I was thinking the same thing. Everybody has a cell phone these days, right? Use speaker phone. I doubt that (when Nintendo does get around to allowing voice chat) they'll let you talk with people who aren't on your friend list anyway.
Although it seems that most people here on Gamespot trade their friend codes with lots of random people. I wouldn't want to give my cell phone number to anybody on Gamespot that I don't know too well. No offense. Maybe some of the people I've known for years on here, but not somebody like... say... Duckman. :P
