I'm still on the second floor, with 0en.  Can someone tell me how I can heal without paying money?

You can't.

As I recall, there's a spring that recovers a bit of HP in the first floor, and it's on the Southeast side of the map. Good luck surviving :P

I knew I would love this game when I got my butt handed to me on the first floor.

Let's face it.  When you have trouble beating bunnies and butterflies at the very beginning of the game, you know you're in for a wicked ride, and the game isn't designed for the faint of heart.

I just mapped the whole second floor and decided to venture to the third.  Haha, stalker utterly destroyed me.  I love this game.  I can only completely laugh at how much I get owned, and interestingly, that's one of my favorite things about this game.  I can't remember playing an RPG this hard for an incredibly long time.

[QUOTE="dragonlife29"][QUOTE="Mana-Knight-15"]Yep, Etrian Odyssey is without a doubt the best RPG for the DS(Yep, even better rhan Pokemon and FFIII) and the hardest. IM ONLY ON THE FREAKING 8TH FLOOR!vanjamin

Better than me. So far, I'm only in the second floor. I've beaten two FOEs already...I'm grinding on the second floor right now and returning a lot to town and save...can't get cocky in this game, that's for sure.

i haven't even fought a FOE yet, but i got to the 2nd floor.  returning to town is sooooo important in this game.  i return to town A LOT.  i battle and find a few things and then go back to rest and save constantly.

I suggest you leveling up your party to atleast the 14s or 15s before fighting any FOE, I mean I beat a FOE at level 13 but just barely... leveling up is extremely important in this game.

I picked up Etrian Odyssey on its release day and have been completely drawn into it. I had already been watching it very keenly and now that i've gotten some serious time into it I have to say it is not only challenging but insanely addictive. The whole process of exploration is extrememly rewarding, especially when you know there will be something along the way that can beat the tar out of you. The customization system is also very unique and offers a variety of play styles. I tell you the open-endedness of this game is just great. I hope Atlus gives us more games like this in the future, the fps rpg requires a comeback!

Yes, EO has more than one save spot. The main one is in town, but the others are a little harder to get to. At the beginning of every Stratum, except the first, (1 stratum = 5 floors) there is a pillar of light that lets you save and-or go back to town, and you can go from town to dungeon via these "geomagnetic fields."

Of course, you have to reach 'em first in order to access them from town. ^^ And if you already knew most of that, then sorry to waste space. ^^;

By the way, I am currently on the 14th floor. My team formation is:

Landsknecht (45) Protecter (44) Landsknecht (44)

Medic (44) Alchemist (44)

I'm sure there are pleny of you who are stronger than me at this point in the game, but still, I rarely have problems, even on the lower floors of the 3rd Stratum, where I am right now. It's always been a plus for me to have an axe-wielding Landsknecht who knows Crush (the 45 landsknech) and a Sword-wielding landy with skills like allslash.

Oh, and a pointer to newbies of the game: have your medic learn revive and caduceus as soon as possible. Obviously, revive brings a dead party member back to life with about eleven or so TP. And since caduceus requires ATK UP at lvl 10, you'll not only find your medic knowing the heavy damage dealer Caduceus, but will have enough attack power to fend for him/herself! Yay!

Yeah Etrian Odyssey is good except for a "not so deep story" and having to go back to town to save every now and then. B ut its a solid RPG if your a real RPG fan.

When I play an RPG, the game play & battles are the most important factor for me. The story line is not a big factor at all. EO has a weak story line to say the least. However, I still give the game high marks for a very challenging game.

There's another Riviera game coming out for the psp? The first one was alright. Hope this one is better.

[QUOTE="mthe1337one"]IGN's review of it makes it sound pretty intimidating. i myself haven't even played advance wars due to the fact that i'm outright horrible at strategy video games. i'll have to pass up this game unfortunately even though it sounds like a solid title. still waiting for atlus to release PSP version of Riviera though.vanjamin

gamespot has the release date for riviera on psp as july 2nd. riviera and the possibility of kingdom hearts...and some of the sports games...is really making me consider getting a psp eventually.

Like I said, the story line is real weak. But it is hard fighting, you have to map as you go with your stylus & you need to return to town a lot for healing. I like a game you just can't breeze through and defeat each stronger monster as you move further into the game. In EO you push too fast, your party will die a quick death. Smart playing will not require much grinding, just to finish the full exploration of each floor will level you up enough. It is an classic style RPG except instead of roaming around an open world, you must explore deeper & deeper floors in a labyrinth.
Once you have finished every 5 floors, there is a warp that will allow you to enter at that point instead of having to repeat all of the previous floors.
