Nintendo Power gave the game an 8.0

They gave the first game an 8.5 and said "Although Excitebots is better in every way, it scores a tad lower due to today's stiffer competition (Namely Mario Kart Wii)". To me, that seems a bit ridiculous. They also marked it down a tad because "the points needed to unlock new bots and other items are earned at an annoyingly slow pace".

However, they had nothing but praise for it's extremely high speed, off-the-wall-crazy gameplay. They also said the controls are much more workable than Excite Truck's somewhat unforgiving control scheme.

Notably missing from the review was how well the online multiplayer works. They said they weren't able to givethe onlinea go in time for the review. That means that, if it's really good, they probably would've marked it up a couple points.

I was expecting a tad higher, but I still can't wait for this game. I can't get over the sheer craziness of it!

For the definition of arcade racing I would never want to see a review without the online play included.

Either way the score sounds right. I never expected this game to be in the 9s.

Anything from 8 and above shows this game lived up to its expectations.

My only problem with the game is that the visuals are not much improved and even use some of the same track from the first one.

It is a little weird and the game kinda of needed a facelift in terms of visuals.

My first review I wait for for Wii games is IGN. They explain all the features in the game and they make sure the game is examined in every aspect.

So instead of waiting to review the full game, they reviewed part of the game? Awesome.

Esp when online play is integral to an arcade racer. Imagine nreviewing Mario Kart Wii without the online.

Yeah, in terms of thoroughness, they are by far the best. Probably my favorite site for reviews. Gamespot is just always so behind.

I concur. Seeing as how the first one got about the same score, and how they can tend to overrate things (any Sega game for example) I'll wait for another source.

How can you tell if the controls are hard to use or not? The review specifically said they were better then the game you praised, I truly doubt videos will be able to show off how hard the game is to use(and I assume that's the only way you've seen the game, through videos)...it really sounds like you want to hate the game just to hate the game.

IGN? No they did not. Thats why they gave MKW an 8.5. They said it was great and here is proof:

http://wii.ign.com/articles/868/868012p1.html

"And then there's online. If your Wii is connected to the Net, Mario Kart is a must-have addition to your library, plain and simple. While split-screen three/four player multiplayer suffers from a drop in fluidity from 60 to 30 frames per second, online blows it out of the water. Connecting is easy and pretty fast overall, and connecting to rooms is seldom an issue even through our annoying firewall here at IGN. Once in games, the framerate never drops below 60 for us, and the mix of ease, speed, and options online makes it hands-down the best Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection game out there. Where Smash Bros. was a huge letdown for many online players, but a must-play locally, Mario Kart Wii's online far surpasses the offline experience, and there's more reasons why then we'd care to list. "

Or are you talking about Nintendo Power? EIther way its not god to ignore one of the biggest feature of teither game.

The game looks awful? More like Excite Truck + if you use actual logic. Hard to control? I guess Excite Truck is even harder to control since Excite Bots has improved controls over Excite Truck. Excite Bots is $40 without a Wii Wheel, and $50 with a Wii wheel. Excite Bots also has online. So go ahead and spend your $20 on Excite Truck, when Excite Bots is clearly a much better buy, and better game.

Don't worry about the impact of that comparison. Watching the vids of this game convinced me to buy it, even though I'm not at all interested in Mario Kart and never was in Excite Truck.

I might be mistaken, but I believe this game is motion controlled only. If it controls as good as Mario Kart, why would you even wanna play with a cube controller? This is a different game than Mario Kart. A traditional setup would not do anything special for this game. In Mario Kart the traditional control scheme allows tricks and wheelies to be done easier, as well as centering your vehicle. You don't really have to worry about that with this game, drifting is automatic and pretty simple as well. The only other time motion is used is for the bars.

I'm not really much a fan of this bot business. I was hoping for another Excite Truck with some actual lifespan and online play, which this appears to do, but then I get some odd gimmick thrown in that wasn't really asked for in the first place. Oh well, i'll read a few reviews and watch a few videos before deciding on what to do...

I don't understand how this isn't another excite truck, just because its using different vehicles, that drive exactly the same as the trucks did in Excite Truck. This is excite truck with more ways to get stars and faster gameplay as far as I'm concerned.

They couldn't go into online? Then they should have waited until they could cover that until they reviewed, because now they're their review is incomplete and not entirely fair.

Yeah, the game sounds better in pretty much every way to the first one. I'm pretty intrigued. It is weird about their scoring system though. I thought games were judged based on their merits, not on previous games and current ones....

Nintendo Power is a bit silly sometimes. I like the magazine, but their scores don't always reflect what the actual review says. I think all they were saying with this one is: it's good, and it's better than the first, but we didn't like it as much as Mario Kart Wii. That's all they're saying.

It's definitely still on my list.

However, if that score was from a Gamespot reviewer I'd be excited about it, but Nintendo Power gives plently of games an 8 or higher.

I bet the GS and IGN scores will be more in the 6.5 - 8.0 range.

I'll still get it, though.

GS absolutely bombed the first one. I think they gave it like a 5.5 or something. If Bots even get's a 7 I'll be surprised. To be honest, I gave up on GS's reviews a long time ago. You know, when they stopped reviewing games.

Or most of the good ones fall in to the 7 and below club.

Gamespot reviews are kinda a joke. Tony Hawk gets 10/10 up with OoT, and Mario Kart 64 gets... 6.4, I mean wtf
