Hey, If I had to chose between Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest which one would you recommend?? I checked videos of both and dragon quest "graphically" looks more impressive. Hows the gameplay compare between the two? I didn't mention which Dragon Quest or Final Fantasy game because once I start either one I would like to play them all. So would you pick all the dragon quest games or all final fantasy games?
If we're talking ALL the DS games for either.. you have to go with Dragon Quest. The only Final Fantasy I found worth playing on the DS was 4. It was incredible however. There are 3 very good dragon quest games available right now (4, 5 and 9 - the game im playing right now). So basically what im trying to say is.. standalone FF4 was my favorite, and as far as series go, DQ easily. Multi-platform wise, FF still gets my vote thou!!!

Okay thanks man! I think I will have to play FF4 then.. I was actually checking out some videos and I remember playing it a long time ago when it first came out (for the NES or SNES??). I will definitely have to take a trip down memory lane :D Once done with FF4 I will start on the Dragon Quest games.. From what I read they are really popular in Japan. Thanks for your input!
They're both very different. Dragon Quest is more light-hearted in style, generally, and a more traditional-style RPG. Final Fantasy is more epic in scope, and aims for deeper characters and a darker storyline.
Actually, the Final Fantasies on the DS are very similar to Dragon Quest. Like the new Four Heroes of Light coming out. It's basically a remade old-school JRPG. You really can't go wrong with either series. It just depends on what you like more: Chocobos or Slimes.
It all depends on what console we are talking about here. If your'e thinking the DS, then I would recommend DragonQuest, especially the latest one DragonQuest IX. But if we were talking most other consoles I would definitely recommend Final Fantasy, but I'm a massive FF fan so I'm kinda biased 8)
Dragon Quest 5 & 9 are absolutely fantastic, that statement is saying alot since FF4 & FF3 are fantastic in itself. *cough* alsoCronodsadsaTrigger* *cough*
I'm guessing that we're talking about DS games here since this topic is under the Nintendo DS section. Anyway I highly recommend Dragon Quest V mostly because I had tons of fun with it (+50 hrs). Final Fantasy IV and III, imo were pretty decent, but comparing it to Dragon Quest V, I'd say DQ wins hands down. I'm not really sure if DQ IX (the one that recently came out) is as good as the previous DQ. It's gotten a lot of mixed reviews and I've never played it so that's a little iffy.
well i enjoyed ff4, but hated HATED ff3, and i did play dq mj and dq 5, but i just stopped playing them for some reason. What i would recommend is chono trigger, which is like a cross between the two. Also id recomend disgaea ds.
FF4 had more depth and was more enjoyable until the final dungeon - then it just became a grindfest and I promptly put the game down. If it weren't for the ridiculous difficulty at the end, I would've enjoyed it immensely.
But I have to say FF7 was the best out of those 3.

@peach79 there's a year from 4 to 5 and most likely from 5 to 6 and 5 came out earlier this year so i say it be out around march of 2011. with that said i been gaming since the 2600 days and being a huge rpg fan jrpg i hate wrpg games i played every ff game besides 10,11,12,13 the only great ff games were in the snes days 2-3 aka 4-6 i hate the ds ff games because of the horrible chibi look. dragon warrior/quest may have made less games then FF but are just as great if not better the dq games didn't start great intel 3, the first game like ff1 is more of a experiential game both broken and not much fun dq2 was good because it added in 3 characters, a warrior, mage, priest, but with dq3 added in classes both being male or female and around 10 different ones from odd ones like jesters to normal like warriors and a deep and long story and the dq games gotten better 4 being like a book with chapters and one of the hardest boss fights in rpg history, its a shame that enix gave up in N/A gamers in early to mid 16 bit days so we missed out on dq 5 and 6 maybe enix would have beaten square in the 16 bit days on the ds dq games are some of the best rpgs out there, dq 4,5,9 are epic masterpieces and should be owned by all rpg gamers and chrono trigger is a game thats a must own its still one of the best rpgs made
if just DS games, then Final Fantasy IV is my favorite out of both series on the DS. Awesome cut scenes, good story, good characters, etc. if you are talking all platforms, then obviously Final Fantasy since they have more games and obv a ps3 game.
First of all, this made me pick up dq 5 again, and im enjoying it. having a game on ps3 is not a worthy argument seeing as that game isnt very final fantasy because it is so linear. I hated final fantasy 3 because after playing x i thought id find myself playing a great story, when I come across characters with no background i disagree that its a"solid game".
