So I got my mailer for the Guitar Hero 3 replacement disc today in the post. Has anyone recieved there replacement disc yet? I am hoping someone can give some details about how long the process took and can confirm that old save data works with the remastered version. The mailer states that you shoudl wait 3-4 weeks for your replacement but I was hoping that this is the upper maximum.actionquake
Wait a second. Are they making you give up your copy of the game to get the stereo one? That's really unfair on their part if that's true!
You have to send in your original copy and then wait 3-4 weeks for a replacement. Which is why I definitely want to know that this version is 100% fixed and compatible with old saves before I send it out.actionquake
I know two people in the "real world", haha, that have it for Wii and I told them about it being in mono and asked them if they were gonna get the replacements and they both said they didn't care to. (They are both women in their 20s, so I don't think they care about the sound quality or even notice it). I have it for 360, but I still feel for ya man. That's a long time to not have the game and then possibly get it back and not have your save files. I would flip out!
Anyways, best of luck. Hopefully someone will pop in here with a solid answer for you. I haven't seen anything with my little eyes.

Why wouldn't it be compatible with old saves? You know how saves work, right? They have nothing do to do with the disc. All that they are changing on these discs are the fact that they are encoding the audio how it should have been encoded to begin with.

What, you expect them to just send out games to who ever claims to have a copy of it? It's not like the games came with a registration code.

He's asking that just to make sure because they could make another programming error that makes them non-compatible with the original save files[QUOTE="shark2k6"][QUOTE="actionquake"]You have to send in your original copy and then wait 3-4 weeks for a replacement. He's asking that just to make sure because they could make another programming error that makes them non-compatible with the original save filesObviously people do not understand what is getting done with these discs than. There is absolutely no new programming that is required. All that is happening is that the music is being re-encoded properly and than the disc is being "re-pressed" (re-burnt) with the same source code and the proper audio files. No programming changes, therefore no possiblility of anything getting messed up.

Take off the "re-"s and you're description will be golden. I kind of doubt they'd try to reuse the same discs, as the time to do that would definitely be more expensive than the cost of a new disc.

Well, they could do it through a Proof Of Purchase where you cut out the UPC on your original game case and mail it in with a form. I think you were just trying to trash on me and start a fight. Grow up.

Oh, symantics symantics :p. My point came across though, right? I understand thought why you said to take off the "re-"s, but technically the original audio is being re-encoded and the disc is really what would not be re-pressed. But it's all good.

I am pretty sure that they will have to add in the surround sound menu that they described in the manual and they haven't expressly stated that they are not going to have to tweak other things in the programming.
To be honest I am a little less than trusting considering that:
1)The Guitar Hero 3 box has Dolby Pro logic on it and the game is outputting in mono = my trust is shot
2)It took them a month to admit this, even though they must have known even before they shipped to stores
3)They took out the sound menu that is mentioned in the manual, suggesting to my distrusting mind that they had a technical issue with the sound -before- they pressed the discs and didn't have time to fix it (but had time to alter the menu's). This would indicate that the problem wasn't purely failure to press the correct audiofiles and thus may neccesitate changes to the programming.

I've played plenty of other Wii games that outputed in surround (pro logic II) but did not have a sound menu to change from one to the other. They chose the sound based on the setting on the Wii console for the output. It could very well be that they decided to take out the sound menu after they had printed all the instruction manuals because they decided to take the route I just mentioned. Just re-encoding the sound is a lot cheaper than adding a menu in(or back), so I doubt they would do that because they are already losing money on this.

You could always register it. Use your own envelope and send it to the same address. You'll have to pay, but you'll have peace of mind. Or you could just assume that since everything else you send through the mail gets there, this will too. Please Log In to post.
