I've been playing it now since yesterday. A lot of the campaign and quite a few online matches. And this game....RULES! One of the best shooters I've played. High production values and a serious amount of fun. Please play it!

Darth-Samus

Can you comment on the guy above saying the frame rate is awful online? I have the game right next to me but have not opened it as I cant play it tonight.

[QUOTE="Haziqonfire"][QUOTE="OreoMilkshake"]My god the online frame rate is so slow. :(NaveedLife

I think it depends on the map. It hasn't been too bad for me, it's still enjoyable and playable. Like Jordan said, the only map that was really bad was that nightclub one.

oh boy I want a confirmation on this haha. The framerate looked fine in vids I have seen.

It's fine. A tad framey on occasion sure. But fine. Completely playable!

haha compare it to playing another FPS? like does it seem smooth most of the time? I mean playable is kind of vague. IDK frame rate issues are always a bit scarey for me, I would much rather have worse graphics. I am sure its not that bad, but I worry :P.

You're right I guess it was just the map I played. Don't know what it was called though >_< looked like a freight place and had a bunch of tubes.

Played other matches and it was fine? Whatever at this point I am so stressed out right now (unrelated) that I am opening up goldeneye tomorrow and taking a darn break from everything lol.

Online is getting much better for me. I think the servers take a little time to really register who you are (why I couldn't find anyone in my region at first). I also think the Wii is capable of learning what instructions are commonly used and loading those in to the CPU cache for improved performance, but that can take a while. MWR had many frame rate hiccups and other issues when I first started playing it, bit those worked themselves out and the game ended up being fairly smooth. I'm hoping the same happens with this game.

I just had an error free online session and am enjoying the experience much better now. I can't wait until Friday so I can play all night long.

I usually don't play/buy many console fps games nowadays but I figured I would give this new Goldeneye a chance. Goldeneye 64 was the last console game I heavily played and it was quite possibly my favorite. I would literally walk two miles to my cousin house just to play Goldeneye64 before I owned it. Also I need to do something else with my Wii other than homebrew and netflix. So far it seems that this new game will be pretty good. I just have one big gripe about it: The controls. I knew it was naive to assume that this new Goldeneye game would be as easy to control as Goldeneye64, given that game controllers and games themselves have become a lot more complicated. I really don't want to "get used to" the control scheme of the classic/GC controller. Nor do I want to use the wii zapper/wii mote. If this were a perfect world I would be able to hook up a keyboard and mouse to the wii and play Goldeneye like I play my pc games or if this were an almost perfect world I could use my N64 remote on the wii. But this is a new Goldeneye for a new generation. Goldeneye 64 came out before a-lot of guys playing this new game were born. Damn I am getting old. Anyway I guess I will play with the control settings, of the classic/gc remote and/or look to see if an adapter exists to hook up n64 remotes to the GC/WII.

You can also use the N64 controller for this game also! However, you need some special adapter for that. The devs said that you can do that. So you should look into it. Also, it doesn't hurt to be a little more open minded about the other controls schemes. Wii mote pointer controls feel really great.

So basically you want to give up the easy wii remote control scheme for the awful n64 scheme? Now I love Goldeneye for N64, I played it damned near everyday when I had it. But the controls were far from good. Not to mention that the game relied on auto aim a lot while not aiming down the sights. To me, using the Wii remote feels more natural for FPS games than the N64 remote.

To the above poster, most modern shooters have auto-aim to an extent. Call of Duty and Gears of War are two prime examples. It's subtle, but its there because analog sticks can't replicate fluid motion.

Game Informer gave GE a mediocre 6.5 and said that CC Pro was the better controls scheme. Some people said they stopped reading after that. Now we have this magazine that give the game a perfect score, but tauts the CC Pro as the better option. I wander how pointer purist would regard this review? Anyway, the game is pretty fun, but could look much better.

HD comes first with Gamespot. Even 007 Bloodstone (for the 360) has a GS review already!

The quality of the game remains constant regardless of which controller you are using so score has nothing to do with that.

My guess is that these reviewers don't main Wii as it takes awhile to get good at it. It's not that they are against moving their arms or something but more like "it's notaccurate" or "it doesn't work well" etc. For example there where people who had an issue with the scheme in Okami as they couldn't even draw straight lines which I mastered after 5 mins of trying. Further evidence, well check out some Zelda SS videos and you can clearly see that some of these journalists have no clue what they are doing.

While Craig Harris on IGN who is only covering Nintendo games on Wii and DS, he says that the ideal method without question is the Wii pointer controlls. If you look past bias towards motion and if you ask people who feel at home with Wii, I think the large majority of those will say the same.

Well I wouldn't say HD but it's true that the priority list on GS is most likely going after what generates the most hits, not what "should" have been reviewed. This is partially why Nintendo coverage is dead here.

Kinect I can understand. However, GoldenEye has been hyped up waaaay more than Bloodstone. I'm sure a GoldenEye review (whether negative or positive) from GS would put the game in GS's top 5 popular games for a little while. Where as the review for Bloodstone has even landed it in the top ten. As I write this now a none reviewed GoldenEye sits at number 8 on GS top most popular list.

Well, I'd say they might be giving it a few days so they can properly test out the online multiplayer, but then again, they don't do that for the HD games, do they?

