Haha, I have a story involving my DS being in some way harmed. Aye, 'tis a story of irony and clumsiness (but mostly clumsiness :(). Alright, so one day I had my DS sitting on a table, and I also had an open glass full of juice on that same table, and I though " Huh, I'd better move my DS, lest that juice spill and drench my hand-held console." And sure enough, as soon as I move my hand to grab and take my DS off of the table, I bump into to glass and SPILL THE JUICE ON THE DS!

Haha, so there's my story. It's pretty funny when you think about it: I ended up harming my DS by trying to help it.:?

Oh, and for the record, my DS works fine. But in the winter, when it gets real cold up here in Canada;) , the shoulder buttons will get sticky and unresponsive.

The worst I've had happened about three years ago. I had the orginal DS and I had loaned it to a friend of mine for the weekend. He gave it back to me right before school started so I didn't have to time to look at it before class. As luck would have it, that day was one of like three days we didn't do anything in band so I decided to play some games. When I took out my DS I found a giant crack on the top screen and a black blob thing(coming from the crack). It still works fine and I could play GBA games on the lower screen and everything. I ended up giving it to said friend when I couldn't sell it and I bought a DS lite. I'm still kind of ticked I didn't check it when I got it back, even though I figure it probably cracked in one of our backpacks.

Moral of the story: Check you stuff when you get it back from friends. Just in case.

The trick is this:

If the device is powered on and hits the water, it's almost guaranteed to be toast.

However, if the device was not powered on when it came into contact with water and you allow it to DRY COMPLETELY before applying power it can still function.

[QUOTE="Minishdriveby"]

[QUOTE="Wiz007"]Makes you wonder if you could have caught the Grouper fast enough, could the DS had been saved & playable?GabuEx

I think the DS would have been fried when it hit the water.

Not necessarily, actually. Water acts as a short circuit, which means that a water-logged electronic device will obviously not function properly. However, if you allow the water to dry, it may function as normally with the short circuit removed. That happened to me once; I got water in a controller and it stopped working, but when the water dried it was fine again.

I like the dog story best. (G)

******************

Read an interesting article the other day about cel phones and water and figured this would probably work for wet DS's too.

1. DO NOT TURN ON

2. Remove battery

3. Blow dry on LIGHTEST setting

4. (and this is the weird bit but probably would work) Put small amount of kitty litter (clay type) in bag and set the phone/DS etc. on top of it. Seal up the bag and leave for 3 days. This should thoroughly dry out everying.

im surprised with the couple of stories with people bringing it on a small canoe or boat. i'd NEVER bring anything electrical on something like that, there's no safe place. in the middle of the sea on a small boat, no way.

anyway, nothing that bad has ever happened with mine, i guess the worst would be when i was playing at home sometime, my cat jumped up on me just for some attention, and it started rubbing its face on the ds, which i didn't care, untill it started biting the corner of it... which left a bunch of dents.

I bought a pearl white DS a while ago and started buying games rabidly. I bought one of the soft zipper cases for it which fits 2 3-game cases in it. I had my DS and 6 games in the case, brought it to my moms house one day and totally forgot about it being there, i got wrapped up in some other stuff and didn't even consider it for about a month. I went back to my moms house to look for it and could not find it. I tore the whole house apart, every stupid longaburger basket my mom stuffs with crap, every cardboard box and plastic safe and couldn't find it anywhere. Previously I had cracked part of the case on the inside edge of the touchscreen side because my grimey hands had gotten dead skin wedged all down in it so I tried to clean it out with my finger nail and cracked it. I never found the DS or any of the games I had for it. I went and bought an onyx one as soon as it came out and had to repurchase all the games I had lost. Also, I seem to misplace games all the time and they dissapear into that 4th dimension that lost things go into.

Well, I was in china the 1st or second time, my ds was in my pocket and basically what happened was my familly got on this raft sort of a thing (a rectangle entirely made of bamboo) that floated ontop of what seems like a 10-13 foot river? So anyways the chinese paddlers where doing their job and paddling when the dude in front asks if I wanna try. I was about ten at the time (im 13 now) so I said sure. I took the paddle and tried to paddle but it got stuck between 2 rocks or sand or something all the meanwhile the bamboo thingy is still prgressing . So basically i kept on pushing and i flew into the water...(LOL) had to get a new ds...
