kinda like Castelvania Dracula X, maybe the enivorment is 2D, but Samus, enemies, and bosses are 3D, another example is the Sonic Rush series
sound good to you? on DS of course

I already had a feeling the game would turn out this way. 2D games are unfortunately obsolete nowadays. A shame, since I appreciate 2D games the most. By that I mean in art style.
I think that's a good idea! Looked and worked great for the Sonic series, so why not give Metroid a shot? Could apply the style to a Super Metroid remake or even an entirely original adventure.
DS' screen resolution is too small to warrant simple 3d game over detailed 2d imo. I'd rather something that harkens back to the day of pixel-art, sprite works (screw 3d pre-rendered sprites), and pushing the system hardware as much as possible with the art and subtle visual effects.

New super mario bros, sonic rush, pokemon platnium seem to pull of a good mix of 2D with some 3D grapihcs

95% of New Super Mario Bros is all 2d sprites, including the majority of enemies you come across. The only thing that's actually rendered in 3d in the game is Mario himself, a couple powerups, a couple specific characters we come across in every Mario game, and that's basically it. The rest is all tiled 2d sprites with some scaling/rotation effects added in.
