I am disappointed severely with the new Zelda. It is pretty bad when the game's creator has trouble playing it... however, new metroid looks awesome as does kirby donkey kong country. I am mad excited for that. oh, i'm gonna get hate for this from you younger folks, but as someone who has played hundreds of hours of goldeneye on n64, this remake is a let down. It looks like call of duty: goldeneye. TERRIBLE!!!

LISTEN! The game controls fine as stated by hands-on previews. IGN even said they had similar problems last year with wiis sports resort (or something) but in actuality it controls fine. I was dissapointed at first but heres the facts...

1) It DOES control fine, and the controls WILL enhance the play. The controls look fresh and to be a nice addition.

2) The art style is actually nice and better then going with TP again as that would get old. If you watch IGN's latest four vids of their hands on, the style lends itself well to the areas and the controls work fine.

3) It's Zelda, it won't dissapoint.

I didn't realize it was available for you to play it. Were you at e3? If not then how the heck would you know if it is a letdown.

I'm sure once released you'll be the first in line to say how awesome it is.

Still a long way from release. I say so far it looks good.

It's teh casual nao. Also, to OP, the on-stage demo had technical hick ups. You really think Nintendo is going to release a game that plays like that? You really think they'd waste all that development time getting the controls down? I mean they've said they built the gameplay foundation first then worked on other parts of the game.

I said I was gonna get some HATE for this... No I have not played it, but did watch all those wonderful vids. I'm sure the controls will get refined and work, but at the moment I'm saying yuck. Personally, I found TP on GC to be better. I DO NOT WANT TO SWING A REMOTE OVER AND OVER HOUR AFTER HOUR JUST TO USE MY SWORD. I like motion controls, but to a point. There needs to be a button option for such an attack. Sorry to have upset you fan boys. However, I have probably been playing Zelda longer than some of you. Despite what you all say you have played, I'm thinking many of you kids weren't there to play the original on NES, its sequel, and some more of the earlier stuff. Don't hate on an old timer, I was raised on some 8 bit goodness. Continue to hate now.

jamesm7786

I actually own and love EVERY zelda (scratch that, I don't own Spirit tracks yet) ever made, so I know very well. I agree my initial thought after the press conference was dissapointment, but watching the other vids and knowing the controls (that sound great) were just due to tech problems, I am confident it will be amazing. TP was the worst 3D zelda IMO.

This is a conversation to discuss it, right now that is my stance. I will try it, but I expect to be disappointed by it.

Although I am slightly skeptical about skyward sword, I can't fully agree with you. According to Gamespot's hand on, it seems pretty promising, despite the troubles at the press confrence.

However, I was super excited to see this year's lineup. it looks like we got what we were asking for. A new mario, zelda, kirby, DK, and even Kid Icarus. I was really swept off my feet at Donkey Kong Country Returnes. As soon as I heard that bassline, I couldn't contain my excitment.

Lol I never owned the ORIGINAL NES one, but I owned all the ones past that and played those aswell. I don't own the cd-i crap ripoff ones no. I have never not liked a zelda (SS will be no exception) but I have my favorites as well. OoT is the best 3D and A Link to The Past is the best 2D although there are other great ones. Worst 2D is Zelda II (IMO) as Zelda I blew it away and actually felt like zelda lol. I thought TP was the worst 3D one. It was to dark all the time and the towns were absolutely awful. I have always loved zelda and considered it my favorite series right behind diablo (diablo II is the best game ever made lol).

Not at all.

The visual style is what I wanted and I wanted it to be MotionPlus exclusive -- Along with that I like that it's more accessible, like holding B and selecting items from a menu on-screen.

James you are getting hate because you are coming off as a Jerk. I wish you would also support your staements. I wasn't worried about the controls because of two reasons. There really could have been interference in the room and in the distance between where the Wii is and he was standing. I think this is why MS and Sony kept things really close to avoid that. Two, the game will come out most likely holiday 2011. That is plenty of time to make everything work sharply. Unfortunately; for your motion control problems, there isn't much I can say about that. The Wii is a motion control console. It is what they were going for in the begining. This is what they wish Twilight Princess was. Also, the art direction is nice. I really like. Also, incase you want to call me a Kiddie, I have been in the game since before the Nes launched in the US.

Agreed. I wish TP had better motion controls too. I mean you still move your arm, but its not cool at all as it doesnt matter. This does, and the controls will rock. I did not like the style at first but after watching all of IGN's hands on vids it is actually very good. So glad it is not TP.

