While Nintendo could have used several other methods to group NWFC users (Like maybe their Nintendo Power Log-in information) Friend codes aren't that bad. I use Xboxlive but sometimes get matched up with "retards" who cuss and spam. FC's get rid of this annoyance. I do not think FC's are ruining Nintendos online experience...not having lobbies, voip, games with online available worldwide, and being super conservative with online even when Friend Codes are used...(For Example..Mario Strikers has no option to communicate with your friends over the Wii) is hurting Nintendos online-ness. I still love the big N but I want them to wake up. Madden 2008wii should be a step in the right direction ...I hear it has a lobby system and mii integration =}

The only reason people hate it is 'cause they're ignorant and don't know they can do Random Wifi battles WITHOUT friend codes. Or the fact that there is a seperate friend code for every game.

They aren't that bad, but it does annoy me when fanboys try to argue that they're good.

Strikers and Pokemon will have their own seperate Wii Friend's lists and codes. So you'll have to bang the numbers in again to play with friends, I can't believe people find this anything but a retarded system for playing with buddies.

Even though the wii friend codes aren't horrible, I would still like to find an easier way to play with only my friends.  I would like it to be simialar to xboxlive without voicechat.

There's your Wii number....and all Wii games will also game specific codes you'd need to add for any friend you want in THAT game.

If that's true, what the hell is Nintendo doing?  How can there be so many variations on how to play online with the Wii?

Why doesn't nintendo intergrate online with the parental lock. Say your kid is 7 put the parental lock on and bam safe gaming. Isn't that the whole reason nintendo stayed with the Friend code, for Safe gaming? they need to work on it, I hope they have a good online play by the end of 2007

Friend Codes are horrible. That doesn't = any online Wii game to have bad online. Random battles and matchmaking are still possible on it. The DS has already shown this.

No, you only enter the friend code once for a game.  If Nintendo did it so that the Wii Console Code was what is used for all games instead, then Friend Codes would just be like have a username on Xbox Live.  The thing is, I do not think Nintendo is making it mandatory to have a different Friend Code for the game, just mandatory to use friend codes.  If that's the case, 3rd party developers should just use the Wii Console Code, unless of course they do not know how to, which would be the problem.  Buf if they use the Wii Console Code, it would be just like having a username on Xbox Live and not be as bothersome.

I personally don't like the friend codes, but I don't hate them. I just wish the friend system worked more like Xbox Live's. You know... without having to enter a bunch of numbers.

You know how the Wii has the Address book for your friends Wii Console Number?  Well it works the same way in a game.  The game keeps an address book of friends code.  It's similiar to AIM or MSN.  When you add a buddy, they are saved so that they are always in your buddy list when you sign on again.  Even after you turn the Wii off, next time you start up a game, the friend code will already be there.
