Eurogamer reviewed Mario Kart Wii: Link

Here's an excerpt about the mutliplayer that I found surprising:

"However, Nintendo has made a couple of strange and quite damaging decisions in multiplayer. Battle Mode features some great new dynamic arenas for both ****c Balloon Battle and a clever and entertaining variant called Coin Runners, where coins you pick up count as health. But it's only possible to play in red vs. blue team games; there's no free-for-all, which to our mind runs contrary to the true spirit of Battle Mode, that of the gleefully ruthless fracas. We were also bitterly disappointed to discover that you can't race through whole GP championships in multiplayer. Only one-off races are available. Hard-fought leaderboard battles with friends over four races have been our favourite way to play Mario Kart since 1993, and that loss will be keenly felt."

Why is Nintendo so dumb with their online decisions.. I just don't understand why they have to be so ignorant about online.

Japanese really don't care on online gaming unlike people in NA or Europe. I don't remember an online game except Monster Hunter on PSP, Pokemon on DS and Animal Crossing on DS that sold very good in Japan.

Yes but those games would've sold well anyway.

And I don't get why Japan should effect it so much, there are way more Wii owners in Europe and the US combined than in Japan so why should it effect their decision to put major online elements in the game because Japan isn't big on online, yet the major areas of Wii owners are.

Yeah, it doesn't make much sense!

I just got Brawl...and the online mode is very limited...sure it isn't bad, but it could've been so much more!

It's not a Japanese thing, it's a Nintendo thing. Sony doesn't fall short in the online department, and they are a Japanese company. Heck, I've been playing My PS2 online for years. Amplitude, EQ:OA, Tony Hawk, Gauntlet, etc.
