For me, I was introduced to it by a friend. He said its great and why I don't play it. I said I'm not into handhelds that much. But he continued to persevere, telling me I should invest some time into it. Well I am really glad for that friend. I really enjoy my DS to this day.

But how did you get into the DS?

I got bored of my "other handheld" so I bought a DS lite then after a year or two later I bought a DSi, I'm planning on buying a Japanese DSi LL now so I can play those DSiware games that get released for japan first(but I'll keep my lite and US DSi).

I heard things about the DS, and I saw some guy at my church playing the original sliver ds phat, and seeing that, I really wanted one, but i couldn't afford it. I was about to buy one later on, but luckily I heard about the upcoming ds lite. I was excited about it. So I waited, preordered my ds lite, and that was how I got into it.

I just got it at launch. Best system I've ever had.

I have 3 DS's, and always offer my brother and friends (Most of them have one) to borrow one with some games to see how amazing it is, but they always refuse... They're into like FPS/Violent games kind of...

I only had one friend borrow one to play Pokemon Pearl, and he didn't finish it, but he enjoyed it.

I was heading off to Mexico to teach English for a year (three months in now) and couldn't take my Wii so I was looking for something a little more portable. My brother has one and I wasn't all that impressed, but when I started properly researching the library I was sold. It's fast becoming my favourite system purchase ever.

Kirby Canvas Curse to put it simply. Slightly more elaborately, I was really intrigued by that touch screen control so I had to get it to try it out.

I use to travel a lot and always left my consoles at home and wanted something to entertain me out there. So I finally picked up a DS at gamestop and ended up spending hours in a tent or hotel playing it. I enjoyed games like Mario 64 DS, Final Fantasy III & IV and Resident Evil 1. Now that I don't travel much I still play it on my free time or break.

I got tired of sitting around bored waiting on car maintenance appointments, or anywhere else where I'd have to sit around doing nothing while waiting. I'm not always in the mood to read because of too many distractions. I kept seeing things about the DSi through the Nintendo Channel on my Wii, and I also thought it would be nice to have a portable Animal Crossing game. I cannot be more than pleased with my DSi.

I am getting a DSi on Monday for my Birthday, and it's going to be my first one. My interest in it sparked about 3 weeks ago when I first saw it. Then I went on here, read about the games, and the online, and I was hooked.

Before this gen, the only handheld that I had was the original Gameboy, and I honestly didn't plan on changing that any time soon. It wasn't one specific thing that changed it, but rather a few elements that happened over a few years. I heard a lot of great things from people. There were a few games that I was interested in early on, and over a few years, that number has grown by a VERY large amount. Also, a few years into the DS' life, I finally read up on everything that the system itself had to offer, most notably the dual screen and the touch screen, and I loved the idea of both of those things. Then therewas a general change and growth in terms of my gaming preferences. Specifically, I opened up to a wider variety of game genres than ever before.

Overall, I simply grew into the idea, and got excited about more games for the system than any system that I've owned before it, or own now for that matter. Right now I only own one game for the system, since I just got the DS recently (like I said, it did take me a few years to get to the point where I absolutely had to get it), so I can't really say for certain where it would rank among the other systems that I have owned, but based on what I know about the games and the system itself, I can honestly see it becoming my favorite system that I own.

Warning: Long Story!!!

I lost my Game Boy Advance in 2004, soon before hearing about a Nintendo DS on television, and playing MPH:First Hunt at Wal-Mart. Anyway, in 2006 I finally got enough to buy a GBA SP, but I heard that Nintendo was going to release two more GBA games, and then drop it. So I returned it and got a DS phat. That was stolen. I bought a DS Lite to replace it, and that broke down. Sent it in to Nintendo and had it replaced, then that one came down with the same problem. Then i tripped into a creek with my Lite in my pocket, and now it works only sorta. So I'm gonna get a DSi to replace this one.

There ya go :D

I haven't played a pokémon game since back when gold/silver/crystal was released. So i thought it would be a good idea to get one now, play diamond/pearl and then buy heart gold/soul silver.

So treating myself to a black DSi for xmas!

My friend had Nintendogs and I was like omg that's so awesome, so I played his DS and Nintendogs for what seemed like forever and eventually I had enough money for a DS Phat :P.

