C'mon, are you REALLY asking this question??
Let's see... FFIV got a 9.0, FFTA2 only got a 7.0.
FFIV is a direct remake of arguably one of the best FF games in the main series. (1 transition)
FFTA2 is a sequel to a hand-held spin-off of a relatively good PS1 game that uses the FF namesake. (3 transitions, meaning the games likely get weaker with each transition)
These are two entirely different games we're talking about here and it's really your matter of preference on whether you like classic RPGs with great stories and characters or tactical games... But I think if anyone had to choose between FFIV and FFTA2, most would choose FFIV.
They're two really different games. One is turn-based strategy and the other is a classic JRPG. The longest one with the most customization is obviously FFTA2. FFIV's story is really great and it's a lot of fun to play (my second favorite FF after VI).
Just get the two.
IV FTW.
Awesome 3D remake of what is regarded by many to be one of the pinnacles of the series. If you've never played any version of IV before, the answer becomes that much easier. FF IV is a 100% bonafied classic game that shouldn't be missed by any self respecting RPG enthusiast. The end
