Probably because its a cliche JRPG and everyone knows that IGN is a bit... loose... with their reviewsgarrett_duffmanReviews aside, this game looks good. And how come GS hasn't rated it yet?

how come GS hasn't rated it yet?LastRambo341poor kid. you think gamespot will review it simply because they featured the game on TOTS? ok that makes sense... but it's an obscure wii game. they won't bother with it, especially with the waves of well-known games arriving every second.
I was interested in it but than I saw the "NIS" logo. No way am I touching a game published by Nippon Ichi.

its not just obscure wii titles they dont review it took them a month to review HG SS the most anticipated games on the DS
I kinda doubt that it'll happen nowGS is pretty slow with their reviews... It'll be lucky if Sakura Wars even gets a review.

First of all, it's a PS2 game. It's a little early to call the review "loose". The Meta so far is 81 on the PS2 version and 74 on Wii. Sam Bishop does some work for the PS team, not sure what. Obviously it's a PS2 review.
Is IGN a little loose?
SMG 9.7 / Meta 97
TP 9.5 / Meta 95
MP3 9.5 / Meta 90
MKWii 8.5 / Meta 82
NSMBW 8.9 / Meta 87
SSBB 9.5 / Meta 93
I'd say GS is a bit loose.

How would GS be loose? they are critical on wii games...Well to be fair they have .5 rating system. I'm guessing that Navarro wanted to give SMG a higher score than 9.5 but couldn't because it's not a 10, so the closest score is 9.5.
With TP however Jeff screwed it up. He tends to review games subjectively. Come on, Wii sports resort 5/5 on Giantbomb? lol, then you ask why I don't like this guy...
Fun level =/= quality level.

I don't know why he gave Wii Sports a 5/5 but TP deserved its score. It was a port of a Gamecube game. And plus, the game uses MIDI for audio, has no voice acting and low res textures (they could have made the game look much better.). It's only natural he would give that score. And I know most Zelda fans (me included) can forgive all that, but you can't deny the game's flaws.
Jeff Gerstmann, Alex Navarro, Brad Shoemaker and Greg Kasavin were some of my favorite reviewers on GS. I wish they hadn't left Gamespot.
Do you think reviewers judge the visuals by screenshots? NoI also believe this game actually looks better on the PS2 judging from the screen shots.
zaku101
I'm actually on the fence about this game. I had it in my hand the other day but put it back and decided to read reviews on it. I'm surprised Gamespot hasn't reviewed it yet and IGN gave it a pretty good score. Plus the game is only 30 bucks so I am leaning towards getting this game.

Greg Kasavin is the best reviewer ever
I'm not a Zelda fanboy. I like the character Link more than Mario and Samus of course, but I've always liked the type of games Mario and Metroid are more and never been this huge OMG ZELDA!! guy. DS Zelda's and TP changed that.
The gameplay is around 9.5. Gameplay basically dictates the score of a game. Sound has very little input in this case, yeah ok -1 or 2 for MIDI but a sound score of 8/10 won't even touch the overall score at all. The story is functional, thus passable. It provides the theme needed for the implementation of the wolf and the gothic/emo theme. The story itself might be bad but that has very little input in the overall score.
+ The game innovates in controls.
- GC port
It has the innovation needed to push a high score, but lacks polish due to being a hasty GC port.
Zelda Wii is going to be _the_ Zelda game you'll see!

Really? think 1 step further.
GTA4 and SMG are two very high rated games, got similar Metascores and are considered of top quality.
How can a person (me, and many others) HATE GTA4 and LOVE SMG?
It's simple, you have to review the game for what it is, not how you percieved the game.
What I mean by that is, if you are into story/maturity/realism and against the opposites, then you're gonna love GTA4 and hate SMG. When I played through GTA4 I saw why these people loved it, I could see it right in front of me, but it just simply doesn't appeal to me as a person. You have to be able to see the world from different perspectives. I can predict easily if my friend will love this game, because I know how he thinks and can see the world from his eyes. Quality is thus based on general consensus, if you think that SMG was loved by all these editors on the sites giving it GOTY then you're out of your mind!

that's why they use demographics. Nintendo and Rockstar know who they are selling their games to, respectively, but they are still trying to broaden their fanbases. A reviewer can be unbiased and still find a game to be fun, heck, it's sort of their job to find a game fun. Both of those games did well as far as scores go, yet the same people did not buy them. People buy based on what they WANT to hear, not necessarily what they hear. if they want to buy a specific game, if they are smart, they will research it before buying, and then the research will either back them up on their position, or make them second guess. Reviewers are there to help push EVERYONE either to or away from the game.[QUOTE="garrett_duffman"] fun is a factor of quality when you talk about games... what good is a quality game if its boring? it sounds contradictory just SAYING that!kontejner44

Personal opinion. There are no winners and losers when it comes down to pure opinion. I for one, am not such a big fan of Mario. A game I consider fun is one which I can sit down and play regularly without losing interest.

lol, that was taken way out of context. I was discussing a game's quality, not the fun factor, which ofc is subjective.

Reviews are there to give an unbiased review of a game, often comparing it with other games of it's gen / genre / console. A "10" is not a "perfect game". There is no such thing as a perfect game. It's just that the game is innovative, polished and is one of the best of their genre. MGS4 is a 10 by all means, but that doesn't mean you can't personally hate it. For what it is, and who it is targeted for, it's a 10.
The cover makes it look like a sailor moon ripoff. I personally wouldn't give it a second glance especially now that I know it's just another port from ps2. It's disgusting how many there are. The only 2 good ps2 remakes i've come across are dbz-bt3 and okami which actually make sense to put on the wii because the motion controlls benefit.

If a person wants to buy a game, but wants to research it, they are naturally going to be paying more attention to the good than to the bad. The consumer is biased, whether it be through prequels or brand loyalty, or just based on seeing a slice of it somewhere and thinking it looks worth a buy. your first impression of a game will subconsciously rule through your decision making process. henceforth; people hear what they want to hear, not necessarily what they hear[QUOTE="kontejner44"][QUOTE="garrett_duffman"] that's why they use demographics. I am actually very interested in how the subconcious mind works and I think it exists, anyway :P ... That's why reviewers are supposed to be unbiased in their reviews and try to give us a fair one. For me, the function of a review is to be able to tell how the game works in a way every kind of person will understand how it will be and if they will like it. That's why I hate 'subjective' reviewers, because the only person who can interpret how a game is like from those reviews, has to think exactly the same way as the reviewer.
I can tell from good reviews, the text itself not score, who this game is for (well amongst the people I know IRL, or the ones I know how they think), I can extract every info avaliable about this game, without playing it. For instance, I called a goty based on a trailer once, and once based on a review. I don't have to play the game to know how it's going to be like. That's what reviews are for me, and I never get disappointed in my games, if I read the review first. This one time I just checked the score of Monkey ball BB here and on IGN + my previous experience with the games, I thought I made a wise buy -.- Also The Conduit hype disappointed because I was expecting Perfect Dark 2 :P
I started a thread on this game a while back. I was more excited for it before I saw game clips. Kind of wavering on it now. I still might check it out eventually. That girl with the southern accent has an annoying voice though. Not sure how much of that I could take.
Wow I justr checked out the IGN review. This is a 5 year old PS2 game? For shame. Even if it's a great game. I thought we were over that. The WIi is capable of more. Lame-o.
Yeah, I'm not really interested because it's actually a five year old PS2 game... Why not try making a new game for us, Nippon Ichi?