And as someone who played hundreds of hours of PD 64 and then moved on to PD HD on XBLA i can say that the gameplay DOES NOT hold up as well as it may seem. The updates that they are making to this goldeneye all appear for the better, despite what the nostalgist in you might say. Goldeneye 64 as an exact port would not be fun today. Seeing the new mechanics in this goldeneye reboot makes me wish they did the very same for the PD update because i always preferred PD to Goldeneye.

A jerk? because I am being honest about my feelings in regard to this new direction of art style? how would you like me to support my statements, I will gladly do such things. However, do not forget that some of my statements are clearly opinions that I am entitled to have. I will see what you require further writing for and be back in a short while to take care of that. If you really want a massive document for details, I will do that for you =) I am not a jerk, really. I am just old school and am missing the way games used to be before they got all mainstream with all these "hardcore gamer" kids running around acting like they are this and that when they have no idea about anything from the roots of gaming... kids having no respect is the problem. Perhaps I am getting to old at the age of 24 and wanting something that I'll never see. Sorry to have offended you so much. BTW, I totally like AC

So far I like the artstyle very much, but the background objects (notably the trees) are very blocky, but I'm sure that they'll improve them for release.

However, the gameplay looks fantastic in my eyes and has me very excited.

Sooo......kids not respecting old games led to this "bad" artstyle? *scratches head* I am sorry but I just don't get it lol. Go ahead and dislike the artstyle but I am happy they went with something other then TP's style. Did you not like WW?

Seriously, I don't know why people see colors (colours for the Europeans) and think "man, this game is kiddie and ugly" I think they wanted something bright like wind waker but did not want to go as far as cel-shading again. The colors reminded me of a link to the past. Why don't you like the graphics? What else don't you like that has made you feel so strong about the game? At this stage, all we have are opinions. I just didn't like you complaining about the hate when people were just trying to have a disscusion based on your opinions. Kids will always have no respect for what came before them. That is not just including games. But from the other end of the spectrem, you have to appreciate were we are going. From games made up of little boxes to the beauty of Heavy Rain. I loved pong and love heavy rain. You have to keep moving forward and not hang on the past. I played Zelda I & II back then. I still have the cartridges but I would not want to play them now. PS: I don't like you talking like your such an old gamer at 24. It just makes me feel old. Plus I can say I was gaming since before you were born.

Since you're such an "old seasoned mature gamer" then you should be happy that the game is closer to the original art style than ever.

At topic starter,

First, it was a demo and the wii remote was having trouble because of how far away the wii was.

Second, the graphics still need some work done on them.

And third, if waving around your arm for hours is going to be too hard for you, then don't play the game.

I think the visuals area downgrade from TP. I am not saying they should have used TP like graphics, but I am thinking they could have done better than this. It looks... artificial for what it is... I am sure someone else out there has had the same realization. I don't know exactly how to word it, but it just looks blah.

Several things.

1.) The other videos show the game working fine.

2.) Nintendo worked on gameplay first this time and graphics second. Miyamoto even said that the next cycle of development leading up to release is focused on building and refining graphics. Usually Nintendo does graphics first and then gameplay, not this time.

3.) The artstyle resembles a 3D ALttP feel which is beuatiful and what zelda IMO should be. TP's dark and gritty nature was rough and uninspired. This is the true Zelda image, not the wannabe mature look of TP.

People are assuming you need to move your whole arm to move his sword as well. I assume a flick is all Link really needs to swing his sword. And if you just HATE doing work like moving your arm for an hour, then don't play it.

And I think the graphics are okay. They could get a little more refined, but I think they still have a lot of work to do.

That felt like some sort of therapy session... lol... It wasn't the colors that got me, it was just the overall look... I will try it out, that should go with out saying, I am a fan and will play it to get my own impression... I see some people are all pissy over this thread, but thats cool. I am glad to see some fans reading to stick up for their console! I am a gamer just like the rest of you... Sometimes it can be hard to want to move forward when all you see is a bunch of rehashed sequels and clones flooding the market... but yeah, at bare minimum I will be getting other m, kirby epic yarn, and dkc returns. I am not all upset with nintendo. as for zelda, regardless of this game, we will have another one in a short period of time after it, so life will go on. everyone can relax now, i am not the zelda anti-christ... i love zelda just as much as the rest of you...

The graphics looked better than TP in my opinion. Despite the technical difficulties I like the way you choose an item now. I liked the beetle thing and the whip. I like the way you can use bombs differently. TP felt conservative and more "been there done that." This Zelda seems to be changing things up a little which is good, because it was about time for new gadgets or items. There are no animal gimmicks in this game it seems. Link can be link without the marginally different and unecessary wolf parts.

