Adventure games are expected to have good stories. That this one doesn't is a bit of a letdown.
Anyway, 8.5 is an excellent score. I hope this ends all whining that Gamespot is biased against Nintendo. Not that I think it will.

8.5 seems like a good solid score but I have to disagree that adventure games are expected to have good stories. The Monkey Island games did not have very good stories, but they were very funny and had excellent puzzles.
I do think 8.5 is a good score. I just have trouble with the reviewers being so quick to downgrade for story while acknowledging that it isn't that important to the game. The voice acting is a bit lame, but maybe understandable.
It sounds to me like this is a point n' click adventure game. A genre that has been sorely lacking as of late and fits like a glove with the Wiimote. Downgrading for a "farfetched" story on this game is a bit hypocritical when reviewers are so supportive of a story about a satelite weapon designed by aliens and overrun by even more aliens with very little to connect level to level (Halo anyone?) OR a futuristic world is at war when highly intelligent machines decide that they no longer want to serve humans leaving the one good machine created by a benevolent dr. to destroy the evil machines and gain their powers (megaman).
I imagine that the 8.5 is more of an overall feeling than a product of deduction from the story and sounds, but it would be more beneficial to not see these things associated with the BAD list if they are really only a small part of the story. It's not the score, but the presentation that is causing these issues. Personally, I haven't had a good point n' click adventure since Lucas arts was in the Glory days of PC adventures. This is going to enter my collection, probably very soon.
Awesome, seems like a great game. My wallet keeps suffering.. November will be the end of me..
EDIT: Guess I'll have to wait with this game, though.. For some reason, the game costs 85 bucks here in Sweden. That's even more than MP3 and Mario Galaxy. With all these upcoming November-games, I can't go and buy games for this ridiculous price..
[QUOTE="Mr_Apple_Soup"]ARE YOU JOKING?? they couldnt find something bad so they put WEAK STORY!?!?!?
im sure SPM got an 8.8 for its gripping story aswell...weak story?? wow.....

What's wrong with an 8.5? It's considered "Great" by GameSpot's standards, so what's the problem here?
8.5 is a great score, BUT why dock so many points for story and voice work? Trust me, I like a videogame with a good story, but I know a majority of games don't have a good story, however I hardly see games getting docked so much for poor story. The difference between a good game with an 8.5 and good game with a 9.0 is story and voice work? That's overly picky or just GS being GS.
However, even if this game scored a 10, it's not a first day purchase for me. The game just never appealed to me. Maybe a rental would change my mind. That's coming from a guy who picks up any Wii game that GS or IGN gives an 8.5 to 10.

There is no problem with an 8.5 rating.
Some people feel the need to show "evidence" of Gamespot's "bias" by getting upset over a .5 difference even though the rating in question is in fact higher than the average critic score.
Exactly, the game is great just go buy it and stop ranting about it!
has anyone found the game in stores yet?lufaru123
Not yet. I actually reserved the game just today. Since today was it's shipping date.
Doesn't get to my gamestop until noon tomorrow.
I didn't expect much better. Not because of the game, but because of the grading. MP3 got a 8.5 and I really don't think this would have got anything better than that. I think GS compares games to each other too much. Very few Wii games get 9.0's and higher. I'm about 99% sure that SSBB will get a 9.5 or less just because it can't be better than Halo 3. if any game was better than Halo the world would surely end.Ospov
Lol. Yes, it would.
But, who knows. It was suprising it even got this high.
Can we use that first quote as proof that GS hates the Wii? They were embarassed to admit that this could only be done on the Wii.
Anyway, good score.

Wasn't surprising to me.Well. I guessed 8.0 max on GameSpot. Since. . . Yeah. > > MP3 and TP score. . .
only 8.5? are they joking?
Ign gave it 9.0 and said that you must buy this game...how on earth can you say mp3 and zak and wiki are worth the same? i'm sure mp3 is alot better.
*sighs* I don't like gamespot reviews...
