They implicitly do factor in controls. If the controls are great, the game is going to get high value, tilt, gameplay, etc. However if the controls take away from the experience, they are going to do the opposite.CKeur

Controls would fall under game play. If a game has a good control scheme it will probably have a better rating under game play, since controls directly affect it. Although a little harsh, Gamespot's rating system is very good as it is. You have to remember not only to look at the main score, but to read the text or watch the video so that you fully understand what makes the game worth playing, or not so worth playing.clarke0Exactly. It's built into gameplay. Controls by themselves mean nothing. Gameplay is your interaction with the world, which controls are the conduit for.
