Does your 3DS do this too?

The hinge seems a bit loose on mine. I can shift the top screen left and right a little, and on the left side, I can slightly pull the screen up and down. Also, sometimes the top screen's hinge rubs against the edges of the hinges and creates a sqeueaking noise. Does this happen to any of you?

They did that on purpose. If the Hinge was uber stiff then it could easily break. Alot of DSlites had this issue so they aleaved it by making it a bit loose. it is normal, dont worry.

Yep. Supposed to have a little play. The ones that are really stiff are actually the ones w/ a problem. That said, my hinge moves a little bit but it definitely is not enough to affect gameplay at all. If yours moves around to the point where it's irritating when you play, that might be abnormal.

Hopefully it won't pave the way for worse things.

Yup, my 3ds does the same thing too and I freaking hate it. Every time when it makes that squeeking noise, it's pretty much rubbing off the paint(as you all can see in the picture where I specifically circled and marked) from the corner of the hindge. You don't really see the paint being scrapped off because the picture quality sucks, but yeah you guys should have a general idea of what I mean. So pretty much as of right now, that part that is circled is becoming white, soI mightbuy another one. =(

That's a common thing i suppose, they leave space for possible friction do you don't broke it too easy, but the noise might be a problem, i think you should call them for a inspection