I don't understand how reviewers can feel good about giving out recommendations for which control styIe to use. It's obviously a matter of preference, but some of the reviews simply say that the Wii remote setup doesn't work. They don't say that they don't like it as much.... no.... they say it DOESN'T WORK. Which is simply not true. When reviews are meant for accurate info about a game and then the reviewer's opinion about that info, it doesn't really help the reader for the author to skip out on the info part and just give an opinion in PLACE of the info.

I read every single review of this game to try to figure out if the controls were good. That was the single determining factor of whether I would actually be able to stand playing this game, because iffy pointer controls completely ruin a Wii FPS for me. Not ONE of the reviews up as of Tuesday night gave me the info I needed. "You should use the cIassic controller" is NOT helpful.

I risked it and bought the game anyway, and the controls are great... after quite a bit of tweaking. I could never get the controls to feel good in The Conduit, but Goldeneye has an extra option that really helps - the max turn zone. It mostly eliminates the problem in The Conduit of no turn acceleration. Once you're out of the dead zone, you're turning at full speed, and that's just annoying. But it's possible in Goldeneye to emulate turn acceleration by tweaking the dead zone box and max turn speed box. That's exactly what I was looking for.

If McShea is reviewing it, I'd guess it'll get an 8 or 8.5, based on his brief impressions on the Hotspot. He was only into the first couple of missions at that point, but he sounded like he was really enjoying it.

GAMESPOT REVIEW IS IN!

Tom McShea reviewed.8.5

The gripes I have with the game are exactly what McShea mentions: Unksippable cut scenes (remember the ending of the Dam?) and quick time events shouldn't be there.

How do you set your controls? I need advice, but I think I am starting to get it down :). when the multi is not laggy its fun. The dam was a good opening (all i have played). I love this game and yet cant shake an odd feel :P.

Just for a bit of background, I love the controls in MP3 and Red Steel 2, so that's what I tried to match. Those are WAY too slow for most people, but I'm accurate with them and do pretty well in multiplayer, so I'll stick to them.

The main tweaks that REALLY made the controls work well for me were setting the dead zone to as small as it can be, making the max turn speed zone at 75x75, turning off the "look" option in the camera styIes section, and changing some setting (can't remember the name) from "Wii remote (X axis)" to just "Wii remote." That last one gives you control over looking up and down... not sure why the default is to NOT give you control, but whatever. Everything else was just a matter of adjusting sensitivities for axes and such.

When I first started playing online, the controls did not work well at all. They are getting better though. Much faster and more responsive today. Yesterday, I had everything cranked up to max and the controls were still unresponsive, buttoday I'm toning them down. I'm guessing there's a glitch. I've seen it with other games (settings don't always take).

I had auto aim and snap on enabled, and yesterday it was push button to win. Today, the auto aim and snap on don't seem to be doing anything (not that I really care -- I just wanted to rack up as many kills as possible).Either Eurocom is balancing out the control schemes or this game has a few glitches.

So far, online has been much smoother for me today as well (well, except for I'm not seeing my opponents very well, but there are lots of place to hide so that is probably me). Also, I kind of like the 4v4 for this game. Since it's more of a spy game than a war game, you don't need 64 players online.

I thought the X-axis thing was the camera style thing. I'll have to go back and double check.

[QUOTE="NaveedLife"]How do you set your controls? I need advice, but I think I am starting to get it down :). when the multi is not laggy its fun. The dam was a good opening (all i have played). I love this game and yet cant shake an odd feel :P.NaveedLife

TYVM! I changed it and it feels awesome, and I just found out that I can hold A down to lock my view...wow that would have been helpful :P.

Unfortunately, the button to lock your view is tied to the same button that picks up weapons so you sometimes pick up a weapon you don't want and end up getting killed when you had the advantage.

if you by chance get in game sometime and want to tell me your sensitivities that would be cool :P. I need to lower mine I think.

Horizontal turn speed is set to max. Vertical turn speed is something like 75% (maybe a little lower). Main dead zone is set to minmum. Those settings are not changing. I'm still tweaking sensitivity and max turn zone (which is currently near max). I had sensitivity at max, but now I want to lower it and like I said, the controls are starting to become much more responsive.

[QUOTE="1PMrFister"]

Escapist Magazine gave Goldeneye a score of 5/5. Something interesting to note is that the reviewer found the Classic Controller Pro to be the ideal choice.

Tri-Enforcer

Game Informer gave GE a mediocre 6.5 and said that CC Pro was the better controls scheme. Some people said they stopped reading after that. Now we have this magazine that give the game a perfect score, but tauts the CC Pro as the better option. I wander how pointer purist would regard this review? Anyway, the game is pretty fun, but could look much better.

I didn't find the game to be lacking in the graphics department. I think it looks pretty good, probably one of the best looking Wii games.

GameSpot gave it a 8.5 Though most of the footage used analog controls, which makes me not want to use them even more then before. lol.

RE: GS review

8.5 is a great score. I agree the single player draws you in and is challenging and fun. I don't think the controls are as good as the review makes them out. I am still tweaking them and not completely satisfied. It is nice to see that the better Bond Game came out on the Wii, but that is for a different board.

GS's review read like a 9.0. They're probably convinced me to have a good look at buying the game now :)

I was turned off by the controls at first, but now that I set things to what one of the guys on here said, it feels really good and much more like metroid prime 3 or whatnot. Bounding box as small as it can go, 75% on the max box, look (off), wiimote viewing (not just the x axis one), and tweak your sensitivies to what you like. It is far better then ever before!
