With the new console generation underway, it has come to m attention that the local Gamestop and EB stores here in Tallahassee, FL are condensing the less popular console and handheld titles to smaller spaces within the stores. The Gamecube sections are geting smaller, the GBA games are now on display in a glass case, and what's this I see? Nintendo DS cartridges in the glass case as well? That's right...the local stores have decided to start trashing the cases and instruction manuals for pre-owned DS games and "free up space on the new release wall for DS titles". I want everyone to go to their local EB and/or Gamestop and let them know that there are plenty of gamers who won't purchase a game without a case, cover art, and instructions. To some, this will be rediculous, but there are plenty of you who will be as outraged as I am. Now I do understand that there are some games traded in without cases and booklets, but let's think about this...why throw it away if someone is more likely to buy it with all the bells and whistles. Besdes, isn't it easier to shop for a game on the shelf with a box that has the title on it rather than trying to read the tiny label on the cartridge in a dark, glass case? And if you are unsure of a title, wouldn't you like to read the synopsis or see some screenshots? I know that's how I've always shopped. And I'm not saying that this is only going on in one or two Tallahassee stores. This is going on in the entire district down here. And it may happpen iin your stores if it hasn't already. Take a few minutes the next time you're in your local EB or Gamestop and tell them to inform their managers, district managers, and regional managers that we want our games intact.

Cheers...and thank you to everyone for their support.   -MBA-

Interesting, in my local EB Games the only games that they have locked away in cases are GBA and N64 games...then again this is in Halifax so it's probably much different

Holy snap.  Those crappy little blue boxes with the titles written on them are actually the for-sale condition of the games? :o

I thought those were just place-holders for games, like they don't want the game cases getting stolen or something, so they just put out those cases.

That's so lame. XD

It's not like that everywhere yet. But it may happen in your community. Like I said, I know it's happening in the district I live in here in Tallahassee, but I wouldn't be surprised if it happened elsewhere. This is more of a heads-up as to what CAN happen in your area, and a call to arms for those who already live in areas that have this problem. Again, I thank everyone for their support.

I live in Ireland and at my local gamestop all the Nintendo products are shoved into a corner while the X-Box and Playstation take up most of the store

You guys think that is bad? Here in Scranton, Pennsylvania, the GBA and older used DS games are'nt even in a glass case! They are in a art-box-type plastic container! There's no order in which the games are placed in the box, they are just scattered in there.

About 3 months ago, i went to my local gamespot looking for Warioware: Mega Microgame$ for the GBA. It was kind of busy in the store being a sunday afternoon. I asked the clerk where they kept their GBA games and he just handed me the container while he tended to someone else. I had to sit on the ground in the corner looking for the game. I was extremely upset. After about 15 minutes of shuffling through the games, I gave up looking for the games, left the container right there on the floor, and left.

While I hear where you are coming from psuedo trench coat mafia man, it's not the employees who have anything to do with it, it's corporate, so if you supply an email, I'd be happy to send them a message about...lots of stuff. The real way to make a point is to simply not buy the junk they throw our way.

Yeah... I don't really visit Gamestop often. Though the local Gamecrazy has ALWAYS had DS games in the glass case. They just do that for all retired or handheld game systems.

It never really struck me as a big deal, DS cartriges are durable (though small.) Now those poor, uncased PSP UMDs... they'll get all scratched up!

Bio_Spark

Not really. There is only only about a half inch or so of the disk that is actually exposed. Surprisingly they're pretty well protected.

It really depends on the store, at the EB Games I worked at...there was actually a significant amount of space given to handheld games because they were getting more and more popular. If any format is in trouble its PC games, which at most EB's don't even have a spot, and at our particular store it was on a steady decline.

The last time I checked, my local EB only has N64 and GBA games locked that in the little glass case.

Because unless you shop online (and like to pay shipping and wait a week or two to get your game) picking up a few titles for $15 isn't a bad deal. The problem with Gamestop is that while they have acceptable deals now and then, they are also totally overprice and rip you off on other games.

pleeeeeeeeease don't go to the actual EB games and Gamestop locations... They corporate stores and the people working inside it have nothing to do with how the store is arranged besides actually following the instructions from home office.  If you don't like it you'd be better off calling Gamestop Corporation and letting them now, instead of bugging the poor sales clerk...

and your argument might be: Well if I bug the sales clerk he/she will convey my message to their corporate.

Well the answer to this is, no, they most likely will not.  I'm 20, I work retail while in college as a full time student, and let me tell you that most sales clerks (i'm not going to say all, that way I'm not speaking for someone who doesn't agree with this opinion) absolutely loathe the average customer.

I stopped buying games from gamestop along time ago. The only time they see my money is if I can't find the game anywhere else.

I've worked retail almost as long as you've been alive, and you're right...the average sales clerk hates their job, but they do it to keep money coming in. This was not my point when starting this forum. I was only pointing out that in the Gamestop store district I live in, the district manager (whom I have worked for) has decided to start throwing out the cases for the DS games in the smaller stores that he claims need the room the used game cases take up on shelves for other product. I wasn't getting into a discussion about the practices of the company because I could type for hours on those problems. The only thing I was trying to bring to some peoples attention is that there are some District Managers and Regional Managers that are looking at the DS cases as garbage. All I'm saying is for DS owners who like to get cases and instructions with their cartridges to be on the look-out for their local stores to follow suit with the district I'm in. (After talking with the District Manager, I found out that his Regional manager had passed down the order to dispose of the cases if the stores were "short on space" and individual store managers would have to decide what was best for their particular store. I only posted out of concern for those of you that feel the same I do about having everything with their cartridge.)

I've noticed that too.

I saw a couple used DS games with a white paper over a DS box and it just says the title on it, or I've seen GBA games in DS boxes with a  print out as a cover.

These are the ones that are traded in without boxes and manuals. They are trying to do away with the white paper cover boxes for those traded in without cases AND getting rid of cases for games that are traded with boxes and manuals.
