Ok, now here's something interesting

Girl sees gun and shoots herself in the stomach. Considering she was 3 I'm surprised she even made it to the hospital without her insides spilling out

Just for reference

This is a Wiimote

This is a gun

So the mother says because they're so similar the daughter grabbed the gun and then because of all the games where you point the Wiimote at your stomach she blew a hole in herself.

HERE IS THE STORY OF WHICH THIS THREAD IS ABOUT

I think it was a plastic Wiimote casing that looked like a handgun, though - one of those lightshooter lookalike things. In that case I can understand her mixing them up.

I can't understand parents both leaving a loaded gun with the safety off on the coffee table and not paying enough attention to their daughter to see what she's doing. Idiots.

DEAR GOD!!! That is so sad. Emoticons do not express my feelings to this. You dumb*** motherf***** stepfather!!! You just leave a f***in loaded weapon laying around to where a 3 year old can get access to it!!! Get this guy on death penalty. No! Let him rot in jail the rest of his life so he can suffer the rest of his Earth life with this incident forever haunting him. Yeah, do that instead. Man I'm pissed.

THIS is why girls aren't gamers... all joking aside, thats truly terrible... but lets break this down Pheonix Wright style.

WTVF-TV in Nashville quoted Wilson County Sheriff Terry Ashe, who said the 3-year-old girl picked up her stepfather's .380 caliber pistol and shot herself in the stomach Sunday night. Ashe said the girl's mother was in the same room and the stepfather was asleep when it happened. The mother told investigators her daughter could have thought the gun was a controller for a Nintendo Wii. The stepfather told deputies he got out the gun because he heard a prowler, then left it on a living room end table. The child died at a hospital. Her name wasn't immediately released.Foxnews
So the stepdad hears a Prowler... takes out the gun... put it in a place where a 3 year old could reach it (which isnt THAT easy to do...they arent exactly tall) then goes to sleep? is that bull or what?

Second, the mom was in the same room as the 3 year old... yet did nothing to prevent it? maybe it was the MOM who was stupid enough to mistake the gun for a wii remote? and why wouldnt they release the name? and the duaghter supposedly shot HERSELF in the stomache? I don't know about you, but pointing a gun at your stomach and pulling the trigger would NOT be that easy of a task for a 3 year old, who would not quite have the motor skills for the twisting and turning and strategic pulling of triggers. I truly think that the parents are playing stupid to cover their tracks.

I'm not buying that as the real story, there is too many things that don't add up. I'm just gonna throw this out there. I think it's more likely the 3yr old was crying and the alcoholic, or possibly junkie step-father lost his temper and shut her up.. permanently. Some people are ****ed. Poor, poor girl I don't even want to know what's racing around in a 3yr old's head after being shot in the stomach. News like this is sickening to hear. The whole wiimote i'm assuming is just an easy way to shift the blame and to redirect the focus of the tragedy, and sadly it usually seems to work.

Uhm how many Wii games do you point at your stomach and pull a trigger? I mean what kind of games are these parents buying for a 3 year old that could possibly have similar motions? And how hard is it to not leave a gun lying around? So you hear a prowler...here's a great idea...leave the gun on the table so the "prowler" cna pick it up and waste your family. I'm surprised it hasn't been warped to read "Nintendo system Kills 3 year old"

You usually point at the screen not yourself, and that is just poor parenting having a gun any where near a 3 year old, let alone loaded.

sure... bc what is wrong what that picture is that the wiimote and gun are similar.. and THOSE so MANY game where you point the wiimote to yourself (which btw I have not heard about yet, despict being wii games for over 2 years and own quite a few) . Of course that is the bad part of this... Nintendo how do you dare!!! game community should be BANNED!!!

MOM.. a piece of advice... DO NOT LEAVE A LOADED GUN AT THE REACH OF YOUR CHILD!!! is freaking common sense... for all we know she though it was her favorite sound making toy.... sorry, for the kid that lost her live so early, but I have no good feeling for the "adults" taking care of that kid...

I`m a 29yo women with 2 lil cousins, both have a wii; my father always had a gun and we always had consoles when growing up.... and guess what else, my cousins and we had in common? PARENTS!!!

A young innocent child lost her live bc of they were no responsible.. (and I wish this would also make it to the news and they could read it) jesus christ, now at days I do not know who need the babysitter if the parents or the kids...

what is next? mom/dad is going to blame tv and videogame bc instead of waking up at the sound of the baby she/he drop hem down the crib bc they though the baby was the new puffed animal accesory for animal crossing :? ...

I knew that Wii games were immersive, but I didn't know they were thatimmersive. What were her parents thinking when they left a loaded gun out in the open with a child nearby? :?

My thoughts go out to the family. Hopefully, people will learn a lesson from this news and stop leaving firearms in easy access to people who are clearly not supposed to be anywhere near them.

it would be impossible for a 3 year old to pull it off of safety. I have a thumb that was broken and never taken care of and years after I struggle with taking my weapons off safety. It cannot be the story they gave. No responsible gun owner, or sane human being, would ever leave a weapon off safety and with a child's reach. In the Army everyone is trained to not take the weapon off safety until we are going to fire, I know not everyone has this training but I'm sure you need to know this stuff to own one. I actually have experience with only military grade weapons, so I don't know that much about weapons in the civilian world. I am still of the opinions that babies with guns don't kill people but parents with guns do.

Just wait for the "Wii is violent" anti-video game comments to come flying out, despite this being the dumb stepfather's fault. Apparently he must not care for the girl...unless he left it there on purpose. Wouldn't it be hard for a 3 year old to shoot herself in the stomach like that?