Well 2 years ago I was looking to get back into handheld gaming. At the time the lastest handheld i owned was gameboy color. I orginally I was going to get the PSP but then my brother and other people told me that there is a limited gaming collection and that the DS was more fun. So I went on youtube and watched a couple of vid reviews and game plays of DS and i was impressed so I went and picked me up a ds lite (pink). and the first game I got was mario kart and cake mania.

2 years later I'm still in love with my DS lite.

I owned GBA and there were almost none of itw games in stores but there was always a ton of DS games. So I got it because of all the awesome games.

After that 3 of my friends got it and my sister and 3 of her friends because they saw how awesome it is 8)

Being the Nintendo loyalist that I am, I got it right when it came out regardless of the software available. I didn't play it much, and then it ended up breaking. then I got DS Lite. By that time the software library was much beefier. It has been my system ever since.

I loved Sims on the PC. When I learned that there were a couple of Sims games for the GBA I decided to get a GBA SP and the Sims games. I loved them. I got a few more Sims type games for the GBA (Harvest Moon).

A friend wanted to get rid of her PHAT DS as she was interested in getting the new Lite. Now this Phat was practically new, still in the box, she only played some Animal Crossing and wanted to get rid of the whole thing for $100 (including the AC game). I still have the Phat, am still happy with it. And I have quite a collection of Sim-like games - Harvest Moons, Rune Factories, Lost in Blues to name a few.

(Kinda Long)

I got a Gameboy Advance for Christmas in 1st grade. (my first game system) It was so much fun. But then my mom took it away and smashed it on the floor :(.

Then I got a Gameboy SP in 3rd grade. It was so much fun. But then I accidently left it at the library. And when we went back it wasn't there. (I wonder where it is now?)

Then I got a DS Phat in 4th grade. It was AMAZING. Best system ever. I had it for 5 years and still have it today.

2 days ago on Saturday I got a DSi. I'm still playing around with it, but so far it's AWESOME.

and that's my videogame life story.

Well I had been interested in it for several games, always wanted one, never played one well actually I played my cousins (Pokemon) and played my brother's friends DS so I asked one for my birthday (2009 January)... my nana and mom went halves on it and got me it. I got a PSPgo now, and to be honest I still love my DS more than my PSPgo. Cant wait to get more games for it (I have around 7-9 games).

I've always been a huge fan of hand-held gaming. Over the years I am sure I've owned almost every type of portable game system released(game & watch, tiger, gamegear, you name it...). A friend of mine convinced me that I needed to buy a DS so I ended up with the DS Phat shortly after launch. I then ended up selling the system because I wasn't happy with the selection of games in its first few months. After spending some time with "the other handheld", I did some research and realized all the great games I was missing out on. Since the DS Lite was due out that year, I decided to wait and buy one of those instead of the Phat (again). Only problem was the DS Lite was sold out everywhere near me and I had trouble getting one until Jan 2007 (6 months after its release in America). I knew an employee that worked at my local Gamestop and he had traded in his Onyx DS Lite that he had gotten for Christmas. I literally got a "used" DS Lite that was used once.

Fast forward to now: I have over 260 boxed games, 13+ DSiWare games, a Black DSi, Polar White DS Lite and a Silver DS Lite. I traded in my Onyx Lite toward my DSi, I ended up buying a Light Blue DSi and Silver DS Lite off craigslist for cheap and then resold them for profit. So all together I've owned one Phat, four Lites and two DSi systems. Its good to be a DS owner. :)

Your mother bought you two games and a DS for getting Detention?!? Bugger me, that's just....wow! Closest I ever got to that was in Grade 5 when I was playing with Popsicle sticks. I broke one in half, and tried to put it back together. I pushed to hard I guess and it slipped and next thing I know I have a rather visible massive spinter that's gone all the way up and under my Thumb nail! I went to the Nurse, she couldn't get it out. So they called my Dad and told me I would have to go to the Doctor. But in the car, Dear old Dad decided he was more than equipped with his Armyknife tweezersto take on the job. A lot of screaming, Cussing, and a bit of Blood later, and it was out. Then my Dad took me toToys' R' Usand bought me Harry Potter and The Philosopher's Stone for Gameboy Colour. What a game that turned out to be! Best RPG I had ever played at the time.
