Guitar Hero four is being released as we know with a drumset with three pads and two symbols, which somewhat scatters the talk of guitar hero ripping off rock band to some extent. We arent supposed to post magazine pics i dont think but someone already did Here. Now if you look at the much less popular Drummania Arcade Game Drumset you will see GH4's drumset is a complete and utter ripoff. Just so you know it was made by konami so they should have no rights to it as far as i know. The only difference I see is that the GH4 drums appear connected. Thoughts?

I seriously believe that this game will be good, even though it may be considered a rip off of Rock Band. I would normally by Rock Band in this situation, but Guitar Hero IV will be more updated and not so much of a PS2 port like Rock Band

From what I understand, Activision has hired out the person that made the original arcade drum simulators, and now also own the patents to this kind of technology. Linky Link

Besides, companies historically rip off anything that works and does well. Essentially, you can say all of the home console experiences are rip offs from arcades, or PC technology.

It doesnt really bother me. Its the way things work, producs accumulate ideas and evolve over time, and we as consumers (hopefully) get a well rounded product.

If GH4 works well, and isnt gimped like the Wii version of Rock Band, I may well get it, though Im not entirely sold just yet.

To be honest I think GH4's main issue (at least regarding drums) is that the people willing to buy a drum set already have one with Rock Band, and I'm sure that, like me, plenty of people aren't willing to own two drum sets. With the guitar it's interchangeable (at least the GH guitar) but I see this being an issue trying to sell GH4.

The Wii is actually in a different situation. We all already own the GH guitar and we are receiving a watered down port, I am now willing to wait for a GH drum set.

I don't know if I'll buy the WHOLE thing or not. I say they release it in 3 bundles.

1. whole package

2. game with guitar

3. game alone

as well as selling the drum and mic periperals seperately. From what I understand, the new guitar will allow some sort of different input. They describe it as a "clear note" on the fretboard so I'm assuming that you'll be able to play open notes (just strum at the right time, no need to hit a button). My question is, if that's a feature of the new guitar, what about the old guitar wouldn't allow that input and if it isn't the ability to play open notes, what could it possibly be?

that's fine with me. Probably drops the price of the bundle pack a good 40-50 bucks.

There is a mic. "the next issue of GI allegedly confirms that, yes, Guitar Hero IV will introduce drums and vocals"

I love how the only way Activision can succeed is by copying off of the company that they screwed over.

Is that not how all companies work? I would rather have two options on the Wii, considerring how gimped our version of Rock Band is. Besides, Activision have been working on a Drum Hero for a while now, apparently, and decided to amalgamate the two games to better compete.

Competition is a good thing, in so many ways, and it gives us, as consumers, choice.
