OK so I bought Soul Eater for my ds and just for fun i put it in both my dsi and 3ds and they worked just fine. So why does everyone keep saying it won't work when it did for me? Will it screw up my system or is it just that my dsi and 3ds aren't region locked? I would like to know so I don't mess up my system if that's the case.

DSi and 3DS are only region locked for DSi-specific and 3DS-specific content. Your American 3DS should be able to play DS imports without problems.

so in other words it's the game cartridge that locks the region, not the console itself. i always forget that.

^ This. And it's really a step backwards, especially since I import a lot of RPGs ...

DSi-enhanced and 3DS games are locked, DS games are region-free. So all region's DS games will work, but not DSi or 3DS.

Speaking of that, is Nintendo the only company that still uses region-lock? If so, this is pretty sad...

Anyway, it's nice to know I can play Okaeri Chibi Robo on my 3DS! I was only using my DSi so far because I thought it could brick the 3DS with region-lock or something...

Playing a Japanese 3DS game on an American 3DS doesn't brick the console, right? It just doesn't work?

Yes, they're the only one that still use region locking when it's so last decade O_o :P And yeah, it just doesn't work; it doesn't brick the console.

Region locking... Something I will never 'get'. Why would a company do something that limits sales of legit copies of games? Now I might miss another Fire Emblem game (3DS version)

I always wonder this myself. I assume it is so they can price games differently in different regions. If, say, they think Europe should pay more for such and such a game, they don't want someone buying up a bunch of US copies for a relatively cheap price and re-selling them in Europe below the European price. It seems to me though that this only has a negative effect on gamers and the positives for the game company seem relatively small in comparison. Maybe it is just fun for them to be a pain in the ass.

Yeah it really sucks that the 3DS is region locked if it wasn't I'd be playing MH3G not waiting to see if/when they release it in N.A.

Well all we now know is that Nintendo is sadistic... They are sitting there going, "look japan has this and you don't"!!! -_- Back to the past...

Only DSi and 3DS games are region locked.

I'm surprised you didn't realise this by yourself.

It's in the instructions,too.....
