Has Metroid 3 turned into a FPS and not a FPA?

I say this because at the Nintendo Summit Reggie said, as well as Iwata in that financial review interview, that Metroid 3 will be the closest to a mouse and keyboard setup as you can get on a console. And last I checked the mouse and keyboard set up is for your traditional FPS.

Ditto. Although... now that I think about it, I'd rather MP 3 be a FPS. I think it'd make it that much funner with the Wiimote. An actually well done FPS on the Wii! It'd be great. Plus online deathmatch? Game of the Century :P. (or at least of the year, lol)

or RTS' or TPS, or PAC, want any more abreviations?

mouse and keyboard works for a whole range of games, so saying it's the closest thing to a mouse and keyboard on a console, could only mean it's a traditional FPS is madness, it just means it will feel as free as they do

as console owners who play PC as well (like myself) often feel contricted by the analog stick setup

In my book bactracking, scanning and so forth means no, not a pure FPS anyway. But then again MPH is something I'd ceratinly call an FPS, arghhh! So confused. Multiplayer doesn't make a difference either.

True, I admit I didn't put too much thought into this post, just trying to pass the day. I just found it interesting Nintendo is boasting about the mouse and keyboard setup which is notorious for having superior controls for traditional FPS shooters, while Nintendo fans cry out all the time that Metorid is NOT a FPS but a FPA.

I'm curious though, is Metroid 3 going to have lock-on, becuase to me that is what truly seperetd it from the ideal FPS. The Lock-on made it seem more like you were using yoru mechanical suits ability.

Matroid of course on the DS had no lock-on and many considered it a FPS and a depature from the series on the Cube. Come to think of it, the story of Metroid 3 shares some simalarities with Metroid Hunters on the DS in that you will be planet hopping.

Anyways back to point, it would be odd to aim for mouse and keboard controls but keep in the lock-on system that plays a prominent role in Metroid Prime 1 and 2.

Any game that has the option of aiming for you is no FPS.

It's still entirely an FPA but considering it will be easier to aim with the wiimote it may have a larger emphasis on gun battles. Is that a bad thing? NO, because it will still retain the same fun puzzles with the addition of fun gun battles. I'M so excited for this game.

There are some FPA on the PC such as the original Half-Life.

Anyway n00bs want it to be a FPS, you know people asking it to be a "Halo-killer" or to add "online" *seriously a deathmatch mode for an adventure game?*

But the fans want it to be a FPA and that's what Nintendo's doing :)

If metroid prime 3 is more of a action game than an adventure, I'll actually be able to get into it. The reason I've hated the series was because you are always in a non-connected world and just explore everywhere until you fight metroid *or whoever*. I want something thats going to keep being exciting and not boring.

I own the first metroid prime. So you're saying that thing at the end isn't metroid? All the walkthroughs at the end say it is.

Metroids are a common enemy in every Metroid game, they float around and suck on your face.

I don't know, but...can't it be both?

I think it'll be the same game layout (adventure), with FPS controls (as in, more responsive than MP1 and 2)

GN Wii: Will Metroid Prime 3 feature an online mode?

Kensuke Tanabe: No, we have only single-player. I have also produced Prime Hunters and for that game I tried to use the Wi-Fi Connection for multiplayer. For Prime 3, I would like to concentrate more on the single-player so I decided not to implement multiplayer for Prime 3. As you know, Wii will have Connect 24, so we are thinking more about the possibility of using that functionality so that the player can get something.

That article is from over a year ago.  The game has been delayed for a while and who knows why.  One possible reason is to add online play.  Therefore, I don't find that to be a credible source anymore.

So it has been magically deconfirmed? Just wishful thinking. Many Nintendo games get delays.

Plus on the fact sheet, it clearly says one player.

But hey, keep thinking so if you want.

I'd be very pleased if it were still an FPA with heavy battle spots.  At least that way it keeps true to the search and weapons upgrades of all the past metroid games.  If they turn it into an FPS linear piece of crap, I will never buy it.

Excellent example.
I do recall reading somewhere a long time ago the Prime 3 would focus a bit more on the 'shooter' aspect of the game (which kinda makes sense what with the wiimote functionality)  But there's still a lock-on.  I can think of no traditional FPS with a lock-on system.  Kinda defeats the point of aiming yourself, although it does seem like more enemies have a 'dash' or something akin to a dash that lets the move quickly enough to break the lock-on.
But MP3 will still have all the main parts of a metroid game: strange puzzles, exotic locations, and backtracking.  The action level will simply be taken up a notch for the sake of more wiimote usage.