Goldeneye is being made or at least published by activision, of course it will resemble some things from their hit shooter franchise. The game looked cool. I think it's weird that the new james bond is playing a part that was originally someone else's but what the hey. It is cool that it is a new game and not a remake. If you want to play the original then find an N64 and a copy of the game. This has been Nintendo's best lineup since Wii has been released and you are complaining. 2010 resembles that of 2007 only better. This year Nintendo focused on veteran gamers that have owned previous systems in the past. Metroid, Kirby, Donkey Kong, and Zelda, not bad at all. I wish there were F-zero too but oh well, maybe next year. To top it off there is Goldeneye, and NBA Jam as well, and let us not forget about Sin and Punishment later this month/ You couldn't ask for a better lineup. This is one of the best in years not only for Nintendo but for any company ever. The number of games that look more than decent is pretty great.

You can be disappointed all you want and miss out. Anyone who would complain about the lineup this year can never be satisfied.

How is it a step back? :?

I think the visuals area downgrade from TP. I am not saying they should have used TP like graphics, but I am thinking they could have done better than this. It looks... artificial for what it is... I am sure someone else out there has had the same realization. I don't know exactly how to word it, but it just looks blah.

A downgrade? Twilight Princess had stiffest, dullest graphics of any in the series. I'd say this is an upgrade. For this who say the graphics look too last-gen, this is the wii we're talking about.

SkyeHawc

I can handle a flick, but I think having to flail like a monkey in heat is too much... do not think I am against motion controls, I do own a Wii and it is my favorite console.

to me the graphics are def. not last gen and do look good for what they are, I just do not care for the style as of it... time may change things and we all have a wait before we get to tear into it...

I'm getting tired of repeating myself, read my other posts. There you will clearly see I am excited for a lot of nintendo's line up. DKC Returns, Kirby, Other M... just to name a few make me more giddy than a school girl. I have goldeneye on n64, why would I not. did you play goldeneye on n64? this new game is seriously looking like CoD: GoldenEye... I am sure others agree... but it has been discussed on other boards, that this game will probably be a let down. They are marketing it as a remake for the current gen, it won't be the same experience many ppl had before... LET ME CLEAR SOMETHING UP RIGHT NOW: NEW ZELDA IS 9234902390 TIMES LESS DISAPPOINTING THAN NEW GOLDENEYE, IMO

How would they possibly do the game without motion controls?

Parrying, slicing Deku Babas, unlocking Eye-doors, killing scorpions and I'm sure plenty more all relies on the degree of freedom that motion control provides over buttons. The game is just not possible to play with a standard controller.

Continue to hate now.

jamesm7786

Well, if you think it'll be a step back, then don't get it. While I'm playing the heck out of it, I can sleep easy at night knowing that you haven't played it :)

people just read parts of messages and have no idea what they are talking about. i never said do away with all the motion controls. that would be dumb. this is the freakin' wii that we are talkin about. i just think that flailing is excessive and want to see that limited. does that make sense?

I understand what you are saying, but to be fair it is not "failing", it is precise aiming and swinging. And if you did any less then it would be waggleing (gimmicky like TP) or non existant.

, but as someone who has played hundreds of hours of goldeneye on n64, this remake is a let down. It looks like call of duty: goldeneye. TERRIBLE!!!

jamesm7786

And as someone who played hundreds of hours of PD 64 and then moved on to PD HD on XBLA i can say that the gameplay DOES NOT hold up as well as it may seem. The updates that they are making to this goldeneye all appear for the better, despite what the nostalgist in you might say. Goldeneye 64 as an exact port would not be fun today. Seeing the new mechanics in this goldeneye reboot makes me wish they did the very same for the PD update because i always preferred PD to Goldeneye.

You kinda agree, thats kinda my point. This is not gonna be pretty.

No, i disagree... I don't KINDA agree at all. I am all for the changes they are making . You want something identical to what they did with PD on the 360. My entire post was about how that game play just isn't what it was back on the n64 today. These changes for goldeneye are welcomed in my eyes.

I don't want what they did to PD on 360. not at all. I don't want a remake of this game, it will ruin my memories of it. this is just a goldeneye for this generation that will not be half as awesome as the original.

I've been playing video games since 1990 and have played every console Zelda game released by Nintendo on the console on which it was released.

And I do want to swing a remote over and over hour after hour to use my sword. :P

I do have to say that i am put of by this one. i am i HUGE zelda fan which is why i had such hugeeee hopes for this i brought every magazine out just to find out about the game. the picture they showed us made Link so much more mature. I dont like the graphics i have just played spirt tracks and phantom hour glass and was hoping for more tp graphics XD Anyone know if Zelda is in this one?

ButNintendo hasnt made a bad game yet and when twilight princess came out i hated the idea of link being a wolf but now i love it! Still i am looking forward to this game!!!!
