Seeing as how this is the first true Super Mario game sequel, I think it's about time. I've always wanted Super Mario 64 2 but that never happened. Elian2530super mario bros 2 and 3, super mario world 2 say hi. oh, and super mario 64 DS has enough new stuff to be considered a new game, according to my mario-64 addicted friend.
[QUOTE="InfinityMugen"]Then you don't want 3D Mario or you don't want Mario at all. Eh? I didnt say I disliked the current 3D Mario games, but I would like a complete change in the format; something other than having Mario chase after stars. If I expressed that the current Zelda formula is getting stale, would you accuse me of not wanting to play Zelda at all?:roll:I want a 3-D Mario that doesnt play like Mario 64 with a twist.

I kind of wish it wasn't another Galaxy. I didn't like how linear the first game was and it looks to be that way again in SMG2. But I guess the linearity helps make it feel more like it's in space. Also, I think it could be made up for easily with Yoshi.
Yes, yes I would lol. Though I wouldn't use the word accuse lol. The Star is just the goal, it doesn't matter if its a flagpole, a star or Mario dropkicking some random guy at the end of every level. There's is a basic template to a platformer, its about clearing obstacles as you go from point A to point B. You cant change that format without changing the genre completely and hence changing Mario. The settings may change, the goals may change, but a platformer a,k.a Mario at its core cannot change or it would not be a platformer. Though in all seriousness with Zelda, it does something uniquely its own. If they changed the pacing and its basic progression mechanics, it may not feel like Zelda, but it could still be an action adventure game. Mario doesn't have that luxury.Eh? I agree. How much can you develop the guy and what he can do? It has to have some kind of template.
I think Mario Galaxy was one of the best games for the Wii, but I really wish that Nintendo made a whole new formula instead of outer-space and planets. I know that there will obviously be new things in Galaxy 2, but it from what we've seen so far, it's more like downloadable content to extend the gameplay of the original. It has the good old bee costume, theball you roll on,the same kind of atmosphere, etc.
Yes there are new cool things like riding Yoshi, new suits and areas, but I really think that they could've made a whole new Mariouniverse. Maybe a reason for them making a sequel to the old game was because the original was so successful? I'm not sure, but it would've been cool if Nintendo created a totally new formula, kind of like they did from Mario 64 to Mario Sunshine to Mario Galaxy, if you know what I mean.
Even so, this is the second major Mario platformer on the Wii and I don't remember if previous systems had that. I just feel like a lot of the things that I'll see in the new Galaxygame will be very familiar and it would be cool if we saw something totally new. Still, I'm excited! :P

Now that you mention it... It does seem like the whole "galaxy" thing is being milked  But its still going to be great.
I'm not terribly disappointed that the game is taking place in the "galaxy" again, but I did hope there would be a new setting for the next game in the series after galaxy. Cube_of_MooNYou do know that Galaxy can be absolutely any setting it wants right? It can use any gameplay theme its wants? The whole "Galaxy" thing is as flexible as having no particular theme at all.

Same thing with paintings on a castle wall, right?