For making a child with stupid ****ing parents shoot herself, thinking the gun was their controller? No dude. Who the hell knows what the child thought the gun was anyway? It's an equal chance that the ones making the remote to their TV to get sued. If anyone should be sued, it's her bloody parents.

My heart sank when I read this. You know, the worse thing is that the parents aren't focused on the fact that they lost a little angel. The Wiimote arguement is bunk. Ever since that kid got shot by a police officer while playing with the orignal gray light gun back I don;t know how many years ago, video game companies have made their guns in a way that they can never be mistaken as a real gun. Maybe, and I make myself sick considering this even as the most unlikely scenario, the gun was a special hand gun I know manufacturing has been making for women, different colors and everything. Let's face it though, it was sheer stupidity. I hope the poor little girls memory burns a hole through those rotten parents insides. My heart goes out to that girls family who actaully cared enough to not be so reckless...

They won't, they didn't make the gun shell (there's really no point in buying one anyways.) This is more carelessness on the parents part.

Honestly, I think you guys are being too harsh. Thinking the parents might have shot their own child? Really?

As for the story, sure it's sad, but to say a 3 year old is not capable of firing a gun and which wii games require you to point the wiimote at yourself is just silly. She's 3 years old, examining something is not uncommon for a 3 year old.

Does this mean I'm with the parents? Hell no. The fact that they left a gun out with the saftey off where a 3 year old was able to get it is just being reckless. Blaming the Wiimote for the cause of death might be digging for explanations. Because it's not likely a 3 year old is going to be playing Wii in the first place. So it's more than likely just curiosity that got her.

I'm all for having a gun in my house for safety but that doesn't mean you should be careless with it.

While I do believe the parents' story is bogus, I can see how the child would be able to pull the trigger. I have a three year old and when we went to a birthday pool party last summer, there were some squirt guns the kids were playing with. My daughter didn't have big enough hands or the motor skills and strength to use them properly, but she still wanted so badly to squirt some water and kept trying. She eventually turned the thing around, with it pointed right into her chest, and pushed in the trigger with her thumbs. So I CAN see this happening. But I still think it's BS. Who just leaves a loaded, ready to fire weapon lying around when there's a child in the house. And what the heck was the mother doing? Probably playing the Wii herself and not paying attention to her kid...

water guns wiegh considerably less than a real loaded handgun though, there is no doubt that a child COULD shoot themselves with a gun shaped thing, but an actual gun is a bit heavy for a 3 year old girl to handle and shoot

Nah that's a little gun

More like an everyday gun that you can wear and it feels like nothing's there. A kid would be able to pull that into it's lap and blow a hole through it's middle easy with it. Very light and compact

I get it, its the fathers fault and games aren't to blame nor is the accessory manufacturer but it makes more sense why the 3 year old did it when you see how closely they resemble one another and you kinda come off sounding like you're saying not even a 3 yr old child could make this mistake when the mistake she made was very understandable as the two look similar

Based on the evidence, I believe the parents killed her. I hope they rot in prison.GamerForca
first they kind of need to be proven guilty...

THIS is why girls aren't gamers... all joking aside, thats truly terrible... but lets break this down Pheonix Wright style. [QUOTE="Foxnews"]WTVF-TV in Nashville quoted Wilson County Sheriff Terry Ashe, who said the 3-year-old girl picked up her stepfather's .380 caliber pistol and shot herself in the stomach Sunday night. Her name wasn't immediately released.garrett_duffman

Phoenix Wright style?! Hahah! You made my day! However, yes, it is very tragic that the 3 year old died. HOwever, I also see a contradiciton here. "So the mother says because they're so similar the daughter grabbed the gun and then because of all the games where you point the Wiimote at your stomach she blew a hole in herself." I only know of ONE Wii game where you point the Wii Remote KIND OF at your stomach, and that's WarioWare, the Samurai position. I doubt a 3 year old would know how to use the gun as well. Even if it is as simple as pulling the trigger.. I think the parents are hiding something.

I highly doubt that weak story will hold up in court. Logically, it shouldn't. Loaded handgun with safety off out where a 3-year-old can get it. Handguns are quite heavy and pulling the trigger is more difficult than you'd think (for a 3-year-old). Her mom was in the room with her.. watching this unfold? 3-year-old girl is playing SHOOTING game on the Wii, points gun at herself, shoots herself. Motive? Parents can sue Nintendo for a lot of money. Though I'd have to see the actual handgun (is that it in the second post of the thread?) before really jumping to a conclusion.

ehh... no offense but a lot of what your saying couldnt hold either. its all just specualtion. even if they THOUGHT they might have a case with nintendo, there is no way they could EVER have even the slimmest chance of sucess, so that throws out the motive. there is also the part where the daughter DIES. the ends dont exactly justify the means, in any regard. also, that plastic shell (the one in the other post that looked like a gun) wasn't made by nintendo, so theres that.

Three-year old curiosity. She had probably seen a gun before (pictures, TV, dad getting skittish about a branch scraping the window) but didn't understand that they shoot bullets that can kill you. "WHAT DOES THIS BUTTON DO???" is a common cry from children. It doesn't matter if it looked like a Wii remote to her..... She would know that it wasn't a Wii remote, so she was probably just like "I wonder what this thing that kind of looks like a Wii remote does!"

Unfortunately this isn't a simple "lesson learned" case. The parents should have learned from the however many other accidental shootings to not leave guns around. And the kid doesn't have the chance to learn from this mistake..... Sad. :(

Whatever my feelings are on this, right now I'm mostly just sad that a 3-year-old got shot. :(

Speculation? I thought it was their story? Oops, my mistake. And actually, the motive isn't thrown out because if they THOUGHT they had a case, then I don't see why they wouldn't go through with it assuming they're just bad people. Also, the father is her stepfather, not her biological father.
