my opinion it makes it more competitive - comparing trophies/ achievements with my friends. And plus, I would rather spend 3 hours looking for an item to get a virtual reward than nothing at all.[QUOTE="WreckEm711"][QUOTE="MylesB93"]

Hope not unlocking things like in Brawl and Donkey Kong Country Returns are much better than unlocking achivements.
Not sure why, but I like em and want to see a sytem integrated into the next nintendo console. I don't play games that I wouldn't ordinarily play to get them and if they aren't fun or overly difficult I don't go out of my way to get them. The games that I really love I try to get most of them so it adds replay value for me. I think if they were part of Wii games I'd have more of my Wii titles finished than I do though.
I never thought about that. Nintendo should have it's own version of achievements/trophies in the 8th generation of videogames. I don't really care about getting achievements or trophies. However many people like them so Nintendo should think about having them in the 6th Nintendo.
The next console probably will have achievments, along with a lot of the other things the PS3 and 360 have. The next Nintendo system will probably just be an HD Wii.
I hope nintendo realizes some of the grave mistakes made this gen and finds a harmonous balance with eccentric and innovative with maintream necessities. If they do have an achievment system I hope they expand on it somehow. Off the top of my head being able to unlock different backgrounds/skins, or username avatars, more cutomization to mii's or even having some system that gives points towards downloadable games. Doesn't hurt to dream but I don't think its too far fetched to expect a different approach from nintendo either.
Nintendo has said that they don't like the virtual carrots that are trophies and achievements.Though I think they just said that cause they didn't think it up first. paradigm68
Same, it's like certain companies saying motion is a tacky gimmick.... then copying it :P

Aren't they doing token things on 3DS. I say the next system will build on what 3DS has. Just like Wii built on what the the regular DS did. Regular DS introduced the stylus as another way to play handhelds. The wii introduced motion controls. A similar thing will happen with the next main console.
I don't care about these things. I do think Nintendo should use the internet to upgrade and enhance their games using DLC. Obviously I'm not talking about DLC that is something lame that they have planned before the game is even released. Imagine a new Smash Brothers game where they can add new characters a year after the game's release. Imagine if new levels or challenges could be added to the next 3D Mario game well after its release. I know a lot of people are opposed to it. They want everything in their game at the time of purchase. Well, it doesn't work that way folks. The game has to be released on some day. DLC allows them to extend the life of a game exponentially. Of course, major video game publishers know this already, but instead they take this stuff and package it into a completely NEW game, thus forcing you to pay another 50 dollars for the new game.TheLordMagnus
Developers also force you to pay for things that should be in the game from the get go like extra difficulties, costumes, and other things people shouldn't have to pay for. Some games offer DLC that let's you have things that are already unlockable in game. Tiger woods and Blazblue are examples of poor DLC.

Nintendo already has achievment like stuff in some of their games. Punch Out and Warioland are good examples of this. They have challenges you can complete. Punchout has you beat the boxers a certain way. Warioland has you beat the level with certain restrictions like, "beat the level without touching water." So Nintendo is full of crap if they say otherwise.
I disagree, at the end of the day achievements are pointless, if a game needs a carrot to convince you to play then you don't really want to play the game. If you would have played the game all the way through anyway, then their presence is meaningless. Nintendo appears to feel the same, on top of that even if they did institute the system, they would be unlikely to make it mandatory and as we saw on the PS3, when developers aren't forced to do it, there aren't many takers.Yes it would. When your playing games your pretty much always working towards something so its nice to have a system that recognizes and rewards you as you play. Possible, but do I care NOPE! ..why trophies nowadays is a joke...eg. you get a trophy for finishing the game on EASY level, what's the point? Give it to ppl who finish it on HARD or HARDEST difficulty. They just put whatever willy nilly, like you did 100 hadoken..or you have killed 100 ppl ..so?..that means what?...next it will be you came last - YEAH!!!!
I don't personally want them, but a lot of other people do, so I hope they do. I have no idea if they will though, but from what I've gathered, it sounds like they don't want to use them.
Why do people care about this, all it does is make the life of game a little bit more, but still there pointless other then that and people that play to show off that they have them, is stupid
ya pretty much this. a recent example is that kill an elite from a fatal fall on halo reach...ARGH. i did get it though but an example of something i would of never done otherwise. nintendos next system needs this and the complete destruction of friend codes. plus if you have two identical games say on the xbox live/psnetwork or wii network. ill buy it on the 360 for achievements. im just saying and i know im not the only one who wil ltake two identical games and buy it for the achievements as opposed to not achievements. and its fun me and my friends try and outdo each other though i am like 12 000 ahead of the closest friend lol.I have quite a few trophies and achievements simply because I wanted them... I mean I would have never done some of the things I did in the games if it were not for trying to get them. If achievments gave me something worth while such as free Wii points, then I hope it does too. Otherwise, I couldn't care less.

Pretty much. Developers should come up with good post-game content and surprises instead of just throwing in a few ,,goals'' in there, that lead to virtual points and ,,awards'' that have no purpose at all. If I'm fussy, I could actually say it makes a game worse, because there are these stupid pop ups every few minutes for stuff I don't care about.

Saying achievements are "pointless" doesn't really hold up when video games themselves are already trivial and pointless to begin with by the same logic. And if Nintendo was smart, they could just have an option to turn off the achievement notice. Problem solved.
