Hello guys! I never play games on DS before. DS has both buttons and stick functions (sorry, I don't know what I should call it, or is it called pen?). Which one do u use to play games? e.g. FF III, FF IV, Chrono Trigger do u play these type of games with pen? Which games can we use both buttons and pen? Which games either buttons or pen?

Thx for yr replies!

Most of games use buttons + stylus (that is the name of the pen) combo, but there are games what are 100% played by stylus with buttons as mearly shortcuts (like legend of zelda), or the other way around (like mario cart) The mic is used in certain moments, for example, you have to blow the candle off, so you blow in mic and it goes off. Or somethimes there are situation what you need to catch someones attention or scare them, so you shout to the mic and it have effect in game! Thats a pretty neat fueture, but I only recall LOZ to use it, there are other thought ( to be honest, I got my DS on christmas, and the only game I have so far is LOZ :p ) So yeah, that pretty much it.

It all depends on the game. Some games will be fully stylus based and others won't require you to use it at all. Then there are times where you can choose what you want to use. The Microphone isn't a heavily used item in most of the DS games, often times you'll just need to blow or yell into it.

You will just have to read reviews of the games you might be interested in buying. Some games use both, some use only one or the other, some you can choose. That is detailed as anyone can say to the question.

thx! :) @Wiz007 I read review for games like Ace Attorney which use mic. But I don't get it what we will use mic for. What we have to do. Reviews don't explain something complicated like that. Same goes for Nintendog, what we use mic for? :(

Not many of the games use the mic to play. I can not tell you about the use of the mic in the games you mention sorry.

I have played FF III and it let you choose; you could either use only the stylus the entire game, or only buttons and D-pad, and a combination.

[QUOTE="Kleeyook"]thx! :) @Wiz007 I read review for games like Ace Attorney which use mic. But I don't get it what we will use mic for. What we have to do. Reviews don't explain something complicated like that. Same goes for Nintendog, what we use mic for? :(

For Ace Attorney you'd probably shout "Objection" into the mic to counter an arguement in court. In the Legend of Zelda you have to shout to a particular mechanic to show him how much you want to buy an item from him. He'll get you to shout louder if he's unimpressed. You also have to blow into the mic to clean sand and dust from maps and such. In Metroid Prime Hunters you can use the mic to talk to other players over Wifi, as long as they are on your friends list. All in all, the uses are ok. Nothing amazing, but ok. As for the stylus, in some games, like Animal Crossing and the Legend of Zelda, you point and hold the stylus in the direction you want your character to walk and they will walk in that direction until you let off the screen. If you tap objects or enemies they will move to and interact with them. You can also draw patterns or lines across the screen to make your characters perform special actions or attacks. You can draw on the screen in other ways too, whether you be making clothing patterns in Animal Crossing, kart logos in Mario Kart or simply silly pictures for pictochat. You can also drag your stylus around the screen in order to look about a 3D environment in an FPS, like in Metroid Prime Hunters and Call of Duty. It works in a similar way to a mouse and keyboard setup. Best of all, you can navigate game menus with the stylus, which wont sound all that great, but when playing games like Final Fantasy you'll realise how quicker and easier it is. The same applies to FPS games in which switching weapons and jumping will all be controlled through the touch screen. I hope that helps answer your question. If I sound patronising in anyway, I don't mean to be. I just assumed from your replies you want to know more about how touch controls are implemented in games. All in all I think the system works really well and games like the Legend of Zelda prove that. At the same time though, there are just as many games out there that don't require touch screen controls or abandon them altogether. It's all good.
