GS should start rating games based on controls too.

...especially on wii, since a HUGE part of a wii game to be successful, is it's controls.

anyone agree? disagree?

Hey that's a good idea, never thought about that. If a game looks/sounds like crap but controls perfectly then it should get a better score.

They implicitly do factor in controls. If the controls are great, the game is going to get high value, tilt, gameplay, etc. However if the controls take away from the experience, they are going to do the opposite.

Yeah they do but if the controls are really good it seems to add very little to the game but if the controls have any flaws then they take away points heavily.

Perhaps that would fall under gameplay?

Regardless, good idea.

I have only had my wii for a little more than a day, but I would love to start with wii sports here.

Tennis: 4-5 everything you need to hit the ball back is here.   The power of you shot is great but trying to put spin on the ball is a role of the dice.

Baseball: 4-5 Wii Sports baseball is fine, but extremely simple.  At the best it is responsive. At the least it is boring.  Swing the Wi-mote hard and it's gone.

Bowling: 5-5 This is the game that convinced me to get a Wii.  Responsive to speed and movement.  That being said, movement of the ball in this game is simple.

Golf: 2-5 Bastard game of the bunch.  Someone that has played this way more than I have will contradict me here, but I can't seem to make the same swing twice to save my life.

Boxing: 3-5 Smack in the middle.  Boxing misses some of your punches and they hooks seem like they are by chance.

To go with being a one day Wii owner, I just signed up for GS.  I hope Gamespot takes note of this thread.  I'm sure they consider this as part of the rankings, just not vocally.  I have been a reader/lurker for a long time and really likethe people here and this place.  Wii sports is pretty simple. but it's the only game I have played in depth.

I agree on the basis that controls don't make the game. I love how Red Steel feels for the most part but the game itself is poor and badly made.

Tilt means how much the reviewer liked the game.

I believe controls are handled in the "gameplay" score.

Controls would fall under game play. If a game has a good control scheme it will probably have a better rating under game play, since controls directly affect it. Although a little harsh, Gamespot's rating system is very good as it is. You have to remember not only to look at the main score, but to read the text or watch the video so that you fully understand what makes the game worth playing, or not so worth playing.

Exactly. It's built into gameplay. Controls by themselves mean nothing. Gameplay is your interaction with the world, which controls are the conduit for.

Yeah Control scheme falls under gameplay and Tilt. Sometimes even value
