No, it doesn't come with one, but I would suggest putting one on, even if you're careful with your DS. When it comes down to it, I would much rather replace a $6 screen protector instead of a $130 DS Lite
A lot of the protectors do blur your image or distort your colors...mainly the ones you would find at Best Buy, Wal-Mart, etc.
But, there is a company named Hori that manufactures absolutely crystal clear screen protectors. I've had the same Hori protector on my DS Lite since day one and I still don't have a single scratch on my screen. Here's where you can buy one on Amazon:

kthx, i'll be careful with my DS first, I'll see if i really need one later on.eddiemon
You'd be making a mistake.
The best time to get a screen protector is when it's new. Too many times on this forum have I seen posts asking how to clear up a scratched screen or someone asking if a protector will help reduce scratches. It's a one time ten dollar purchase that makes you 100% that for the life of the DS you'll never have a scratch.
That's the one I got from Decalgirl.com, the link is HERE
The Hori guards are the best in the business and carry the Nintendo seal. There's no discoloration and there's no change in the pressure you need to play games. There's really no argument not to get them with a new DS.

As much as possible, get Hori screen protectors. If you cant afford to buy online, then you can go to Fry's Electronics if you have one near you, they have imported goods there. Hori screen protectors at Fry's cost $6.99. If you cant get your hands on Hori screen protectors then get Pellican screen protectors. I hope that helps.
I'd go with Ichi on this one. Don't settle for anything less then the Hori screens. Most sub quality screens use adhesive which means one try stick and if it ever gets dirty and needs to be washed you're out of luck.
Hori screens on the other hand are the clearest screens plus they do not use ahhesive so if you make a mistake putting it on or just want to wash the protector you can pull it off, wash/dry, and apply all over again.
