Cel Shaded? I've never really liked the fact that you could only see Samus's armor during cutscenes. I'd like a game that's like the Prime trilogy, but third person. Yes, I know it's like this with all FPS's, but Prime isn't really much of an FPS and Samus's appearance actually changes and most of the timeeverything is hidden from view but the arm cannon. I'd like to have at least Samus's upper body in view of the camera. What about you?

P.S. I was curious what this would look like cel shaded and my friend was kind enough to render me something. I know it's just an arm, but the rest hasn't been finished yet(even this isn't done). This is all he has for me so far. Here it is!

Not saying you're wrong, but that's what people said about it being in first person when MP was announced. Anyway, with the next one, I just want it to be different from what we've had in previous game. Whether it's side-scrolling or first person, but with a very unique concept that makes it feel different from the other games, or if, like you said, they make a third person game. I personally can see it working if it's done right.

And people say I can't tell the future

Hey Metroid, Prince Of Persia Is On The Phone - Jan 8th 2008 by yours truly

A snippet of the loveliness

"...You have one of the most interesting looking characters with movement that goes beyond the norm. Add in the fact that the series is built on exploration and it's almost laughable to think that the last three installments were from the perspective that you're able to see the least.

A third person adventure would help bring all the elements together. You could focus more on lavish worlds to explored and Metroid's...oops I mean Samus' interaction with it during exploration. Have a vast area that must be navigated with the physical prowess that Samus has. Have the player see the double jumps and the grappling moves and the spins and the dashes again. Don't hide all of them from the player in first person...."

I like it the way it is tbh. I like the style of how the games are now...just updated graphics for next time. You get that metallic look the way it is now (Samus' suit).

Metroid and cell shading... can't judge. I mean lots of people thought that Legend of Zelda with cell shading wouldn't work. Then again... we're talking about Metroid... I just don't think that this could be pulled off successfully....

Didjya look at the pic? The AH_cel shader keeps the properties of the object along with the hand drawn-esque shading. Looks pretty metallic to me.

Weird, every idea I have, whether or not I've seen anything like it,either has already been made, or will be made. That's why I don't make games anymore. I designed a Prince of Persia game and was prepared to begin production before I found a near identical game was being made for the mobile platform. A sad day that was...

I've thought about it before and would really like a Metroid game like this. I think it could work quite well.

I had the exact same idea. But not like a Zelda WW cel shade a darker celshading like PoP or Okami.

Wow, that would really be breaking the mold. I would probably love it just cause it is so different.

A third person Metroid is the next logical step. They did awsome in Platforming and First Person Adventure. Lets let another perspective that could really combine what we have seen in traditional Metroid and the Prime series.

I hope Retro has something to show us at E3.

you know at first i was for the cel-shadedness, because metroid has always had a 'funk' undertone, and the bright colours would help establish that feeling more, but in my mind it doesn't work.

i would love it if 3rd person meant retro could bring back some of the speed of the sidescrollers; items like the speed booster could really change the design. and maybe an over-the-shoulder camera following samus around.

Cel-shaded is good for varity, but after Punch-Out!! and other titles, I'd prefer not... Either way, Metroid had a good three games in the last, 5-6 years. And thetrilogy is coming soon. Overall I'd rather see what other stuff Nintendo has up theirsleeves, the Metroid Prime series was great and it added to the games well, but some returning or new IPs is where its at imo.

cel sgading isn't metroidy it has to keep the metroid feel and that would kill it.

Cel shading might work, but I would prefer a 2d game over a 3rd person game with prime's graphic style. I just feel 3rd person will turn metroid too much into a zelda game just with more combat and less platforming

My first thought is no, but after looking at the pic your friend rendered, I changed my mind. It looks good, and I could see Samus being made like that and looking awesome. And yeah, Metroid needs to go third person. Like Megaman Legends, but with Metroid game play. And bring back the speed boots and Shinesparking!

More like a 2D Metroid and no cell shaded graphics please. They are just not for every single franchise.

I think that would be pretty sick actually.

I don't really know how it would work though. I'm sure it can be done though.

You lost me at a 3rd person metroid... Optional camera FP or TP either way, I want to play it with the perspective I'm most comfortable in. Some people like the tangible feel of 3rd person and how you get to 'see yourself'; me on the other hand 'AM' that person and get annoyed that I have to watch myself and I keep blocking my own stinking view. Make the camera position a choice in the options menu and we both can be happy. As for Cel Shaded (yeah, I kept reading, so I guess you didn't lose me after all), no. I don't like the style in the least.

I love Metroid Prime the way it is. They are the only first person pesrspective games that I really like and their "realistic" style graphics have always impressed me.

MP doesn't really have realistic graphics. It seems like its riding on both sides of the fence with realistic and stylistic visuals mixed in. I do not think anyone is saying Metroid Prime is bad as a First Person Adventure. Just look at the trilogy. It is one of the most highly regarded series and is one of the best recreations from 2d to 3d we have seen in a series. There is just plenty of room for new exploration. A third person view could push the platforming element more and it can live on as a 3d game.

Very nice, your friend put some nice effort into that. As for it being cell shaded..who knows could be good.
