I planned on getting a DS Lite today. I called about 8 major stores and every single one was sold out! Even of pink ones(although I wouldnt get one anyway)! Has it always been like this? TBH I think it was easier getting my Wii....
Demand seems to consistently outstrip supply for the DS Lite. If you really want one, I suggest you use a tracker: http://www.nowinstock.net/dslite/index.php

If anything the problem usually is in the other direction, where the tracker says something is in stock somewhere when it no longer is (having sold out in a matter of hours or even minutes).
