I've tried searching on google and on these forums, but there doesn't seem to be a definitive answer. Some people say it does drain the battery, so your best bet is to turn it off, however some people say it just turns the yellow light on until you actually use the wifi in a game so it has no effect on the battery. Does anyone really know if it does or not?

Not significantly. It's not actively using the wi-fi unless you have it on in a game or via the web browser/DSi store.

It does; how much, I don't know. On many other mobile devices like phones and stuff, WiFi eats up a lot of battery.

I don't own a DSi yet, but I plan on getting one soon. What is the WiFi used for?

I don't have a DSi, I have a DS Lite...but I can say for sure that it drains the battery life at a noticeably quicker rate. I was playing Animal Crossing: Wild World a few times now with a friend, and my battery would drain after playing for an hour or two. But it definately gets the job done, and if you are charging while you play then you can even stay connected for a while longer.
