well this all sounds like good news! I can't wait to take a crack at it when I'm done with TPEssian
Oh, if you sometimes find yourself swinging your Wii Remote in a Link(ish) manner; pretending to slice even though you only need to waggle, then you'll enjoy Skyward Sword. :P

With combat and items, not at all. They were excellently implemented and worked beautifully pretty much 100% of the time. With some other stuff? Definitely. Flying would have been so much easier without them, as would skydiving, swimming, and the numerous other minigame-type things in the game.

The skydiving was awesome. I wanted more of it. I wanted to be able to skydive by running off any cliff that was high enough, but it was limited to only a couple spots. The skydiving/flying off the tiny islands was smooth and flawless. The part where you skydive off the waterfull in skyloft was so much fun I wanted to do it everywhere. I wanted to skydive off the volcano, the giant tree, down to the bottom of the sealed grounds, and off the top of the desert temple. It's just an awesome way to travel. Link just needs a glide suit. But hey, maybe for another game...

Love Zelda, played almost every game in series till this point. Hate motion controls with a passion that defies reasoning. ...did not and will not buy this game or any game that forces motion controls

So you have no reason

that particular mindset lacks what I would call valid reasons ...you are free to extrapolate from that what you wish

I didn't have trouble with flying, it was just inconvenient and pointless to control it that way when there is clearly a superior control method called the joystick. >___>

Seemed on par with joystick control as far as accuracy is concerned, with the added novelty of 1:1 motions. It would have been a missed opportunity to not control flight with the M+.

The controls turned a game that would otherwise be regular (kind of linear and a disappointing overworld) into a great Zelda game.

Yeah I loved the controls in SS and they would be my prefered fighting controls for a new Zelda game. They weren't great for swimming/flying but that wasn't too much of a pain. The worst part of the game for me was the fact that the stuck an overworld on, hope they ditch this in future games.

I hope they don't diminish the motion controls in the next one. It definitely needs to evolve though.

They were fine. For this one game.

The combat felt far too restrictive compared to older Zelda games.

Besides rolling bombs I had no issues with the controls.

it took the controls too far. having to use the motion controls for flying and swimming was annoying. I also did not appreciate the 1:1 sword fighting. The enemy AI didn't really react to your moves like in real life, as soon as you swung left, they would immediately block left. The combat just didn't feel realistic, and felt very forced. It was rather annoying and killed the game for me.

Yes, I liked the controls. Made Zelda a lot better imo and would like to see them return somehow for the Wii U version.

Don't want to speak for him, but I suppose some could call it "restrictive" because for most of the game you are forced to defeat enemies with the sword and shield only. In my opinion this is not a bad thing, but I know some Zelda fans like to get "creative" and find funny/interesting ways to defeat the common enemy.

Every enemy very clearly telegraphed how you should swing the sword to kill them. Add that with the fact that they only for the most part came after you one at a time. It almost felt like the boring Assains Creed combat.

This killed any sense of satisfaction figuring out how to kill them or any tension in battles. In Wind Waker I could pull of so many moves quickly that it made that Link feel bad-ass. SS's controls had simply worn off it's welcome after the first 30h or so. They were still fun don't get me wrong but it became stale.

Even though you could do some really interesting things with the GamePad I prefer wm+

Let us keep the controller on the table in front of us for things like taking notes and maybe even more interaction like have entire mini games based on it.

you could defeat most enemies in a few different ways.

I absolutely hate combat in skyword Sword. You have to either strike vertically, horizontally, or thrust enemies. And you have to be very deliberate. It doesn't feel intuitive at all and you have to react quickly before the enemy strikes. You think just moving the wii mote in a horizontal motion does it but it always **** up. You have to make sure the sword is to the side and slash it through very deliberately. It can be really frusterating although rewarding when you do get it to work. Plus Link looks like a **** **** with how he carries his sword in dungeons. Plus, too much is motion control and it feels heavy. Looking up takes too long and having to do everything in motion control is a pain.

I think overall if benefits from motion controls. It has a few issues in the game, but for the most part I thought it worked rather nicely.
